  1. Josh Howard signed a 1 year deal to return to the Wizards, something in the range of up to $4 million with incentives.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) I could see him being more valuable to an NL team and one of them giving up a little more. A team with a big OF should give up more for him than a team like the Sox. He's a desperation level addition for the Sox.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 08:19 AM) Can't wait to see entire weeks of baseball snowed out in MSP, DET, CLE, etc. Yeah...in a normal world, this would make that ballpark in Minny even more fun. Of course...one could also say that this is simply Bud Selig preparing MLB for the climate of the next 20-30 years, where it's probably gonna snow a lot less in April.
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 10:24 PM) Well, that is not what I expected the Tigers to do. I still see another, bigger, move coming from them. They're plummeting so fast right now that they need several moves to really hang with the 2 guys at the top, given all the injuries they've had. The White Sox have a significantly better offense than the Tigers on the season right now.
  5. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) Tigers got Jhonny Peralta. They're in free-fall at this point. They're pretty darn desperate.
  6. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) If he sticks with that, he won't have a problem. We just don't know that he will. This Bobby Jenks stays around the rest of the season, and we win the division and probably make a playoff push. Every team we'll be playing will have 6 innings to beat us.
  7. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:00 AM) If this deal comes off it is because Lilly wants to stay with the Cubs and the Sox will agree to not offer arbitration so the cubs can sign him back for next season without losing prospects. That would make any deal for Lilly even stupider for the Sox. Would Lilly actually be a type A free agent?
  8. Soxnet.net game wrapup.
  9. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 06:08 PM) Do you have a reason?! We haven't given you a baker's dozen of them yet?
  10. There is no argument that will convince me that less baseball = better.
  11. The Twins lineup is currently 5th in the AL in runs. The Sox are 8th and probably would be 7th if the Angels hadn't played 4 more games than us. They're a good lineup, but they're by no means putting up an awe-inspiring season like I thought they could.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) C'mon, Balta. No team would be able to cover everybody. But think about it. If any of our top guys went down, whether it be Rios, PK, Ramirez, s***, even Juan f***ing Pierre, what would the alternatives be? It'd be 2007 all over again. Point is...our #1 guy, the single most expensive player on our roster, has in fact gone down. We can't be in that bad of shape if we can survive that.
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) Exactly, if any of our big time position players goes down we'll be in trouble. How well would the Phils have survived their #1 starter going down?
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) That wasn't the question. The question was why was Rios at DH. and Jones in CF. And I agree with Balta, Jones has done a good job. Another question: could the resting of Konerko, Rios and TCQ allow them to be more fresh and have a better overall season as opposed to the lineup with someone like Thome full time at DH? If nothing else to probably has allowed TCQ to play more without lower extremity injuries. There is no way to know for sure just a question that popped into my ADHD mind. I think it's entirely possible that with Konerko and Quentin it's the case. Rios though...really hasn't sat all that much.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) How would PK feel about becoming the everyday DH? There's no way you'd waste Lee's glove at DH. Probably about as good as we'd feel about Quentin being the everyday RF.

  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) I agree with you, but ESPN has proven not to be the best at understanding things like how negative publicity works in recent years. Yeah, remember that time they gave Lebron James a full hour of time on their network to make him and them both look like arses?
  18. It's worth noting that he typically took 3-4 walks a month in the minors, except for June of last year, where he took 9. The guy who runs his AAP page kept up to date with most of his running monthly totals last year. He finished up last year with a total of 23.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) Is she invisible? She posted over here last night.
  20. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Oh cmon, the Phillies have been a better franchise, they are identical in playoff appearances, they have made the WS twice, and they have a much better farm system and it can be argued that they have a better MLB roster. You're comparing the Phillies and the Marlins and not noting that 1 team has a payroll of $140 million while the other has a payroll of $57 million (up from $14 million as recently as 2006)? That's as fair as comparing the Yankees and White Sox and saying that the Yankees are clearly the better franchise because they've won a world series this decade and have a lot more division titles and postseason appearances.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) The Marlins have been ok the last 10 years but not at the Sox level, they've had too many ups and downs. The Phillies have been coming on strong the last few years but weren't very good and probably awful before that. I still think the management combo we have is among the best certainly in the top 5. The phillies, let's also note...are spending more money than the Sox the last couple years. Their total payroll right now is upwards of $140 million.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Well see this is where the argument gets interesting. To me, the Twins have been a more succesful team than us in KW's time since they've won the division five times and we've won it twice (no wild cards for either side, only AL Central wild card in that time was Detroit in '06). Obviously we've got the trump card of the World Series in '05, but I'm not sure the fact that we found the right playoff combination in '05 (which I think doing is more luck than skill, considering it's teams that got there being great for 162 trying to be better in a best of 5 or 7) overcomes the Twins resume overall, even though it is a trump card. One thing worth considering though...even though KW came up through the org, for the first year/couple years after he took over, he was dealing with the hand he was dealt. That said, I don't see how you can argue that there has been a better run organization than the Twins over the past decade, in terms of doing more with limited and scarce financial resources. There's a reason we keep saying we want to play more like them.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) The issue is that Kotsay's getting almost all the PAs as the DH. You're not going to hear me defending that. I can defend Jones as doing an excellent job in his role as 4th OF/part time DH. I can't defend anything Kotsay has done this year.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Competition that gives us fits. Seattle took 3/4 from the Twins earlier this year.
