  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 11:50 PM) I'm sure they could structure the contract so that it could be voided should it be proven that he was taking some form of illegal drugs. As for the issue of whether his past drug use has damaged his body such that it will cause an earlier decline in performance than an otherwise healthy player, you'd have to trust your medical staff on that one. Even though the latter is true...there's even more to it...he also went a couple years without doing normal MLB-level workouts, and then restarted them. I'm sure you know as well as I do that the time away from workouts can't be fully made up.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 01:19 AM) Better bat-flip? AJ's or PK's after that second bomb off Wood in '02? No offense to PK14...but TCQ had one hell of a bat flip.
  3. So do the Twins have anything on the way up in terms of minor league starting pitching? It seems like they've had the same batch of 5-6 guys as their starters since at least 2008.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 07:31 PM) But there's always the aspect of Young being more of a sure thing, even if he's overpaid. I was just pointing out that if this trade were to happen (for the Sox or any team) and the team receiving Young dumps a bad player and also gets some salary relief in return, then I'd say it's a fair deal. The real fact is...the Sox really don't have *That* bad of a contract that they'd be interested in dumping...except for Jake Peavy...and the team's shown no interest in dumping him. This isn't Jose Contreras 2007, at least not yet. Dumping Teahen gives savings that everyone has to admit are small at best.
  5. So, after a "productive" meeting just before the Super Bowl, the Owners and the Union canceled their remaining meetings for this week.
  6. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 07:08 PM) Oh I remember my third point! It's encouraging to me how much more rational the arguments on this board are than the crap you see in the news story's Comments section. Soxtalk rules! You're Hitler.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) Deron's a good guy...compared to the other two members of the big three from Illinois (Dee and Head), he's an absolute saint. I would say this is probably a case of fame getting the best of him. Lebron's a good guy, but the decision was just a case of fame getting the best of him.
  8. Maybe you need the Heimlich, to remove that chicken.
  9. I don't know how I didn't know this. The entire tourney will be broadcast on cable/satellite this year.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 05:18 PM) From now on I'll only eat sand and plastic. Silt and clay taste better.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) Mubarak refusing to step down. Wanna bet that just pisses people off more?
  12. Well, I guess we know who Miami's next PG is.
  13. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) What was Phil Jackson's latest stance on how much longer he'll be around? I ask because while Sloan doesn't really strike me as stepping into a plug-n-play championship team (if he even does coach again), if Phil leaves, Sloan has got to be on their (LA's) list. Phil should be gone after this year. He doesn't want to take a 1 year deal and get ready to coach again only to have 2/3 of the season lost to a lockout. (A quick labor agreement might well change that)
  14. One of the top Republicans in the Senate, John Kyl (R-AZ) will not run for re-election in 2010. This sets up a leadership fight; he's the #3 Repub in the Senate and people will want that job. Jim DeMint is probably a good bet. In terms of who will run...it's already being whispered that one "Rep. Gabrielle Giffords" has the right of first refusal.
  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) And he just signed a one-year extension on Monday. Definitely something happened between Monday and yesterday. Someone published shirtless photos of him that he sent to women on Craigslist.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) Without the players permission? Thats interesting. That would only be for a certain time-frame, right? After a certain period into free agency, I'd hope he'd be allowed to deal with other teams? That might make him want to avoid the Angels, its not like he HAS to negotiate. The player doesn't get to determine whether or not there is a negotiating window given...but the Player can flat out refuse to sign a contract in that negotiating window. A typical negotiating window is 72 hours.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) Heyman reporting O-Cab to the Indians. Ugh, that means we have to see that d-bag 18 more times. Well, the Indians are winning the Central.
  18. Kindly sing louder.
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:24 PM) politicians don't care if they get bribe money from someone who used to be a member of the other party. the main thing to them is that they get bribe money. No, but the lobbyists do care whether or not you've ever been a member of or been associated with the party they don't support. The K street project made sure that the lobbyists understood that.
  20. QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) I mearly stated that this is the kind of behavior that I applaud from politicians and hope both sides do this. One article talked about a zero tolerance from the GOP, I hope they continue and I hope the Dems follow along. Really, over the years, I certainly haven't gotten the impression that you have done that. First of all, if this is zero tolerance for the GOP, I'd hate to see their version of tolerance. Do you mean zero tolerance for extra-marital affairs if no money exchanges hands? (note, this is not an effort to defend any Democrat) Secondly, I believe we've heard over and over from you that it ought to be up to the voters to decide whether a person who has done non-illegal things like marital infidelity should be disqualified, not whether or not it draws national attention. Am I incorrect in that regard?
  21. Row 15, section 150, 4th of July. Fireworks yay.
  22. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) Rangers signed Josh Hamilton to a $24M - 2 year extension. per Heyman Does this just buy out his arb years?
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) Who would decide on that exclusitivity? (is that a word?) The Cardinals or Pujols? I really doubt Pujols would agree to that. He would not want to give up his freedom as a free agent like that. The league office has to agree to that, along with the 2 teams involved in the trade.
  24. Good points on the other names. I'll use the "8:30 a.m." excuse on that one. That said, Tex, where do you get the idea that somehow this puts the Republicans on a pedestal above the Dems?
