  1. Overall impression and grade for Tim Anderson so far? Grade him based on the position he's been thrown into and what he's done to date in his brief MLB stint. I will say A-. I'm impressed by his range and decent arm. He's got a much livelier bat than I thought. Taking numerois pitches hard to RF has also been nice to see. Obviously he's very aggressive at the plate which is good and bad, but long term he probably needs more patience otherwise he will never walk. Too rosy of a grade? Considering many were concerned we pushed him into the spotlight too soon, it seems like he's handled it like a pro. Excited to see his career progress.
  2. This is semi-unrelated, but news is out that the Bulls are trading Derrick Rose to the Knicks. This essentially means the Bulls are rebuilding, so would Reinsdorf want both of his teams rebuilding at once?
  3. What in the he!! happened to this thread since last night?? hahaha
  4. My problem with trading a guy like Sale is more theoretical. You are highly certain (outside an injury) that Sale is worth X per year (WAR or whatever) for Y years. Even if you acquire a handful of high prospects the probability and therefore expected value of the prospects WAR ends up being a big risk. So to get equal value on an expected value basis, you actually have to get back a return such that the average return would warrant it, but if they all hit you'd be way ahead. This is necessary since the probability of any prospect "hitting" is far below probability of Sale maintaining his value. Moreover, you'd never do a deal where you'd need ALL the prospects to hit in order for it to justify the return. So maybe this is a dumb mathematical way of looking at it, but it's essentially scenario analysis. You'd trade a known quantity to get a range of potential outcomes. And given how good Chris is, they'd have to trade a ridiculous package (prob more than we even think) to warrant it from an expected value perspective.
  5. If it doesn't make the other side cringe, you DONT trade someone like Chris.
  6. Sale for Bogaerts/Bradley Jr and any two prospects ?
  7. What's with Robin always waiting to pull someone until they've totally created a huge jam?
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) If you want to do it half assed again, Robertson/Jones/Quintana/Melky If you want to really rebuild Sale/Abreu/Melky/Robertson. Either way probably fine to keep one of Sale/Quintana. Abreu would make sense due to age/cost. We are selling low though. Considering we do most things half-way, I would expect the former if anything!
  9. This has probably been addressed in the thread already, but IF we chose to be deadline sellers who would make sense to trade? Robertson? Anyone else?
  10. How would you guys rate Rodon's career so far? Both in absolute terms and given where he was drafted? I feel like we take for granted what he's done given going almost straight to the majors. Obviously he hasn't taken the league by storm but still solid IMO. I'm obviously a huge fan having watched him at my alma mater (NC State) and living a few miles from where he grew up.
  11. I'd probably trade any two prospects not named Anderson, but enough to get a deal done? Prob not.
  12. Would it make sense to make a run at Wil Myers? According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Padres are "open" to trading Wil Myers. Myers is well on his way to a breakout season at age 25 and he is under contractual control with San Diego through 2019, but Heyman says the Padres are "willing to talk about just about anyone" as they attempt another aggressive organizational rebuild under general manager A.J. Preller. Myers, an outfielder turned first baseman, is sitting on a .281/.321/.504 batting line, 14 home runs, and 39 RBI through 65 games this season with the last-place Friars. http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/mlb/504...LB:topheadlines
  13. Are people still worried about Anderson being brought up too early? Just kidding, like everyone else, I'm thrilled he's doing well so far. He's a breath of fresh air for this franchise.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) Former top International Prospect and part of Shark trade. That deal ended up being: Semien, Phegley, Ravelo, and Bassitt for 1 year of Samardzija, Michael Ynoa, and RHP Zach Burdi. Don't forget the Cubs as they end up winning the Samardzija trade getting Russell. I'm fine with Ynoa and Burdi and taking the chance of Shark that one year.
  15. Not many HS kids picked by the Sox I see? Or about average?
  16. Wow what a good eye he has. Watching the game today and he took close pitches really well. Trying to think who he reminds me of
  17. Good read on Fisher http://theadvocate.com/sports/latestsports...batting-average
  18. Wow this seems like such a change. TWO advanced college hitters drafted in the first 4 rounds? I LIKE
  19. Really surprised at all of the concern about bringing up Anderson too early. Look, the kid is not 18 years old! He's been playing pro ball for a number of years now. Do we think if he goes 1-16 he's going to fall into a deep depression and never recover? There's tons of young prospects that have come up to the big leagues with much less experience than Anderson and succeeded!
  20. The way I am coping right now is by not watching the games. At the current time I get too upset and frustrated and that's kind of ridiculous when you think about it. It's just sports! Easier said than done though, so I need a few day or week break from watching.
  21. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 10:42 PM) I would be furious if they traded off our most valuable pieces, especially so if Robin is still manager. Again, a couple more pieces and this team can finish the season strong. Bruce/CarGo and a bullpen piece...that's all it will take (and a new manager of course). There's a big divide here. I think a lot of people really believe this. Others of us think this is a 80-85 win team at best. I can see both sides but gut says were the latter. Mediocrity can be poisonous. You do just enough to keep you believing you have a chance, but siphon off talent and opportunity to get better LT.
  22. I'll probably get crushed, but if anything we should be SELLING not buying.
  23. I'm really going to puke if we give up anything substantial for Shields given his salary, age, performance, etc
  24. Law's latest mock 10. Chicago White Sox Zack Collins, C Miami I've heard them on Hudson, Robert Tyler and suddenly on Collins, but less on high school guys. 26. Chicago White Sox Gavin Lux, SS Indian Trail Academy (Kenosha, Wisconsin) Lux's market seems to be in this range, with the Dodgers and Blue Jays also heavy on him. The White Sox also have been linked to Robert Tyler.
  25. I just realized I'm getting physically nauseous watching this team lately. Feels like this streak will never end
