interesting stuff I wrote a letter last April to both my Senators (Coleman and Dayton) regarding Fiscal Discipline and why doesnt Congress use that notion very much anymore and they both sent me standard pre-written 'why thank you for writing, here is my record' responses.

Congrats Sox, and Sox fans.

from a friend of mine --- thank god for WEEI and the whiner line. "Nomar now has more saves this year than Keith Foulke."

While the feat is rare, it's not unprecedented. A's fan Jay Didion caught three home runs in Game 3 of the 1988 American League Championship Series against the Red Sox from Oakland's Mark McGwire, Carney Lansford and Dave Henderson. WHOA

How the Twins can pay for quality hitters http://www.startribune.com/stories/509/5647349.html 5 free agents who could help Twins : Here are five free-agent offensive players who could help the Twins. The free-agent market is considered thin, but it could get a boost from players who aren't tendered contracts during the offseason. La Velle E. Neal III • Mike Piazza, C (Mets): If he switches leagues and is a DH-1B-emergency catcher, could the Twins get a couple of big seasons out of him? • Brian Giles, OF (Padres): Career on-base percentage is .413. He might prefer to stay in his native California, and in the National League. • Paul Konerko, 1B (White Sox): Can Chicago re-sign him? Team payroll could shoot past $80 million next season. • Bill Mueller, 3B (Red Sox): Subject of Twins trade rumors in July. A polished hitter and good clubhouse guy. • Kevin Millar, 1B (Red Sox): Twins tried to trade for him, too, feeling his quality at-bats could help the team. http://www.startribune.com/stories/509/5647380.html As for Hunter/Morneau... it sounded like Hunter was trying to fire up the troops, Morneau didnt want any of it and things got heated, and HUnter threw a punch. more here: http://www.startribune.com/stories/509/5647341.html

Santana has one more start on Sunday He didnt do so good last start. I mean he went 7 inning gave up one run, but only had like 3 strikeout over the Royals. Good start, but I feel he needed a real overhwleming 12-15 k performance to really help his cause -
can both teams explode and the Jays automatically win the division? Ill go with.. The BoSox

he does a decent job on espn college games too --- The paychecks from ESPN arrived at Chris Spielman's home in Columbus, Ohio, throughout the college football season last fall. Each was placed in the same pile, uncashed and collecting dust. Spielman, a former NFL linebacker, wasn't about to take money for work he wasn't doing even if he had a very good reason for staying away from the sport he loves. For the third time since 1998, Spielman's wife and high school sweetheart, Stefanie, was battling cancer and he wanted to be with her and the couple's four children. "[ESPN] is a good company and they are loyal," he said. "But I sent them all the checks back. I appreciated what they were trying to do but I didn't earn that money." Spielman, an ESPN college football analyst from 2001 through 2003, is once again earning his money this season. Stefanie's cancer is in remission and her husband is back in the broadcast booth. He will work his fourth game of the season at 11 a.m. Saturday when he joins Mark Jones on the Gophers-Purdue telecast on ESPN. "I think it's great," Spielman said of being back. "I tell everybody that this is the best job in the world." But Spielman also has a very good perspective on where football fits into his life. When Stefanie was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998, he decided to take a year off from the Buffalo Bills to take care of his wife and kids. He retired the following season after sustaining a neck injury in the preseason. In the spring of 2001, Stefanie, having completed chemotherapy and radiation, found out her cancer had reoccurred. "I think each individual at some point is going to face trials and tribulations," he said. "But because I have perspective on life it doesn't mean I'm not going to enjoy football." The importance of football in many peoples' lives was driven home to Spielman this week when he spent two hours visiting with wounded Marines who had just returned from Iraq. "I asked the Marines when they were defending our country if they think about sports," Spielman said. "They said they love sports. When you hear guys say sports doesn't provide an escape, well that's not according to guys on the front lines. [Football] isn't life or death but it's part of our society, and I don't think we should apologize for it." http://www.startribune.com/stories/503/5630324.html

