  1. Process of elimination suggests lidge will still close for the Phils. If the Phils get to the next round and Pujols comes up in the 9th and the bases are loaded and it's a 1 run game and Lidge is your last pitcher, do you walk him?
  2. I'm uncertain why you expect me to believe that heading in to the field is a bad thing?
  3. Excellent delivery of the non-apology it's all your fault apology
  4. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) It started with Busch Gardens in the late 1950s. Originally it was exactly what it sounds like — gardens adjacent to their Tampa brewery (beautiful brick facility that ceased brewery operations years ago). In time they added animals, and eventually they started adding rides and shows and such to draw more visitors. So that one sort of grew out of a logical beginning into the unlikely mega attraction it is now. Sea World was a portfolio acquisition, and AB had nothing to do with the creation of the park. Private entrapenuers (sp??) founded the Sea World parks in teh mid 1960s. Publishing giants Harcourt Brace Jovanovich bought the parks in the mid 1970s and it wasn't until the late 1980s that AB bought them from HJB, along with a few other parks that they either closed or sold off. Ok, Busch gardens kinda makes sense then. The other ones though sound like a company that is profitable deciding what to waste its money on.
  5. But didn't you just do exactly that?
  6. Zippy fast with the google search I am.
  7. Here's the NY times version of that exchange, if it makes 2k5 a little happier. I tried to find a Fox News article but they hadn't covered it.
  8. Did Cole Hamels give up 4 runs in the entire postseason last year?
  9. You know, now that I think about it, a serious part of me wonders why the Yankees didn't hold CC off until Game 2 and go with Burnett in game 1. The Twins were going to probably lose game 1 no matter what they did; The Yankees were better Rested, the Twins just got off a plane after playing 1 1/3 game in game 163 and were going to be totally spent, the Twins were going to have Duensing on the mound at best, whereas Blackburn and Baker come up in the next couple games. Burnett probably would have been good enough. The game the Twins really need to steal is game 2. They'll be rested, they'll have Blackburn on the mound, etc. If the Yankees had CC going tomorrow he could still have pitched game 5 back in NY on Normal rest as well. If the Twins steal game 2 tomorrow I'm going to think about this post again. Of course, the Yankees probably are just that good, but you never know.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) Two relief arms, or a proven closer. There is a big difference there when you are team trying to get back to the World Series. If the 2 arms work out, then that can put you a lot closer to the series than 1 closer. (Wow, look at the use of the word closer there). Anyway, Look how the Dodgers won their game yesterday if you want to see the value of Middle Relief.
  11. Why in the world did Anheuser Busch ever own theme parks?
  12. Xanthippe might be an accurate description of her if it was.
  13. There's a new interesting "Compromise" thought out there today on the public option idea, that might have a legit chance of persuading some of the waffling Dem Senators to not filibuster the thing.
  14. Not totally certain how to react to it but I don't think I like Scalia's line of thinking here. Basically, his argument is that the cross is not a Christian symbol.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) The Most Hopeless Franchise in Football And yet every offseason don't we get a surge of jealousy from fans of every other team when they land the top FA on the market for a huge deal?
  16. Tasers are totally nonlethal and safe and should be used on all septuagenarians.
  17. Do we have anyone here particularly good at copyright law?
  18. But there's no offseason for the alphabetical conversation thread!
  19. QUOTE (G&T @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 09:32 AM) Vlad won't be back. The rest will be harder. But I wouldn't doubt that they pay Abreu. I wouldn't be surprised if they do either. But I also wouldn't be surprised if someone offered him a 2nd/3rd year that the Halos weren't willing to match.
  20. Who from the AFL will KW trade for this year is my question.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) Abreu to the Sox assumes that the Angels don't want him back. Why wouldn't they? They would, but they also have other needs. They have as long of a list of FA's out of their regular players as anyone I can think of. Abreu, Lackey, Figgins, Darrin Oliver, Vlad.
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 07:15 AM) If i'm trading for any "prospect" it's Brandon Wood, and there's no way in hell i'm giving up our future #1 starter for him. Seriously, people are still talking about Brandon Wood? He's been putting up great numbers in AAA and bad numbers in the big leagues since I had like 50 posts on this board.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 08:46 AM) Um, we never even landed there so how will we get a bomb there? Very soon, you will see.
