  1. Suarez is gone. The just put all their eggs in a basket of a guy that missed all of 14 with a serious leg injury and has little mlb track record before that. If Iglesias isn't 15 runs above average at SS he is a .5 war to 1.5 war guy at best. His entire value is in defense and I don't care if he is Ozzie smith if he is hitting 180/220/250 in June he isn't a good over all starting SS . you gotta hit some.
  2. I can't f***ing wait to get a real keyboard here tonight so I can argue better. Typing on tablet sucks I am 4 days out of biletrral patellar tendon repair and just now starting to get life back in order. Noesis splits as a Sox are very comparable to Simons. And Simon has no ability to eat innings asmamreliever turned starter that collapsed in august and sept.
  3. And his career FIP is 3.58. Didn't know WHIP was more important. Thanks Greensox. Goodness enjoy the ride guys Hahn just turned Rienz o into a guy that by the numbers probably would have been the Soxs 2nd best pen arm last year. Missing bats is a great equalizer.
  4. Straight from Dave d the tigers are out on scherzer. Gotta love when your rivals have days like this. Bless you boys is an angry mean place right now. Simon is trash come on I'd rather have Hector he is 8 years younger with a similiar 2014!
  5. The red Sox have 5 fourth starters in their rotation. Strong team? Eh. IMO they are around an 80 win bunch. White Sox are currently around 83 IMO. Both team need moremgood moves plus some development luck to make playoffs IMO. The al easdt is bad tho, might be worst in AL.
  6. No pick is a good sign. No room for a project on this years squad.
  7. The tigers are worse now than 24 hours ago. Wow. Thanks guys. Have fun in 3rd place.
  8. Eh how often does the #10-20 ranked prospect on a bottom 1\3 farm (ravelo) do s***? Bassitt considers himself a reliever and that limits his upside. So does his lack of pure stuff as a starter. Semien whatever he is obs a guy that Sox could regret trading. But the Phegley stuff? Haven't read a single post on AN with a clue that he is a nothing. His upside is .5 war backup catcher. He has a better chance of being a car salesman at 30 than in MLB. The Sox are thin at catcher and considered him a throw in. Says a lot.
  9. Athletics nation is hilarious. In their opinion semien is an above avg ss for the next decade, phegley is a promising "mlb ready catcher" (lol ok he is literally the definition of aaaa) and bassitt and ravelo will contribute with long mlb careers. Get real guys it was a very avg haul with Semien keying the deal. Them talking about phegley is especially lol worthy. Come on man.
  10. The poster above me didn't know it...
  11. Yep not a lot of room in the alleys and pretty large foul ground by modern park standards. The cell is playing only slightly above avg for runs the last few years I believe .
  12. Uh you have to keep the pick on the 25 man active roster I believe at least 110 or so days. You can't just draft a guy and stash him in aa or something he will get offered back. That rules out pretty much anyone other than a near mlb ready reliever. Maybe a utility guy. Deshields will probably be long gone by 8.
  13. Noesi has value but he would have more in late Jan.
  14. Sanchez is a stud defender at 2b fromwhat we saw in his cameo and minor league reports. There's worse things than a 1 war defense first 2b especially given the teams revamped pitching staff.
