  1. QUOTE (southsidepride15 @ May 31, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) Gordo has above avg speed, does he not? For about a year and a half, he flat out could not catch up to the fastball. No matter how fast his bat speed was in 2009, in 2011 you could throw a good fastball by him and he'd have no shot.
  2. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 31, 2012 -> 03:58 PM) Gonzalez tore his ACL. He won't be back for awhile. Well, that would rule him out. Thanks.
  3. The one count was not guilty. Edit: and a mistrial was officially declared on the other 5 counts. Remains to be seen if the government will attempt to retry the case.
  4. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 31, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) Well that's exactly what they're talking about doing, moving Peralta to 3b (where he's probably better suited anyway) and there's no guarantee that VMart is back this season. So they can make a move to do that, but it can't be a long term move, and long term they need to figure out what the bleep they're going to do with their 3 DHs. Alex Gonzalez (currently with the Brewers) might be somewhat sensible there.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 31, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) I think if they let Worth stay at 2b and find a good SS it would help a bunch, but you're right. Finding a good SS would mean getting rid of Peralta or moving Peralta to 3b, which then moves Cabrera back to 1b/DH, Fielder to 1b/DH, and benches Avila or VMart when he returns. Peralta's their SS. The only way he can move somewhere else is if one of those guys is on the DL.
  6. Meet baseball's least appreciated star. (Currently featured on CNN.com's home page, right below an article about a rant by a MLB sportscaster from yesterday).
  7. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 31, 2012 -> 03:40 PM) It's a good question. At one time they thought VMart was lost for the season, then they said he might be back in August. Seems like a big unknown at this point. And I still think the biggest issue they need to address is starting pitching. "Improving their starting pitching" is actually hampered by their poor IF defense. And there's just not much they're going to do about that.
  8. Even as one of the guys who likes hawk, I'm not too thrilled about having "One wild rant by a sports broadcaster" be one of the featured headlines on CNN.com right now.
  9. Jurors deadlocked on 5 of 6 counts, not sure whether guilty or innocent on the 6th count, Judge orders jury to resume deliberations, defense has asked for a mistrial on the remaining counts.
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ May 31, 2012 -> 03:22 PM) I'm really not a big believer in taking high school pitchers. I think a high school position player would be fine, but I tend to prefer the college players overall. Obviously most GM's have moved to the realm where they agree with you unless a superior HS talent is available...which is of course the motivation for going HS, if a superior HS talent is available at your pick.
  11. QUOTE (gatnom @ May 31, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) I really hope they don't do any moves at the deadline. There aren't any huge positions of need outside of third base, and we need to find out what we have in Morel. If this team stays in competition for a while, I won't be mad if Morel loses a year here. That said, I'm not quite sure how the 3b market is going to shape up. David Wright is obviously the prize, but the Sox really don't have the ammo to go after him outside of the big league roster. With so many other teams genuinely competitive, it's hard to figure out who would be significantly better and available. Danny Valencia doesn't exactly excite. Ian Stewart? Padres have Chase Headley but he's under team control through 2015. Brandon Inge?
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 31, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) How are the Sox gonna be buyers if their farm system is soooooooo bad? I think Quintana has built some decent value this season.
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 31, 2012 -> 02:32 PM) Emanuel Pitches Idea Of Chicago Super Bowl How could they even add more seats? not a lot of room. The aliens could build a larger ship...

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 31, 2012 -> 02:31 PM) Actually, the client chose to take their talents (case) to Perantinides & Nolan I'm thrilled you were able to both run with that line and significantly improve upon it.
  15. Worth pointing out: after that many PA's, Joe Crede was 27. Gordon Beckham is 25.5 currently.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 31, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) So this happened near Akron, OH. I knew eventually that story would wind up involving Lebron... (debating whether to add a joke about the refs calling a foul on the students....)
  17. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ May 31, 2012 -> 01:53 PM) Miami isn't going to get swept in the Finals. Bosh should return by then, it should be a good series unfortunately. Even if Bosh returns by then, he's going to be less than 100% effective, just from all the time off, let alone from any lingering effects.
  18. QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ May 31, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) I just can't believe at some point early in 2009 or 2010 I posted an article that described Poreda's upside similar to the Big Unit if he could develop that nasty slider and get more mileage on the FB. How the hell I convinced myself to post that comparison is beyond me now. SMH SMH Here it is: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/21338-c...er-aaron-poreda Because virtually any lefty with a real good fastball can have Johnson's upside if they develop a serious 2nd pitch, good control, and stay healthy.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2012 -> 01:09 PM) If anyone is following the Clemens trial, this guy is all over it https://twitter.com/#!/jimbaumbach The most interesting tweet of the day is that apparently Phil Garner had two members of the 2001/2 Tigers admit to steroid usage. He also outlines how common things like B12 shots were. B12 shots or "B12 shots"?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2012 -> 12:25 PM) It sounds like the team is already doing that. Cooper was talking about limiting, and in some spots eliminating, his bullpen and side sessions. Still, we all know that there's a huge difference between the work you get done in bullpen sessions and the work you get done in games. I can throw a towel drill reference in there if it helps.
  21. QUOTE (sunofgold @ May 31, 2012 -> 01:42 PM) You can use Morel as a defensive replacement at 3rd late in ball games . Also if you want to give Bacon a day off, you can plug Hudson at 2nd base and use Morel at third. If all you're using him for is a defensive replacement, both he and the team are better if he's in AAA. The team is better because it has more options if people have bad days, since Escobar can play more positions than Morel, and Morel's better because he can get back to working on hitting.
  22. Indiana attempts to reach out to Kentucky again, gets shot down by Calipari. At least now I can start feeling that Indiana is really trying to keep this game going and it's not their fault when it goes away.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ May 31, 2012 -> 11:05 AM) Have to wonder if Morel hid/downplayed the injury to try to stay in the lineup. It always looks bad in hindsight, but in the moment as a player you're thinking that it'll just go away and you won't have someone potentially playing well in your position while you're resting. Of course there is some chance that his injuries have been played up by the team to explain his poor play. I don't know. Of course we're dealing with some new faces, but the team has gotten really vocal about guys who have done that in the past. I believe I recall a lot of that coming out with Peavy, for example.