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) How old is the Metrodome? I went to the Twins site, and it looks like they took out all mentionings of the Metrodome in place of the new stadium. it opened in 1981 what I have been saying to raise money for stadiums is do it a bit creativly. Like have a 'FanZone' where fans can purchase bricks to be built on a wall or a sidewalk. All the money go towards the stadium. Minnesotans love thier scratch off lottery tickets, so make a special lottery ticket so that the proceeds go towards a Stadium fund instead of the Minensota General Fund like it does. That way people who want a stadium will pay for it, and those that dont want to be taxed dont have to pay for it. -
im surprised that all the missing money in Iraq isnt a bigger story. Billions and Billions of dollars are gone whether stolen or skimmed away by middle men While I disagree about the whole going to war thing, I do expect that my tax money is being spent properly and is not in some Swiss Bank Account of some dude

Minnesota has got quite a few ethonol plants too. They are also making SoyDeisel. woot. Sundance Channel runs one hour of Al Frankens show. Its on a premium cable package in my area, but I catch it once in a while and get a few chuckles. I think the whole 'liberal media' thing is just out of control. Something that Conservatives/Republicans bring out when things dont go their way. Rush Limbaugh rules AM Radio. Certainly not liberal. FOX News (some would call it Faux News) rules the cable news. They certainly are not liberal. Since 1980, Republicans have been in control of the White House except for the 8 Clinton Years. If problems arise, you blame the President. If the Conservative/Republicans dont want to get critcized, dont run for office is the way I simply look at it.

yeah. thats what I keep telling myself. I heard somewhere one needs about 1500 major league at bats to really get a feel of what kind of hitter one is. Mauer will be fine. He just needs some protection in the lineup. He is batting round .300. Kubel is playing in the Arizona Fall League. Hopefully he wont rip up his knee again. And the pitching will be there. It just sucks the way the season has gone. like tonight 4 errors. Overthrown cutoff men. AA level ball Its a flash back to the late 90s..but with better pitching

Vikings new stadium plan
Benchwarmerjim replied to Benchwarmerjim's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
from what I understand on that, Legislative leaders want a special session this year for that. There is also a Gophers football stadium that needs to be addressed. The Gophers have done a lot of fundraising and just need the ok from the state, and also a few dollars for road improvements and such There is also some hospitals and such that will be addressed in the speical session (it didnt get done before because of budget problems and the DFL and the Republicans hate each other..but thats for a different thread and a different time) Gov Pawlenty hasnt given the ok for the special session yet. I think the Vikes stadium will be addressed next year -
Just announced today Vikings fans — and people who couldn't care less about football — will have to cough up a lot of green to see the guys in purple and gold play in a new stadium. The Vikings laid out a financing plan Tuesday that would require taxpayers to kick in nearly $400 million toward a $675 million, retractable-roof stadium with about 68,000 seats in this growing suburb north of Minneapolis. The public would also pay another $115 million to improve the roads and highways around the stadium complex, which would also include retail space. If state lawmakers accept the plan, people who shop in Anoka County would pay an additional 75 cents for every $100 they spend on taxable goods. Tax revenue earned at the stadium would go to pay off debt instead flowing into the state treasury, a strategy known as Tax Increment Financing. And road projects around the site would leap ahead of others on the state's to-do list. Proposed stadiumKke ArchitectsNew Vikings owner Zygi Wilf has pledged $280 million, although some could be drawn from an NFL stadium fund. At a news conference Tuesday, Wilf said the Vikings were an important part of the fabric of the state. "Yes, the Vikings are privately owned, but as I have found, it's something that we have to protect,'' he said. "It's part of our fiber.'' If everything goes the Vikings way, the new stadium would open in 2009 or 2010, he said. Although the team has claimed that it needs a new stadium to improve revenues, Wilf said Tuesday that he didn't know how much additional money the team would earn from the proposed stadium. Features of the stadium project would include expanded concourses -- 48 feet compared with 24 feet at the Metrodome -- 8,000 club seats, 150 suites and 52 concession stands (Metrodome, 33 stands). Parking would be at the stadium, and the lot would include room for tailgating. The Vikings headquarters and practice facilities would relocate to Blaine from Eden Prairie. The site also would include a Vikings museum, Hall of Fame, a retail merchandise/gift shop and a themed restaurant more: http://www.startribune.com/stories/510/5625068.html

When he signed his last deal, he pretty much said after that he is done. Hes been a mainstay in the rotation since the dark days of the mid 90s. *shudders at the thought of Scott Klingingbeck on the mound*