  15. Of course they are. All the doomsayers penciling viciedo in for lf can now relax a bit. Hahn would not have tendered him without knowing his value was above negative around the league.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 10:14 PM) I think you're way off-base here. Someone will take Viciedo off our hands for an insignificant prospect, because right-handed power is at a huge premium right now. I get he's been horrible for us the past couple years, but he's still young and has some very attractive tools. Right or wrong, it's really not that crazy to think another organization believes there is some chance they can fix him and turn him into an above-average hitter. In the meantime, he serves as OF depth until we acquire something better. Hahn isn't stupid, he wouldn't tender Viciedo a contact if he was unmovable. He's obviously talked to other GMs and determined there is some market for his services. I'm fairly certain that Hahn doesn't want Dayan as a starting OF unless all other plans fail to work out. IMO, the odds of Viciedo being on Opening Day roster are incredibly low. actually no, it's not. It's left handed power that is at a premium. From that perspective, LaRoche is worth more than perhaps he got. Viciedo is a dime a dozen .5 WAR player that could turn into a 2 WAR player and is getting paid like a 1 WAR player. The sort of guy that you have a hard time trading on OOTP 15. At best, someone will give PTBNL or will claim him on waivers in May. The Sox made the right bet IMO, but if he's the starting LF in April something went wrong. A platoon or a 5th OF role (assuming they have the IF versatility) would be OK, but not ideal either.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 12:45 AM) When we were interested in him a few seasons ago, wasn't he quoted saying he hates pitching at our ballpark? He doesn't like Chicago, it's well known. He specifically had a beef with Q back in the day. I'm sure it's nothing he couldn't be talked into but it doesn't help imo. That said, Sox don't have the pieces to get this done and they aren't close enough to contending to bother anyways. They'd be much better signing Melky (or better, Headley) and then seeing what they can do to improve the pitching without breaking the farm system again.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) As I mentioned in a different thread, there are much worse ways to spend a bench spot and $4 million than on Dayan Viciedo. No contending team wants to carry a a 90 wRC+ DH/LF type as their 4th OF. You need someone that can play center, ideally can play it well so can be used as a defensive replacement in LF/RF as well. I disagree completely, there are myriad better ways to use both the money and the roster spot. edit: ha, me and Rowand on that same ish.
  19. If they can't find a trade partner for Viciedo IMO he's a non-tender candidate. If there is zero market for him the last thing want is to be stuck with his dead weight. That said, that's probably unlikely. Someone will take a flyer on him in late Winter IMO. Won't be the Sox though.
  20. I think where there is smoke there is fire, especially with the Sox and A's history of trades. That said, the smoke could be long gone at this point. Things will heat up here and if he's not dealt to Chicago by Xmas yea it's over.
  21. Look at Hahn's history on contracts and in general financial dealings -- he's not going to forget that OH s*** Shark is a FA right after he shakes Beane's hand. Thing is, maybe Shark is looking for a deal to come and stay in Chicago -- he's spoke favorably about returning and I don't know if the Cubs are even in the picture --he didn't exactly leave on great terms. So, he could, in effect, force Beane's hand and say "I only want to go to _____" You'd hope the Sox were one of a few teams at that point. That Dan Hayes interview is garbage. No s*** sherlock. I also highly doubt that Tim Anderson's name has "been thrown out there". From what I'm reading, TA is a highly valued prospect, not just to the Sox -- he's borderline top 30 in all MLB at this point. If he does go, it will only be in a major deal bringing back a lot of MLB ready talent. That's "throwing him out there" but only in the right deal -- and what team wants to give up what it will take? 1 year of Shark for TA doesn't even move the needle. Bring over Moss and a resigned Shark and hey maybe.
  22. huh, I thought cespedes was a FA in '17. Obviously the entire premise is flawed then.
  23. Cespedes for anyone other than Rodon and Anderson is a no brainer imo. Shark is different because of his contract but if you can get him to agree to an extension as part of the trade then ditto. The team is nicely setup to win but they need at least 2 more good pieces. Shark and/or Cespedes would go a long way towards getting back to 88 win territory.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 06:44 PM) toward the end, I believe he just got tired. there is nothing wrong at that. he needs to build up his endurance. also I was trying to get acquainted with the advance stats, I saw he was horrible against lefties. I def think he got tired. It happens to a lot of guys. Conor is a nice option at 3B against RHP and he's cheap so unless he goes out in a trade that brings back more than a 2 WAR short stop or 3B that's also cheap doesn't make any sense to move him and or not play him. 3B is like 6th or 7th on the list of needs imo. I'd rank pen, starting, lf, 2b, and c ahead. Conor needs a platoon partner that man is Semian.
