  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) Yes, something has to be done to get budgets in line -- but huge raises in service fees and property taxes at this specific point in time is absolutely shortsighted and absurd. It may very well end up doing the City more harm than good. The government is supposed to assist the people in bad times...well, this is bad times. When times are good, THEN implement the huge fees and taxes he's implementing. Right now he's hurting far more people than you realize. Then how do you balance the budget without hurting an equal number of people through cuts in education or whatever else?
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) I think Mitchell could be ready for the MLB soon, but there's no place to play him. This is almost a good thing because he may get to the point at the minor league level where he is comfortable enough against the pitching to remain successful while tweaking his approach and/or swing mechanics to cut down on the strikeouts. Many prospects never get this luxury because they can put up decent numbers with a high K number and get moved up, but never got to the point where they could focus on cutting out the K's and still hit the baseball. We could see a bit more polished version of him because of our glut of outfielders. Of course in the case of injury he is yet more depth, though I think Jordan Danks may be good enough to be an MLB regular. Both from the eye test and the long performance slump, I think Mitchell is still a long stretch of development away from being big league ready.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) Y2hh, You can add Jindal to the list of people calling it Obamacare. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/louisia...-152429092.html So? For Republican politicians that's basically the norm since it's a quasi-derogatory term.
  4. Hypothetically if Crain hits the DL, this is the current white sox pitching staff: Reed ® Santiago ® OmoGrosso ® Jones ® Thornton Bruney Septimo ® That's 5 in the bullpen with the ®, and the rotation Sale (not a qualified R any more but first year as a starter) Axelrod ® Quintana ® Floyd Peavy 7 rookies out of a 12 man pitching staff, and then Sale thrown in for good measure.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 01:28 PM) Right now he's struggling a bit but has started to hit again. Sure, his average isn't great but he's a great athlete and his OBP is fantastic. By the start of 2013, I expect him to compete to win a job with the Sox. By then, Rios will be gone and they will need a RF'er unless Danks works out. He's probably a natural CF, but the Sox can get him started in RF and eventually move him over.I will be impressed if Mitchell is ready to compete for a job with the Sox by the end of 2013. And Rios will not be gone by the end of 2013 uless someone takes on his contract, which runs through the end of 2014.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 09:50 AM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin Crain not available tonight, should be available Friday according to Robin ? what's wrong?
  7. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 09:50 AM) I think there is something to the fact that Chicagoans are just used to s***ty politicians (or, depending how you look at it, really really good politicians). I know it's fun to complain about tax increases...but seriously, has Rahmbo done anything near the level of Daley destroying an airfield or allowing the city to be ripped off completely on the parking meter deal yet?
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) Axelrod's not going to be in the rotation longer than it'll take Phil or John to get healthy. As long as he keeps going out there and simply gives us a chance to win, that's all I'm asking for. Between Axelrod, Quintana, and Castro down at AAA, they're going to make it tough to whittle down next year's rotation to 5 if they keep this up. And that's assuming Floyd and Peavy get moved.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:59 AM) With some of the awful pens around baseball, any chance we get a low level guy for him? Trading for him or claiming him is also the difference between paying him ~$200k for the rest of the year and $1.25 mil ($2.5 mil this year, prorated for 1/2 the season).
  10. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:58 AM) Somebody else on here said it first, I don't remember who. Possibly Balta? No, that one wasn't me.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 10:46 PM) Mitchell will be up in 2013. De Aza is pretty damn good. Sale is OK I'd say. Floyd is a 4 or 5, Danks is a 2 or 3 when healthy, Beckham is a great fielder and is starting to hit, Jordan Danks has shown flashes, Flowers has a cannon, and so on. Hopefully Thompson and Hawkins can turn out to be alright. Axelrod showed tonight that he can be decent. After the year, they might be able to get an OK prospect for Alexei if they so choose, and if Rios keeps this up, I can see a team like Pittsburgh taking a chance on him after the season for a good prospect. Why so mad? Mitchell will not be up in 2013.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:53 AM) Some guys out-pitch their stuff ala Mark Buehrle, and some guys under-pitch it, ala Javy Vazquez. Axe seems like a guy who is going to out-pitch it. With the roster now, he has the worst stuff on the staff by far, and he just went down and shutdown a red hot Yankees team. The key for a guy like Axelrod is going to be durability. He's going to have some solid games and he's going to have some games where he has to fight through things with people hitting him...but if he can go out there every 5th day and be consistent in terms of health, and give 200+ innings a year, then you live with an ERA somewhere in the 4's.
  13. QUOTE (Real @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 04:08 AM) holy s***, De Aza has a .782 OPS, lol his OBP is almost .370, unreal He's a legit steal.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 11:58 PM) No way Deng is going to be ready to go in November. And you still have to wait and see how the offseason plays out. But unless the Bulls are suddenly switching conferences, they're easily a playoff team. Deng could be ready to go if he skips the surgery for some reason.
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:04 AM) Official temp down here yesterday was 103, which was an all-time record for June. My car was registering 105 on the way home from work. Our forecast for today is 104-105, tomorrow 107-108. Last time I hit 108 was driving through Vegas/Death Valley in July.
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 07:59 AM) Roberts actually read the law and the constitution and determined which parts were and weren't OK. Alternative: Roberts was troubled that his legacy on the court might wind up being the striking down of this bill and all of the implications of doing so for completely destroying the ability of the US government to function.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 04:15 PM) We typically don't have record-setting streaks of consecutive 100+ days in June. We have a shot at the all time temperature record the next 2 days. Might get it by more than 3 degrees if forecast holds.
  18. H Christ Reed. Anyone else in this pen want a shot at closing?
  19. If Wise hurts us here I will be quite sick.
  20. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 09:50 PM) I think the situations of Johnson and Viciedo are unrelated. Viciedo is the clear starter but Johnson should be on this bench instead of Odog as viable pinch hitter off the bench and possible 3B, 1B, and LF in a pinch We use defensive replacements a lot more than pinh hitters or backup 1b.
  21. Good to see a big night for De Aza too
  22. So did anything happen while I was watching the daily show or are we still benching and trading Viciedo?
