Yep not a lot of room in the alleys and pretty large foul ground by modern park standards. The cell is playing only slightly above avg for runs the last few years I believe .
-
Uh you have to keep the pick on the 25 man active roster I believe at least 110 or so days. You can't just draft a guy and stash him in aa or something he will get offered back. That rules out pretty much anyone other than a near mlb ready reliever. Maybe a utility guy. Deshields will probably be long gone by 8.

White Sox and Volquez have mutual interest
chitownsportsfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Noesi has value but he would have more in late Jan. -
Sanchez is a stud defender at 2b fromwhat we saw in his cameo and minor league reports. There's worse things than a 1 war defense first 2b especially given the teams revamped pitching staff.
-
Of course they are. All the doomsayers penciling viciedo in for lf can now relax a bit. Hahn would not have tendered him without knowing his value was above negative around the league.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 10:14 PM) I think you're way off-base here. Someone will take Viciedo off our hands for an insignificant prospect, because right-handed power is at a huge premium right now. I get he's been horrible for us the past couple years, but he's still young and has some very attractive tools. Right or wrong, it's really not that crazy to think another organization believes there is some chance they can fix him and turn him into an above-average hitter. In the meantime, he serves as OF depth until we acquire something better. Hahn isn't stupid, he wouldn't tender Viciedo a contact if he was unmovable. He's obviously talked to other GMs and determined there is some market for his services. I'm fairly certain that Hahn doesn't want Dayan as a starting OF unless all other plans fail to work out. IMO, the odds of Viciedo being on Opening Day roster are incredibly low. actually no, it's not. It's left handed power that is at a premium. From that perspective, LaRoche is worth more than perhaps he got. Viciedo is a dime a dozen .5 WAR player that could turn into a 2 WAR player and is getting paid like a 1 WAR player. The sort of guy that you have a hard time trading on OOTP 15. At best, someone will give PTBNL or will claim him on waivers in May. The Sox made the right bet IMO, but if he's the starting LF in April something went wrong. A platoon or a 5th OF role (assuming they have the IF versatility) would be OK, but not ideal either.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 12:45 AM) When we were interested in him a few seasons ago, wasn't he quoted saying he hates pitching at our ballpark? He doesn't like Chicago, it's well known. He specifically had a beef with Q back in the day. I'm sure it's nothing he couldn't be talked into but it doesn't help imo. That said, Sox don't have the pieces to get this done and they aren't close enough to contending to bother anyways. They'd be much better signing Melky (or better, Headley) and then seeing what they can do to improve the pitching without breaking the farm system again.

Snodgress and Carroll "not offered contracts"
chitownsportsfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) As I mentioned in a different thread, there are much worse ways to spend a bench spot and $4 million than on Dayan Viciedo. No contending team wants to carry a a 90 wRC+ DH/LF type as their 4th OF. You need someone that can play center, ideally can play it well so can be used as a defensive replacement in LF/RF as well. I disagree completely, there are myriad better ways to use both the money and the roster spot. edit: ha, me and Rowand on that same ish. -
Snodgress and Carroll "not offered contracts"
chitownsportsfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If they can't find a trade partner for Viciedo IMO he's a non-tender candidate. If there is zero market for him the last thing want is to be stuck with his dead weight. That said, that's probably unlikely. Someone will take a flyer on him in late Winter IMO. Won't be the Sox though. -
Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
chitownsportsfan replied to Rooftop Shots's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think where there is smoke there is fire, especially with the Sox and A's history of trades. That said, the smoke could be long gone at this point. Things will heat up here and if he's not dealt to Chicago by Xmas yea it's over. -

Look at Hahn's history on contracts and in general financial dealings -- he's not going to forget that OH s*** Shark is a FA right after he shakes Beane's hand. Thing is, maybe Shark is looking for a deal to come and stay in Chicago -- he's spoke favorably about returning and I don't know if the Cubs are even in the picture --he didn't exactly leave on great terms. So, he could, in effect, force Beane's hand and say "I only want to go to _____" You'd hope the Sox were one of a few teams at that point. That Dan Hayes interview is garbage. No s*** sherlock. I also highly doubt that Tim Anderson's name has "been thrown out there". From what I'm reading, TA is a highly valued prospect, not just to the Sox -- he's borderline top 30 in all MLB at this point. If he does go, it will only be in a major deal bringing back a lot of MLB ready talent. That's "throwing him out there" but only in the right deal -- and what team wants to give up what it will take? 1 year of Shark for TA doesn't even move the needle. Bring over Moss and a resigned Shark and hey maybe. -

huh, I thought cespedes was a FA in '17. Obviously the entire premise is flawed then. -

