Offseason 2019-2020 MLB Catch All Thread

He's less of a SS these days than Leury, for starters. -
that dude has one of the quickest load mechanisms I've seen. Very efficient. Doesn't waste motion.

they hoodwinked me!

Giolito threw today it looks like.

Already?

That's fair and if it was make or break year (say like 2024) for one more run at a title I'd say get it done. But it's a needless risk in 2020.

I don't think he's a bad person but he's a HORRIBLE team mate. This is a guy that shredded up the defensive positioning cards and cost his team in the playoffs because he wasn't aligned properly which led to his pitcher absolutely throwing him under the bus -- as deserved. No, stay the hell away from this guy. His actions have legit negative consequences in games.

Thanks, I've been waiting to share some tips. I'd recommend staying in Tempe if you're younger or single. It's about a 30 minute drive from Camelback but at night you can walk to Mill street and enjoy the nightlife and scenery. If you want something quieter Scottsdale is nice and has a number of resorts. Driving is easy in the valley for the most part. I wouldn't worry about being "too far" from anything. If you rent a cheap car you can get to everywhere you need to be in under an hour. As far as seeing the games outside the Sox, I'd recommend hitting up Talking Stick that place actually feels like a MLB park. If you have kids it's a must as they have a huge kids area. Great beer selection as well. Peoria sports complex is...interesting. There is a place outside there that is a must visit IMO called the "moon saloon" that has some of the cheapest drinks around. Think they had $2 beers and $4 well drinks when we went there prior to the Mariners game. I haven't been to the Cubs' stadium but it's supposed to be on the best. Tickets are usually pretty pricey tho. I usually like to go the first week of March. The weather is milder (usually about 70-75 day and 45-55 at night) and you have a better chance of seeing both the main guys and the youngsters. By mid march most of the young camp invites will be sent to their affiliate and many of the regulars will be getting rest days already. Don't bother to purchase tickets in advance unless you're in a large group. And don't bother with anything other than "lawn" or "general admission". The ushers are VERY relaxed in spring training, especially at Camelback. You can slide up right behind home plate about anytime after the 2nd inning. For autographs at camelback usually the Sox players sign on the 1st base lawn side starting about an hour before the game and then when the guys get pulled they will often sign on their way back to the clubhouse. For stuff to do outside baseball I'd recommend climbing Camelback mountain (steep but short and a great view) and if you're into hiking Tom's Thumb is a great hike a bit outside the city of moderate difficulty. For food in Tempe I recommend NCounter, Pedal House brewery and La Bocca. La Bocca is a really great wine and pizza bar. A bit pricey but excellent food and service. Eating outside there with a glass of wine and a solid piece of pizza after a day in the sun and baseball is pure joy if you're coming from a harsh winter.

I'd like to see Abreu and Tim as captains with Grandal as the clubhouse ambassador and guy that does all the tough interviews so others don't have to. But TA might be a bit too young. Hard to believe he's only entering his age 26 season.

LETS GO

Could be. But man the commission is earned because they got the player the most money ya know? Kinda a short sighted decision to fire an agent based on their commission. Regardless, it's hard to see this as anything but a positive for an extension chance.
-
From what I could tell it looks like an agency primarily focused on entertainment clients and for whatever reason is mostly associated with LA MLB clients on the sports side. Who was his agent prior? Could just be he prefers working with a Cuban-American based rep or at least a Carib-American rep.
-
he's not listed but their web page in general sucks and is out dated. Hard to believe a company that sees revenue probably well north of 50 million a year hired what appears to be a GeoCities 2020 level designer. https://themovement360.com/sports-clients/
-
according to their webpage so is despaigne. So if Moncada signs an extension despaigne gets a thank you card from the Sox fanbase.
-
Weird. He's by far their biggest name sports client. They rep a couple big name actors, including Idris Elba. Can only see this as a positive for the White Sox.
-
lol so he traded Tacoma for El Paso as far as AAA scenery. Personally I would have stuck with Tacoma. edit: looks like he had a stop in Detroit/Erie after the Mariners. Man, dude is just hanging on to that MLB dream isn't he? Probably could have made a couple extra million just going to Japan the last few years.
-
Yup, he acknowledged that at Sox Fest in his usual roundabout way. Maybe Gordon Beckham will be a camp invite. Honestly it might sell a few tickets.
-
Nobody wants to come play 2B for the Sox knowing that a top 20 MLB prospect is penciled in for 500 PA after April is up. Furthermore, they aren't going to add anybody to the 40 man wily nily from this point until hopefully sometime around 2026. For those two reasons you're unlikely to see anybody brought in but a minor league invite.

So the Sox will be able to get Colas and this kid without going over the limit? Is there someone out there next year worth the penalty for going over? Good to see them spending the money regardless. This pitcher looks like he might have a 1/4 shot to be a decent 3rd starter and if not looks like he projects as a decent middle reliever if his fastball plays up a bit out of the pen. -
The 3 game series plan is dumb I agree. I'd like to see every playoff series at least 5 games. We'll see what happens.
-
How much value does the regular season have when 1/2 the teams aren't competing? This fetishization of having the 10 or so teams competing for a playoff spot fattening up on clubs that will lose 90+ games doesn't make a lot of sense to me either.

Not me.
