Why all of the bunting?
Hard to believe it's 2016 and people are still defending bunts. There are very limited times the bunt is useful. Those times are in the 7th, 8th and 9th when you are tied or behind by one run and you have a mediocre hitter at the plate. That RV is bunting in the 1st inning with the guy he puts 3rd is absolute insanity.

Rick Hahn
QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) I wonder why so many of the players the Sox have acquired have underperformed once they got here. Even the great guys like Abreu are no longer pulling their weight. When has Todd Frazier ever been a .198 hitter? Even Eaton just totally stunk it up at the beginning of last season. Same with Melky for most of last season. This strikes me as the MAJOR problem for the White Sox. On paper, the Hahn moves have not been so bad if the players he acquired performed to projections. I mean, when has David Robertson ever blown a 7-1 lead in the 9th inning? It's just bizarre what has happened. The topper, of course, is the James Shields acquisition. The guy has been a horse for years. 200 innings could be counted on. Not a top notch guy any longer, but you would think he'd be a plus as a 4th or 5th starter. Yet he's looking like one of the most spectacular flame outs in major league history. BIZARRE. the MLB coaching staff is bottom 1/3 in the league that's why. Probably bottom 5.

Robin Ventura should definitely, certainly be fired today
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 04:16 PM) it's positive to hear that Hahn has such self-awareness. It's frustrating imo. Ventura isn't part of the solution. That means he is part of the problem. Hahn's moves have generally been mediocre at best but RV's tactical decisions actively hurt the team on a weakly basis. His leadership, while less tangible, appears to be awful as well given how many players under-perform on a yearly basis under him.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 05:55 PM) Just waking up from a nap to see this. Way to have your managers back even if you're close to firing him. This doesn't shock me however because this organization is in shambles and ran like s***. It's no wonder this team doesn't win. They don't know how to from top to bottom. I expect another s***ty four more years unless they catch lightning in a bottle like 2005 or 2008. right, seems like the pressure is getting to everyone. s***ty answer by a guy that should know better and know exactly what he's going to say about RV the moment he walks into the interview room.

Robin Ventura should definitely, certainly be fired today
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) They won't even give him a vote of confidence. For an organization that doesn't like to telegraph its moves, that is a jarring non-statement. Hahn has to be smarter than this. You either give him the dreaded vote of confidence or you spout a platitude like "we evaluate everyone on a daily basis blah blah blah".

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 06:02 PM) Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane 2m2 minutes ago Rick Hahn gave same line on Robin Ventura: "I don’t think it’s in anybody’s best interest to comment on the status of anybody in uniform." what a f***ing clown show.

SouthsideSox Takedown of White Sox Organization
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) I'm guessing he has the wrong link: http://www.southsidesox.com/2016/6/20/1197...-jerry-its-over Larry is great. He basically said everything perfectly and didn't put the blame on anyone but where it should go -- at the ENTIRE ORG. There needs to be sweeping changes. Yea RV sucks tactically, yea Hahn has made some poor additions, yea the scouting staff sucks -- THEY ALL SUCK. I also like that he pointed out how much less success Cooper is having finding "his guys". Cooper is far from blameless and the fact that nobody even really considers him part of the problem is another problem. The entire staff needs brooming.

White Sox will not win until their players produce
When almost every single player under performs projections, both fan and saber, for years, it's time to question the man leading those players. This is a pattern and the pattern is that under RV the team underachieves relative to the talent on the roster. Most people on this forum projected the team to be around 82-88 wins. If they win less than that there is NOT A CHANCE IN HELL YOU BRING BACK RV YET AGAIN. The White Sox are basically Einstein's definition of insanity. They do the same thing over and over and over that doesn't work. INB4 Dick Allen's "but what if they fire RV and it turns out he was really a HOF manager".

6/15/2016 Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 08:12 PM) Oh this season was over a couple weeks ago. I'm only watching to see Anderson. This team is awful, pathetic, can't win divisional games with the exception of Minnesota, the manager is a f***ing moron on a daily basis and the organization could give a s*** about an actual direction to choose. QFT

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 06:52 PM) Who was it? I wonder how sarcastic that last question/comment was, how it came across? At least Ventura last night showed a willingness to change back to Shuck, which FINALLY happened again today. He pretty much had no choice, as there were no credible arguments left for leaving him out there in the field when it was causing so many problems for the pitchers, who are already struggling as is without giving additional opportunities to the opposition. he knows the end is near. dead man walking.

