  1. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) So reading through the thread I see a few people that seem sure he's still not healthy...what makes you think that? He's already been to the DL and has came off, is it because back problems are always a lingering problem?? What are the chances its not fluff when he says he feels great?? He is 5 for 11 over the last week so maybe its true. Hopefully the chances of him really meaning it when he says he feels good are high, and hopefully the 5 for 11 streak does indicate that. The reasons I worry he's not healthy are 2-fold...first I didn't think his body could handle 3b when they moved him back there last year, so seeing him struggle with injury th is year really backs up that suspicion. Second, even though he had a good 10 days right after coming off the DL...he's been dreadful most of June, and for a guy like him that's hard to figure out unless he's still in pain. Hopefully the recent days off while Middlebrooks has been raking will be the last bit he needs, and hopefully Hermy can help also.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 12:56 PM) So far the Court has been ruling in favor of the Federal govt. No, they've been ruling in favor of the Chamber of Commerce. And the Chamber has opposed this bill.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 12:41 PM) Probably. Plus we get the added benefit of unions' political fund-raising abilities being likely crippled (again, in an overly broad ruling granting relief no one was asking for in last week's ruling against the SEIU)! Which is exactly what you'd do if you were trying to design a system that would benefit corporate interests the most. It's intelligent design at work!
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 12:35 PM) well duh eta: or admitting that you were very, very wrong on a case that's been heavily criticized since you decided to massively expand its scope and then rule the way you did isn't exactly easy to do. Do you really think "candidates hanging out with billionaires writing checks for millions of dollars with no disclosure" wasn't exactly what the majority 5 wanted?
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 12:24 PM) What's funny (sad) is that the overturned Montana law is a 100-year-old law enacted directly in response to a wealthy copper baron essentially buying his way to power. But the 5 justices don't even want to reconsider the possibility that their base assumption that "independent expenditures, including those made by corporations, do not give rise to corruption or the appearance of corruption" is wrong. Or...they know fully well that assumption is wrong, but they have other priorities.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 12:22 PM) Also, they need pitching real bad. I just don't understand how they think Stewart is the solution to that problem. He's a project arm. He probably won't be real "useful" this year, if they have to use him at the big league level he's likely to be just as bad as what we saw here, but there's a foundation of talent upon which they hope they can build something.
  7. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 11:51 AM) The Bulls keeping status quo and making minimal adjustments to the roster this summer will put them in a difficult position to contend going forward, I really hope for once they show some aggression and re-tool this roster like it needs to be. Knowing Bulls management they will essentially blow up the bench replace it with rookies and continue to try to contend with this same core. The time to move Deng is now. 13.3M this coming year 14.4M the following year, value is pretty high right now. For a team in desperate need of a second scorer/creator we can't afford to be paying 28 million over the next two years for an intangible defensive spot up shooter who can't create his own shot. Other teams certainly value a guy like Deng and the Bulls scooping a lottery pick plus ideally some cap relief just makes too much sense. Naturally the Bulls will hold on to him while our current roster is not in a position to compete with Miami in the East and everyone notices how necessary a re-tool is. Problem is...Deng's value right now is really hurt by the fact that he needs that wrist surgery post olympics to come back 100%. Either he comes into next season struggling with that injury or he misses the first month or two of the year.
  8. If I understand things, this ruling is now slated for Thursday.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) Apparently this rumor of Deng to GSW for the 7th overall pick is gaining some momentum. No word on what players would move to match salaries. Andrew Bogut or David Lee could be included to match Deng's salary directly, Jefferson or Biedrins could be used along with a smaller salary to match. None of those players are expiring deals, unless Jefferson/Biedrins decline 2013/2014 player options.
  10. Well, at least they didn't make anything worse.
  11. Damnit, totally got self confused based on thread title and your post.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 10:03 AM) summarily reversed 5-4, no new certs. They reversed Citizen's United?!
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 11:30 PM) Looser clubhouse. Manager who didn't let him take the offseason and spring training off because he's a veteran who knows how to get himself ready?
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 02:58 PM) Why does everybody act like the AL is so superior? Who has been winning the WS lately? Who is kicking the Sox ass this season?? The NL. I'd sign him. Why not?
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 07:15 AM) I actually didn't mind Stewart as much as most, but if he has to be a starter to be effective, I'm saying he's selling insurance in the next 18 months. He might have a bullpen future as well...but everything in his repertoire needs polish. The only way that's going to happen for him is to get a decent number of innings. He's a guy who falls into that old saying of "You can't teach velocity". The kid throws a 92 mph 2-seamer. Even if he can't locate it well, there's some value in that which might be able to be developed, which is why we were able to trade him for a very useful part.
  16. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 08:46 AM) I can see Lillibridge coming back to the White Sox. The Red Cubs are chock full of outfielders and speedy lil guys (Nick Punto), right? Yeah, but their OF's have been on the DL all year. They will have to figure out what they're doing with them in a few weeks when Crawford and Ellsbury start th eir comebacks.
  17. The Marlins had to give up players to make it all go away.
  18. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) Chance at getting pitcher of the month for June, imagine that, Peavy for April and Sale for May, then Q for June, that would be something He's not been the absolute best in the month, but he's up there. He ought to have 1 more start this month. Another shutout might well do that.
  19. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 09:04 PM) You really think that's what's going on? Get a clue. Yeah. The implicit goverment subsidy to the banking industry right now is worth something like $75 billion a year.
  20. R.A. Dickey allowed an earned run. 44 2/3 consecutive innings without an earned run, first time since May 22. Longest streak since Orel.
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 07:50 PM) Yeah, don't see Dunn going with his average as low as it is. Plus David Ortiz gets the DH spot by virtue of Boston fan vote.
  22. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 07:08 PM) It's your policy, not mine. Keep taking money from the workers and sucking that government teat. Yes, keep taking money from workers. By dismantling unions and by backstopping the banks. And you know what else we need? Fewer teachers and policemen and firefighters. Clearly the problem is that too many people are on the government teat. That's why corporate profits are falling so rapidly, because the government's taking from them too. Oh wait. Forgot. Opposite. The corporate world is taking money from workers and sucking on that government teat.
  23. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 07:04 PM) Go Barack! Don't you have complaining about how bad wealth redistribution is to get to?
