  1. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 18, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) I think Ventura did nothing to inspire the team during the rut (it may not have been his fault either), and I think he's doing nothing to pull the strings during their hot streak either. I just can't figure out why he's the manager of this team. At this point you can throw out all that stuff and just focus on the tactical mistakes. Calling for a reliever before the PH was announced (I don't care if Hernandez was unclear, you sure as s*** make sure it was announced before ou signal, why the hell RV was sitting in the dugout and had Cooper go out is beyond me but it seems clear RV was in the dark) and not challenging in Detroit are clear tactical mistakes that should never, ever happen.
  2. It's nice to be excited about the season again. With the way Avi is starting to hit he could be a huge boost. This offense is going to have black holes (catcher, 2B maybe, SS at times) so if a few guys can stay hot together and carry the team for stretches that will be great. Basically the scrubs are going to scrub, the stars need to star.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) lol. So he should take the umpires mistake, and turn it into an even bigger mistake by getting kicked out of the game? The reality is that the umpire is the final authority and if he screws up, there isn't much you can do about it. Compounding the error by trying to show up the umpire isn't going to help the team, and in fact will probably just piss him off against your team. RV is like the kid that keeps getting in trouble and can't get off probation. At a certain point the kid says "stuff just keeps happening to me I don't get it" and it's up to someone to tell him about the two types of people in this world. RV is one that lets things happen. I'm not harping on some minor point like reliever usage -- this was a huge error. Jim, at SSS, who prior to this year has mainly toed the line of "get him better players" called it nothing less than "Ventura's Bevington moment". The As broadcast crew was shocked as well. It was a bad mistake however it happened and I'm of the opinion that RV will continue to let this sort of thing happen. So Hernandez pointed, how about you know asking him "hey, has the PH been announced?" before you make the call to the pen. The entire thing was bizarre with Cooper on the mound. Is RV too lethargic to even walk out to make the change himself anymore? Just a cluster no wonder RV let himself get played.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2015 -> 12:30 PM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes Heard in clubhouse that Angel Hernandez did signal that Stephen Vogt was in as a hitter Fri & reversed & said he was noting pinch runner. If that's the case he should have argued and got him self ejected because that is horse s***. Either way, it's an awful look. Hayes is just carrying the orgs water regardless.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) Which illustrates the reality that things aren't always as simple as they are made out to be. While going by the numbers is one thing, sometimes there are external reasons for not doing stuff like that. He made a pitching change before the PH was announced. That it didn't blow up in his face was pure luck.
  6. QUOTE (scs787 @ May 18, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) Sigh people still see Saturday as a mistake? It would have been his 5th game in 7 days, and he was needed on the 16th as well. If Robin pitched him 6 of 8 days and Rovo got hurt or starter to get beat up a bit, Robin would get roasted for using him too much. It's not that. He got played for a fool by Oakland. Made a pitching change before the PH was officially announced. An error you expect a 1st year manger to perhaps make. Not a guy in his 4th.
  7. The mistake with Duke on Saturday night could have easily cost them the game. It was another amateur moment (like not challenging in the Detroit) that could have had a big negative impact. RV got lucky. The team playing better is what they should do. I will give RV credit if the team wins 88 games and makes the playoffs but right now I just see another guy on the bench, one that continues to make simple mistakes that cost the team.
  8. That was an All-Star series for Avi. He now leads the team in OBP and OPS. Other than the baserunning blunder he dominated. Made every play in the outfield and hit the s*** out of the ball. The As radio crew was slobbering on him.
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 17, 2015 -> 05:24 PM) ...completely irrelevant in a conversation about the difficulty of walking Crisp. lol are you this obtuse? ATTACK THE HITTER. and where are you getting your stats anyways? 11%? it's 9.8% this yearr and 8.4 for his career bro. You were looking at his minor league row on Fangraphs.
  10. he walked a guy that had a -32 wRC+ coming into today. GMAFB. That is what happens.
  11. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 17, 2015 -> 05:19 PM) That 2-2 pitch to Crisp was so filthy the ump missed it. A lot of run on the 2 seamer today. for sure.
  12. you have to really try to walk crisp.
  13. Shark playing with fire.
  14. wow that was low right?
  15. Semien owes his 1B a couple steak dinners.
  16. hate to keep harping but Sanchez is making it look easy!
  17. Kazmir settling in his change obviously looks good.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ May 17, 2015 -> 04:42 PM) I am not banking on his future, but he's first sox prospect tO hit his way up in a long time. his contact rate will be critical. If he can hustle out 10-20 hits a year and hit around 270, he'll play. Power will never be there nor patience but with his glove, you can live with it as long as he hits some ropes like he did that inning and hustles 'em out. This is his age 22 season. He's got some development left imo.
  19. good pitch to hit, fouled it off.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ May 17, 2015 -> 04:39 PM) CARLOS! Pretty good for a utility ceiling His ceiling IMO is solid starter. I can easily see him having a 10 year career with 15-25 war. His glove will play. If he can hit 270/300/380, in today's game that's a fine 2B.
  21. nice Alexei. Can't hit it much harder than that that was a rope.
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 17, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) It's all about his slider. Once he finds it he will pitch as advertised. The pitch is a big negative until then. From reading this game thread you would have no idea the Sox were up 1-0. Always comical. Shark continues to look awful, 1-0 lead aside. "it's all about his slider" -- easier said than done. He also has s*** command on his fastball.
  23. so a guy that can't throw a strike you swing at the 1st pitch. Thank god that Crisp sucks. He seems like a guy Ozzie would continue to play. Don't they have other options?
