  1. That was nice. Love Thibs going for the kill to start the 4th.
  2. See y'all in Atlanta!
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) No, just your arguments against it! A CEO's tasteless presentation has no impact or effect on how the plant is actually run and inspected. And although the NYT article you posted a couple of days ago raises legitimate concerns about the relationship between a regulatory body and the industry it is regulating, I also have a couple of years of first-hand experience from plants around the country. No, but it certainly supports my contention that this business is run no differently from any other on Wall Street, despite the fact that it needs to be.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:54 AM) They aren't real fans anyway. And some of em smell kinda funny.
  5. I'm gonna be on my way to Atlanta, but today Mitt Romney is trying to salvage his campaign by putting out a Health Care speech.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) I wasn't referring to Green. I was referring to your comment in the "____ is just not a good ____ball player" format... um, ok. Didn't realize that was a problem.
  7. Another bad weekly unemployment number, and the 4 week moving average is back in "bad" territory.
  8. Well, at least you think nuclear safety is a joke.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) The "I'm a bigger fan because I joined Soxtalk before you did" route? Yeah, screw those 2005-starting posters.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:46 AM) What errors have I missed lately? Last night?
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:40 AM) Dude had a fluke stretch, and now you are going to project that as the norm, and use that to endorse a guy you have never seen play LF? Uh, ok. I get what you're saying and on principle you're right, it's possibly a slump, but the simple reality is, he doesn't have any other good reason to keep playing him to get through that slump. He's not able to provide the running game any more, so he doesn't contribute in the lineup. That's not just a fluke, we saw it building last year, and the speed to steal just isnt' there any more. He doesn't provide a high OBP, or power, or anything else really useful. If he can't provide excellent defense, he's hurting us in every facet of the game. Furthermore...even if he pulls out of the defensive slump...there's really no reason to expect improvement from him. He's not some 22 year old 3b that just came up from AAA like Morel, even if he turns those yips around in the field, he's not producing wins any more.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:38 AM) You're opinion on him is based on one play? I've seen Derrick Rose make lots of boneheaded turnovers. No, just using that as an example. What positive did Jeff Green bring to the Celtics in this series? Or since he arrived? 8 points and 5 rebounds in 24 minutes (for this series) is worse than what the Bulls get from Taj Gibson. He doesn't shoot well, he doesn't get a lot of rebounds, and I've seen no one considering him a solid defender.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) You have no idea if that is actually true or not. Really, yes, we do know that is true. Juan Pierre flat out has lost the ability to catch baseballs. Adam Dunn in LF right now wouldn't be much worse than Juan Pierre. I think it's a mental thing. It's the "Yips" if you will. Every time a ball comes to his glove he's thinking about the 9 other times he dropped a ball this season and the ball bounds off his glove. Who cares if a guy has less range in LF if the guy with more range can't catch the ball?
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) Oh no, not you too... Do you think he is? At least one of the bonehead turnovers yesterday was on him, IIRC.
  15. At least the people running U.S. nuclear plants are intelligent, well trained, solid public servants who realize the importance of their positions and take a moment to think before they act, like all great businessmen. Otherwise, they might make the sort of incredibly bad decisions that led to the Japanese disaster.
  16. Although the CIA said that Bin laden was sidelined, Bush said he didn't spend much time on him, and the CIA supposedly closed down its Bin Laden group at the height of the Iraq war, the AP is reporting that the stuff seized strongly suggests Bin Laden was more than just a figurehead and was still actively involved in attack planning. Assuming that the general parameters of this leak are true...that means that this move to chop the head off the snake really was a big operational deal, and that the materials we grabbed are exceptionally valuable.
  17. Mike Huckabee fixes American History. The late 70's disco-thugs that Reagan saved us from certainly rule. I want to be one.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) Only 16!!! I think this might be the first time in recent MLB history that a team with a $100+ million dollary payroll was sitting on the same number of victories for the season as games back in the standings already on May 11th. Again...the 2010 Mets?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 11, 2011 -> 07:36 PM) Credit cards are simply a tool, not something to be feared. You know, I disagree a bit here...even though I'm good with mine, I still fear them, because I know that the issuer will try to screw me the first chance they get. For people who aren't careful with their purchases, they need to be even more scared. Fear is, at least for me, part of the motivator to cover all my bases on those cards and watch them constantly.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2011 -> 08:59 AM) That's how I am using it. They failed the sphincter text big time in that game. Absolutely.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 12, 2011 -> 08:47 AM) Yup, call up Viciedo, put him in LF, and DFA Pierre. It's really that simple. I'm fine with Rios or Ramirez leading off or even Vizquel when he plays. Almost anything that gets Pierre out of the lineup will improve the offense. As long as Juan Pierre is on this roster, he'll be starting and leading off for Guillen. The only way you can possibly make that change is to DFA him. If you sent down someone or DL'd Teahen, Viciedo would wind up starting at 3b sometimes and Pierre would still be the everyday LF.
  22. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 12, 2011 -> 05:09 AM) Nothing made me happier this series then seeing Big Baby Davis play terribly, there's a career bench player for you right there. To put it simply, the big trade that Boston made probably cost them this series. Green and Kristic really didn't do anything at all, and you'd have to think with Perkins in there, defensively they would be have been better, and the series would have gone to 6 or 7. The other problem with the deal is that Jeff Green isn't a very good basketball player.
  23. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ May 12, 2011 -> 08:30 AM) Pat Ruesse is a columnist, not a reporter. His reoccurring theme this year is the Twins are a bunch of pansies because they dont play through injuries. But there is not doubt about it, the Rochester Minnesota Twins stink this year. They cant score runs, and they chance they do score more than 3 runs, the pitching gives up more. Its hard to watch. I keep waiting for the season to turn a corner, but as we get toward the middle of May and the team floundering, its getting real hard to see things turning around You still have what, 17 guaranteed wins games against the White Sox left right?
  24. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 12, 2011 -> 12:33 AM) Is it too early to get excited bout JorDanks? I'm not sure I can be excited about him until I actually see him performing regularly in the big leagues. Not with his strikeout numbers.
  25. I think even when this thread was started everyone probably had a bit of dread about Oakland.