Cespedes for anyone other than Rodon and Anderson is a no brainer imo. Shark is different because of his contract but if you can get him to agree to an extension as part of the trade then ditto. The team is nicely setup to win but they need at least 2 more good pieces. Shark and/or Cespedes would go a long way towards getting back to 88 win territory. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 06:44 PM) toward the end, I believe he just got tired. there is nothing wrong at that. he needs to build up his endurance. also I was trying to get acquainted with the advance stats, I saw he was horrible against lefties. I def think he got tired. It happens to a lot of guys. Conor is a nice option at 3B against RHP and he's cheap so unless he goes out in a trade that brings back more than a 2 WAR short stop or 3B that's also cheap doesn't make any sense to move him and or not play him. 3B is like 6th or 7th on the list of needs imo. I'd rank pen, starting, lf, 2b, and c ahead. Conor needs a platoon partner that man is Semian.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 07:07 PM) Because he might pass through, where another team won't take him. That way they can keep him, and outright assign him to Charlotte. I'm surprised this wasn't Wilkins. If they simply DFA could another team have signed at any point, even after the Sox assigned him?
-
Good guy, good story. Got his service time for the pension so pretty much whatever else he can squeeze out of his arm is gravy. Certainly a testament to the power of hard work and perseverance. That said, pretty much a dime a dozen long man with zero upside. Sox might be looking to find someone with a little more upside for the last pitcher on the roster in '15.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 05:59 PM) The White Sox don't play in the media the way other teams do. partly because they hardly ever do biz with boras (rosenthal).

Yoenis Cespedes traded to Detroit for Rick Porcello
chitownsportsfan replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in The Diamond Club
Viciedo is the homeless man's version of Cespedes. Cespedes has value, he's proven an average starter. Viciedo has proven replacement level. and yea, their skills are similar. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 06:28 PM) I think they will add one more SP. Maybe an upside arm for Tank Viciedo isn't even worth an A ball arm at this point. He'll probably be non-tendered or traded for someone else's 40 man roster junk.
-
QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 05:58 PM) Viciedo is one of the worst players in the game. There is so much evidence that documents his sorriness that it is beyond dispute. If he is in line for significant playing time next summer, RH will have failed his offseason report card. In the rotation, Sale, Q, and Noesi (at #4) are givens. Rodon will likely start the year in the minors. That means we have two slots open. Danks should be either dumped or in the pen. You seem fairly level headed, so level head yourself on the La Roche move. The Sox have quite a bit of money to spend and this move probably signals they are ready to spend more of it. If they don't make any other moves to improve the MLB talent after this then yea, it's a real head scratcher. But if La Roche is mashing RHP in July and the Sox suck anyways he'll be good trade bait.
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 03:09 PM) We'll said! Also, DH/ #4 hitter behind Abreu was a pretty big hole that needed to be filled and has been taken care of. LaRoche didn't cost a compensation pick to sign, he's a player the Sox didn't have to trade prospects for and overall should give the Sox a rather nice upgrade over Dunn for a cheaper price without a long term commitment. This is a very good fit for the Sox. The nice thing about the LaRoche move (granted I'm mixed on it overall) is that it only cost money. No compensation pick, no trade, just cash and a roster spot (of which the Sox have plenty of fat to cut from). Bigger moves that might immediately improve the team more at the MLB will cost probably quite a bit more cash and/or MiLB talent. It's totally the time to just step back and enjoy the ride if you're a Sox fan. This is going to be a busy offseason, judging the LaRoche move in itself is rather uninspiring, but if it's part of a series of moves, then it could turn out well.

that is true hi8is lol when i read that. hopefully laroche won't be historically bad. this signing could go a lot of ways. it probably won't go that way.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 09:24 PM) He's going to be our DH, so who gives a s*** about his fWAR? If he can maintain his wRC+ against RHP then he'll be plenty valuable. Let's hope he can because as a regular, that's the only above average skill he has.
-
that tweet is hilarious. Yea, it's an impressive list...of guys...that met an arbitrary cutoff. Players credited with more than 3 fWAR over the past two seasons: not Adam LaRoche.

QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) sorry missed your post before I entered mine. Didn't mean to be Pete and Re Pete It's a very interesting talking point no doubt. I mean, usually you don't see a "light go on" at age 34 in MLB. That ratio is downright Frank Thomas esque. If he really has learned to command the strike zone that well maybe he can reproduce his 2014 with the bat for Chicago. Moving to the AL doesn't help though.
