QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) One big difference, the Astros are paying the Marlins. If you claim Lee, you have to pay him his entire contract. The Marlins were trying to trade him and wanted teams to eat $2.5 million even though they essentially are paying him the minimum. For 2 months that's about $6 million.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) Again, i'm not really religious, but I can see this plain as day. Religion, and especially Christianity, is still a huge part of society. No questioning that. But the coverage is almost ALWAYS negative. Some of it (priest scandals) for good reason. Most not. I've said this one before, but I'll re-note...this is totally not the case in Tennessee.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) Why would anyone take Lee? His contract ends this year and his OPS is 105 points better than James Loney, for a single example. Same reason the Marlins traded for him in the first place.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal #Phillies' Cliff Lee indeed on waivers, as reported by @JeffPassan. Also currently on: #Marlins' Carlos Lee, #RedSox's Carl Crawford. MORE Carlos won't make it through, so he might be moving pretty quick. Would the Marlins let him walk if someone claimed him to block the Dodgers?

One of the primaries in Tennessee has become a contest over who wants to hate the mosque/Islam more.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) Well then he's never going to get moved. No one can absorb an extra $25M a year like that for a nearly-34-year-old pitcher. This is probably the right answer anyway. That Phillies team may be out of things this year but any team throwing Halladay, Lee, and Hamels at you has a shot at competing. And they signed that contract so that he could help them compete now.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) I think I've made my point, but just for the hell of it......another Rio one that came out years before the Shuffle, you know, when the technology to add a screen to micro mp3 players apparently didn't exist..... There's another difference though...those devices were nice, but you couldn't hook them up easily to an available, legal online store for music. Hooking a shuffle up to Itunes, being able to rapidly swap in and out playlists and other content...legally, was a very important part of their success also.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 03:26 PM) No you guys are wrong IMO. Here's it the defiinition of a priest nowadays to liberal America: A pedophile. Cut and dried. Case closed. That is a priest to the world and that is very sad. Because yes there were a zillion pedophiles in the priesthood. Why? Because that's an occupation in which pedophiles can get to kids. Just like there are pedophiles in all occupations where sickos can get to kids. Add to that the fact the bishops committed CRIMINAL acts in protecting these scumbag pedophiles and you get today's definition of the priesthood and Catholic faith. Priest equals pedophile. Bishops equal lawbreakers. Bye bye Catholic faith DESPITE THE FACT THERE ARE TONS OF GREAT PRIESTS, one who was the biggest POSITIVE influence in my life (negative to those of you who hate my love of Ozzeroo). So, you're saying that there is a lack of priests because the catholic church covered up an enormous pedophile scandal? I believe Job 4:8 says: "As I have observed, those who plow evil and those who sow trouble reap it".

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 03:11 PM) They would have to throw in like $40M to whatever team takes him. They won't do that, they were asking the Rangers to both take on his contract and to give legit talent back.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) Good, I must not watch him a lot. I always like it when our President mentions God. That was exactly my point. It is sick and sad that that is today's version of being a practicing Christian in today's society. And again, Jake proved my point perfectly. Without hesitation, he typed in that crap blasting the Bible, whereas I would have to think long and hard before I typed in something about gays or other groups of people with certain beliefs. That is today's society. Hammer away at the rednecks who believe in God. The next step will be when government officials stop mentioning God at all. That will come in the next 20 years I'm sure. Look at how Tebow is mocked all the time. If you are Catholic ... please. The jokes are coming galore. This sentence by Jenksismyb**** described my situation perfectly To the liberal world I am ... "a gay-hating, science-denying redneck." The liberals have absolutely won that fight, and there's really no debate about it. I think that was Greg's point. Great post, Jenks! Yes, because you never, ever hear anyone joke about gays. And Tim Tebow being one of the most popular players in the NFL has nothing to do with his faith. If you want to sit in your home/hang out with people who believe the gays deserve to be punished, fine, no one is stopping you from believing that. But it is not your right to deny them the rights this country gives to everyone else.

Official 2012-2013 NCAA Football Thread

Oh, and yes, it is hard to believe it was a completely random, unprovoked attack/robbery that managed to find him. Not impossible, just not likely, unless Madison has roving gangs of young men beating and robbing people these days. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 02:48 PM) What would non-random responses be, exactly, if the question was about participating in porn? "Yes" "No" "Yes with caveats I wrote below..."

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 02:47 PM) Look, I wasnt there so obviously I dont know the whole story, but these guys are machines. They get hit for a living. I just cant imagine him getting knocked down and not getting up and going nuts. JMO Well, the initial report is of him having a concussion, and of people responding pretty quick. If 5 guys were kicking him on the ground for more than a few seconds, he'd be in much worse shape. And presumably, the first blow that started everything was to the head if it knocked him to the ground, so there was very likely some "being dazed" involved. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 02:36 PM) Am i the only one who finds it weird that one of the best RBs in college football got jumped out of nowhere and A:he didnt appear to fight back, and B he said he did not know his attackers? Seems fishy Where'd you get that part from? And no that's not surprising, if you take a hard blow to the head and are surrounded by attackers/on the ground, you might not even be coherent enough to attempt to defend yourself, especially if things happen quickly. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 02:10 PM) Right, and absent some clearly rare examples, same-sex marriages have no history until recently. That's his point. Marriage started because creation of a life depended on it. But don't come here and tell me that there is one single understanding of marriage that has prevailed throughout human history, and don't come here and tell me that there weren't plenty of homosexual unions in the time before Western governments put together the current set of marriage laws. absent some clearly rare examples, interracial marriage had virtually no history until recently either.

There was something funny to me about looking up at the TV while at the gym and seeing the anchors on CNBC ranting about how high-frequency, computer driven trading is destabilizing the markets and destroying confidence. Socialists.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 02:00 PM) Exception to the rule or the norm? The norm for marriage has changed drastically over time. I mean, 50 years ago, interracial marriage was an abomination in many parts of the country. It's not even the same worldwide. How recent is the "No fault divorce" trend?
-
Do we really need to go through how incorrect it is to state this current understanding of marriage is the one that has prevailed since homo sapiens first existed...or do you need the other 19 people in your Harem to bring you a dowry of 3 goats each first?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) Republicans are actually comparing contraception coverage to Pearl Harbor and 9/11. Sen. Inouye didn't appreciate the comparisons. More than 1 idiot did so?

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) White Sox have a 12 or 13 million dollar option on him At this point, the only reason they wouldn't pick it up is if he keeps struggling for the last 2 months.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) By this logic any private campaign to lobby the government to do anything even remotely close to enforcing religious belief is unconstitutional. This is just so wrong. I never argued that it was unconstitutional here for them to do what they did, and I'm not sure I've argued anything about the constitutionality of gay marriage, only the morality of it and total lack of morality on the side of the opposition. But yeah, it'd be damn great if we could stop having private money buy elections.
