QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 03:13 PM) In my opinion. having a committee that "snubs" team number #70 in the RPI is very different from a group picking ONLY 4 teams to play for the title. I say we reduce the NCCA basketball tournament to just the top 4 teams. In most seasons, its going to be really easy for me to say, when someone starts complaining about the #5 team being snubbed...that they should have won the extra game. If you're picking between three 1-loss teams for the final 2 spots, and a team doesn't make it that did win their conference, the simple answer is going to be "you shouldn't have had that other real bad loss". -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) Sabathia out two weeks...maybe no later than right after the All-Star break. Still, that's 2-3 starts of their ace that they miss.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) Wow. No kidding. Humber? We are not in a position to be helping the Yankees out unless we're in a mood to white flag it. Now that they've lost both Pettitte and Captain cheeseburger for a while, they're going to suddenly be catchable both in the East and in the WC.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 03:33 PM) Which means no All-Star appearance. Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales Sale will get an extra day of rest before his next start Tuesday vs. Texas. Lined up to pitch first-half finale vs. Toronto. That's clearly deliberate.

Wow, Ohman's actually getting worse.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 03:18 PM) .176 I'm impressed that ESPN's stats lied to me this much.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 03:16 PM) Flowers a hit Now hitting .250 on the season.

Let's face it, the NCAA does have experience with "Selection committees". And even though every year some teams have their bubbles burst, it works out ok, and what people wind up remembering are the games. I can't imagine they'd pick a 1 loss team that lost its conference champion over an undefeated. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 02:50 PM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN Chris Sale, an excellent candidate to start All-Star Game for AL, has about 95 IP this season. Career high (college, pro) is 136. That's only true if you don't count the Cape Cod League.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 02:40 PM) But he's not healthy, and the Sox gave up two huge pieces for him. Lillibridge hit more HRs than Dunn last year! Seriously...you don't want to be the one who gets blamed for the jinx.
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 12:54 PM) So his annual salary of $0 prorated over 50 days works out to something around $0, if I did the math correctly. He still has a salary for this season.

QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 10:26 AM) I read that there were Dodger and Blue Jay scouts in attendance watching Floyd. Would you part with him during this current good streak? What are we getting back that helps us compete this year?

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 09:42 AM) Here are some sobering facts that should put the Viciedo question in proper perspective: Last year, in 186 at bats, Brent Lillibridge had 5 doubles, 1 triple, 13 homers and 29 RBI's, while hitting .258 with a .340 OBP. This year, in 233 at bats, Dayan Viciedo, has 4 doubles, 0 triples, 12 homers and 32 RBI's, while hitting .253 with a .287 OBP. And this is a guy whom everyone seems to feel was "nothing" to give up for Youkilis, and is of little value, except as a utility player. He wasn't even regarded highly enough to be given a chance to play when Morel went down. He was passed in favor of Hudson and Escobar. The point is that Lillibridge had a better season than "Tank" is having so far. It seems apparent that many of you are enamored with Viciedo's potential, not his actual, current ability. Are the Sox playing for this year, or the future? That is the question. Perhaps neither Jackson, nor Johnson can provide some offensive help in LF, but this team should be trying to upgrade production at that position. One or both of those guys should be given a chance, unless someone has a better idea. So, when Brent Lillibridge was incredibly hot and useful and winning a ton of games for the Sox, he was better than Viciedo currently is, but not by an incredible amount. And I'm not supposed to take from this that...Viciedo has been fairly effective and helped the Sox win games?

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 09:36 AM) Some of these f***ing idiots could afford a damn chauffeur. The Lions rap sheet is pretty extensive this offseason. Hell, if it's that big of a deal for the guy to not leave the car behind, then the teams/league can contract with a tipsy-tow service. At least for the Lions, I think it'd clearly have been worth it.

The sad thing is, Greg gets called out by the site owner, something he almost never does...and Greg learns nothing from it.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 10:53 PM) Hawk needs to explain to me why he just said this was a "big game" How more so than tomorrow? Having a chance to go into tomorrow's game looking at another Target field Sweep would ahve been rough.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 10:28 PM) I take it Youk did something good? Great defensive play moving to his right and jump throw to get Mauer.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 10:28 PM) Good inning MT. Either the gun was fast or his fastball had a bit more on it tonight.

Youk!

I have no clue how, but compliments on the game Gavin.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 09:28 PM) I wonder how many strikeouts looking he has this year He only has 23 strikeouts total, so not many.

Ben Gordon and Pistons protected 2013 draft pick to Charlotte for Corey Maggette.

Stone told Gavin to throw the ball down the middle and it didn't go at anyone.
