  1. I think my mood is best described as "Dour". Not because of Ozzie being replaced, but because of the storm clouds on the horizon for the team.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 12:02 PM) I am about 55mins into it and Like it so far as well. If I have a complaint, it's that they're too obviously trying to set up future episodes throughout that one.
  3. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 11:25 AM) Sifting through the vitriol, there are a lot of great observations in this thread, particularly this comment. OG was great for that team and a good manager overall but no longer a fit for the current roster KW gave him. Every time he inexplicably ran Dunn and Rios out there, I wasn't sure he was doing it to get himself fired or was trying to expose KW's mistakes and get him fired instead. It was a great run, a lot of fun, but time to go. I agree the Sox headlines (if there are any) won't be as exciting in 2012, but 2011 was enough for me. I don't think it was just Ozzie not fitting well with the roster. I think that Ozzie is a different person these days too. This is the appreciation thread so I'm going to stop there.
  4. Very much fathomable, IMO.
  5. That is true.
  6. Really? Any time the subject of guns comes up, that's what I'm told, more guns = more safe.
  7. Obviously the more guns a place has the safer it is.
  8. Let's send more money and bombs to stop the flow of drugs, that always works.
  9. Just for a while they were. That's how we added a prescription drug benefit with no right to negotiate with providers.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) Dude, if you think Ozzie's attitude and the team's style of play had nothing to do with taking that group and winning a World Series with it, you are clearly jaded too far anti-Ozzie. I dislike your post here, greatly. It was an ugly divorce, and it's been a long-time coming, but Ozzie had a ton to do with 2005 and with making the White Sox relevant in the national baseball landscape. I am extremely pleased that he had his tenure as White Sox manager. Sure, it was time to go, but Ozzie goes down as one of our best. That version of Ozzie was exactly the perfect fit for that team.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) Losing is not cool, we are not the Cubs! A lot of people seemed to enjoy it when Ozzie was driving the wheel.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:24 PM) A Martz QB can't do that... have to be quick and precise with where the ball goes. Which is pretty aggravating, because when he's out of the pocket his QB rating skyrockets it's not just Martz with that though, quick and precise while in the pocket is pretty much where every QB is being forced to go these days.
  13. He who doesn't plan for forever, fails to plan.
  14. Forever.
  15. Does the player have to play?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:32 PM) I tried to watch Terra Nova tonight, switching back to the Sox during commercials. Once I heard about Guillen, though, I had to stop. Seemed pretty decent. I enjoyed it and will probably keep watching.
  17. Balta wants to know if this thread can be traded to Florida.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:55 AM) That's the hard part of 2012. The results have sucked this year and we still put about a.500 team on the field. If you can get career normal years out of guys like Peavy, Rios, and Dunn, you have a playoff team in the making. Depends on what happens with that pitching staff. No matter how crazy Marty is...he has a point, if you move D1, there's a lot of "Iffy" there, and I'd rather be punched in the gut than go through another full season of a 6 man rotation.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:54 AM) Are you talking about Cooper? I really doubt Kenny doesn't want him here since the Sox wouldn't let him talk to the Yankees last year. Read what he typed..."A new manager who can't pick his coaches".
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) To me, the most exciting part is the hope that a new hitting coach will get some of our core players back on track. For someone like Beckham, next year has to be a make it or break it year and the hitting coach excuse can't be used anymore. Same goes for Dunn...if he struggles next year, he's going to be out of baseball. I'm not saying a hitting coach can save either of these guy's career...but it's worth a try. A new hitting coach is not something that's going to excite me. I'll give it a shot, but no excitement until I see results.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) So let me get this straight. We have a GM that isn't allowed to fire his manager and we'll now have a new manager that will not be able to pick his own coaches? JR sucks. Yeah, that was in the back of my mind when reading Cooper/extension too
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) Buddy Bell is the name that the pro-Ozzie crowd is trying to promote in order to make it sound like "oh no, we'll go with the old guy cause the Sox could never find a solid replacement". If I had to pick a few names on the "would rather not go with" list, it's sorta him an Cora.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) I see the sentiment is that we weren't supposed to celebrate. But upon hearing the news, my roommates and I broke open our bottle of Pappy Van Winkle and took a sip to wash down the last 3 awful, no good years. I'm anxious that white sox baseball could be a step up from god awful to mildly entertaining next year. Let's not beat around the bush here...there is a lot of work to be done before the White Sox can get to "Mildy entertaining". A listless team with a listless new manager/front office would be almost as little fun as this year...the only difference is that the offensive factor/the outrage would be gone.
  24. QUOTE (Real @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 03:46 AM) also, lets get one thing straight, a new manager doesn't usually get the respect of his players in his first year and sometimes it takes a couple years for them to get used to the new guy i don't expect much now going in to 2012, whereas with Ozzie, I hoped talent and complacency would prevail, but with a new mgr, i'm not so sure Didn't Ozzie pretty much build up his team's respect throughout 2004?
