FS: Absolutely Go Into The Light
Whenever that happens to me in OOTP I know my club is loaded :). But yea, it will be something to think about and plan around.

Dylan Covey
Covey with a 95 mph tailing two seam fastball is a helluva pitcher. His breaking ball was also sharp and his changeup was good enough as a third pitch, working off that really good fastball. I cannot explain how he gained 4-5 ticks on his fastball (hey if it was that easy everybody would) but now that it's happened he's a completely different guy. Someone said last year he was "afraid to attack" -- well yea. Wouldn't you be with a 90 mph heater at the MLB level?

Shields attracting trade interest
They were great assets for a club in the playoff hunt no doubt but long term value on each wasn't much, like almost all relievers. But I agree that they were very good for the Yankees last year and the Sox are unlikely to have such assets available this year at the deadline, at least out of the pen.

Shields attracting trade interest
He's a B- type. If you go lower than that you're just getting A ball no names or Saladino types. You package shields with someone else to get to that level. If they ask for Avi, who cares. If they ask for Yolmer, you ask for more. Rutherford was considered a B+ guy when the Sox got him and they got him for two months of Todd Frazier and two very fungible relievers (as we've seen this year). It's not going to take much to get a B- type.

She's totally a "Gabby", isn't she? Cutee but screams "basic b****" to me.

6/7- White Sox at Twins, 12:10
Nice play Moncada. Smart to just take it himself. And nice fundamentals on that grounder. Yoan has really been a pleasant surprise overall on defense.

If that fat slug could slide properly he would be safe. But he couldn't.

Jose has such great hands. He hits pitches hard that he has no business hitting hard based on where his lower half is.

WTF was that?

6/7- White Sox at Twins, 12:10
He's jamming himself on fastballs. It's alarming. It's reminding me a bit of Gordon Beckham. Obviously Moncada has more talent in his finger than Beckham has in his whole body but some of the swing analysis of Yoan that talked about how he'd have a hard time timing MLB pitches because of his loading mechanism seem more accurate now. Nothing he can't overcome but he's in a rut right now. He's popping up fastballs he should be driving into the gaps.

Moncada looks like shit.

6/6- White Sox at Twins, 7:10
he's taking a throw from 3B and he's got his right foot on the RF side of the bag and furthermore it's not his heel on the bag -- he's doing some weird ankle twist. It's like WTF? I've also noticed that he's either really lazy or really sloppy holding runners on. He's not in a good position to make a tag on pickoffs most of the time. love Jose but he's a butcher at 1B, no ways around it.

Who the hell taught Jose 1B footwork? Mercy.

White Sox select Nick Madrigal with 4th overall pick
Wade Boggs: 301/377/377, wRC+ of 132, over 88 career fWAR. A guy with a .76 ISO produced a wRC+ of 132. That tells you a lot about the value of OBP.

White Sox select Nick Madrigal with 4th overall pick
It's been awhile since I read Tango but I believe a point of OBP is worth about 1.5x as much in linear run weights as a point of slugging. All things equal a hitter that hits 200/400/200 is more valuable than one that hits 200/200/400. Have we forgotten our Moneyball already! Don't make outs. If Madrigal is getting on base 38% of the time it really doesn't matter how many home runs he hits. He's not making many outs. Any power is a bonus.

2018 White Sox catch-all thread
Mitch Moreland? Honestly you might have convinced me. Fangraphs only sees .7 more fWAR for Jose rest of way. 125 wRC+ for Jose and 107 wRC+ for Moreland. Wouldn't be a huge upgrade for them. Yankees might be a suitor, Greg Bird can't stay healthy. If he gets injured they will def be looking at Jose, might be looking at him regardless.