White Sox vs Tigers 7:10PM CSN
wait did eaton bunt down 4 runs? this team is so f***ing stupid. I've never seen a team that likes to play for one run so much. Guess what, play for one run, you get one run more often than not.

Renteria on 10-9 walk off win over Tigers (4 min video)
QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) I could agree with that... but "I can tell you guys have never managed before or played baseball" Not sure that would qualify. I played a lot of ball, little league, to American Legion, to showcases to eventually a really mediocre DIII career at my 1st choice academic school. I can certainly say that from my experience a good manager mattered. The players know when the manager isn't putting them in the best position to win. The players know when a manager is disorganized, or in contrast, organized. While I certainly never set foot in a pro clubhouse I did interact different levels of instructors and personnel on our college spring training trips. The level of organization between our s*** DIII outfit verse say a Florida juco draft factory was night and day. While such a difference is no doubt less pronounced at the MLB level I still believe that there is a difference between say John Maddon and RV. From practice drills on down to running team meetings.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 07:42 PM) Trying to showcase Avi's outfield skills isn't going so hot lol not saying it's you by any means but WTF is this "showcasing" idea? We all know he sucks out there. How about just trying to win games, and that would mean not ever playing in RF except in an emergency. That they were one injury to an old ass, often injured player and boom he's right back out there 3-5 times a week is a huge failure to plan.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 07:34 PM) Yeah, let's stop discrediting Robin for the things he does right. on a regular basis, the lineup is not one of them. Shuck 5th and then PH for is classic RV.

White Sox vs Tigers 7:10PM CSN
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 07:29 PM) I wouldn't. Robin makes the lineups. probably, but I can also see a pretty strong "get this kid the most PA possible" directive at the off day afternoon meeting.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 07:27 PM) I give Ventura a lot of crap & rightful so but I really like Anderson leading off & Eaton in the 2 hole. Imagine when Jackson comes back & hits 9th. Good blend, especially if/when they add that middle of the order power bat. I'd bet the directive came from above him to bat TA leadoff.

Avisail Garcia
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) Maybe it is , maybe it isn't. Some guys do better with guys on base. Concentration levels increase or whatever. Besides I am not arguing weather it's repeatable or not just that it's important. Of course stat geeks will argue that driving in runs is based solely on situation blah blah blah. But regardless it's still important to drive in runs . Can't win without scoring . The point is Avi has been valuable this year in that respect. He is making the most of the situations to score runs , better than anyone on the team. Talking about weather it's repeatable just clouds that fact. People talked about how Cespedes was inconsistent but his hitting with RISP was always good. There's something to be said for rising to the occasion. Weather or not you believe in clutch is up to you. It was easy to pick Cespedes as the best of the Big 3 FA OF's in the off season . You might think it was luck but not in my eyes. it's been proven, with stats, that it's not repeatable. Your attitude is like sticking your fingers in your ear and saying "2+2 isn't 4 it's 5". There is not a single data point that says "clutch" exists. Notice that I'm not claiming that "choking" doesn't exist. Just that no player has ever, ever been proven to be able to raise his game in any sort of statistically significant (I'm using this term in a very precise way in a statistical test application) way. Not a single one.

Renteria on 10-9 walk off win over Tigers (4 min video)
QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 07:44 PM) Of course people with "inside information" have a scope others don't. But if every time people are going to disagree.. someone is going to play the "you haven't done it before card," then pretty much that eliminates most opinions as invalid in most walks of life. It's like... impossible to have direct experience of everything we have opinions on. The idea that some magic happens when you step into the dugout as a 25 man roster player and this same magic then qualifies you to work "inside the lines" as they say after your career is bats*** insane. Quite frankly I think if you were to create a suitably qualified candidate from thin air one of the last things I'd look for is pro playing experience. In fact, the Sox seemed to singularly focus on RV as a "players' manager" because he played the game at a high level for a long time and would thus know how to create an environment where others could excel. That logic is terribly, horribly, flawed. Sure, having played as a pro can be an asset for a manager. But it's hardly the most important qualification to hire on and IMO is probably one of the least important.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 04:55 PM) Oh that's awesome Ventura, and you are basing this on what exactly? Same "thought process" that left him no other choice but to leave in Carroll against the Rangers -- just pray and wing it!

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 05:53 PM) I can't hate any manager who won a world series for the Sox. I can't hate ozzie but he's dead to me after the way he quit on the team. I thank him for his contributions as a player and manager but he can f*** off.

crazy as it sounds, for early june, this was a big win. Keeps the momentum going (this team is mentally fragile it seems so that should help) and helps bury KC some more.
