So then buy out his contract at the end of the season and be done with him. But as far as the rest of 2003 goes, the Sox are still in it (the way they're playing would indicate otherwise, though), and if Frank's bat gets hot, that would make a HUGE difference. Put the guy over at 1B for 4-5 games starting tonight and see what happens. If he's still going 1-4 with 2 k's every game, bench him in favor of Daubach or somebody else. And I don't disagree with you -- Frank has gotten paid 10's of millions to hit a baseball, and he should be able to do it regardless of where he's at between innings, whether it be in the dugout or on the field. But, that's ideally how it would be. The FACT of the matter is that due to something (being a baby, having no heart, having no brain, etc, etc), that is not how it is with Frank. The numbers do NOT lie.

"Mentally weak" or not, the man hits better when he's playing 1st. This is not debatable. As a manager, it's Jerry's job to give his guys the best opportunity to succeed, and if that means Frank playing the field, he's going to have to accommodate that.

Um...perhaps 13 years of stats supporting that idea have something to do with it? Duh. This year, .352 as a 1B, .234 as a DH, and for his career, his average is about 40 points higher as a 1B. Not at all saying that ratio would hold true if we move him back to 1B for a while, but it's worth a shot. We are going nowhere if Frank's average stays in the mid-.200's.

That is VERY surprising, since MB works so fast. I've always heard people say that the guys who work fast on the mound keep the defense on their toes and alert, and therefore play better D. Makes sense to me, but it doesn't hold true here.

Thank you for bringing some sanity to this thread. This Sox team may not win with Colon, but we CERTAINLY wouldn't win without him. He's a very vital part of this '03 team, and there are some people here that need to support him if they are true Sox fans.

Well Colon is now 10-11, and Buehrle is 10-12, she'll never badmouth Mark, and will always badmouth Colon. I just don't think it's fair to badmouth Colon even when he won 4 straight and had a sub 2 ERA, but not badmouth Buehrle when he started off 2-10. Whatever though, I really don't care now She won't badmouth MB because she personally knows his parents and has become great friends with them. So she's biased is what you're saying. HSC biased? If you didn't see the highlight, you HAVE to get to a TV and see this ending. The Orioles were down 5-4 in the 12th, and they hit a gapper with 2 outs and a guy on 1st. The guy, some 24 year old rookie, rounded 3rd, had the "go" sign, but for some reason stopped. He went to go back to 3rd, then slipped. He managed to get up, but the Yankees threw down to 3rd. The guy broke for home. The 3rd baseman gunned it to home, so the runner started back to 3rd. The catcher threw it to 3rd, and the runner broke for home again only this time, NOBODY........NOBODY was covering home plate. The guy had a 20 feet head start on the Yankee player with the ball, and the race was on...until the guy FELL DOWN. The tag was applied, and the game was over. My feeble description does not do it justice, as it's probably the funniest thing in sports that I've ever seen.

Um, "becoming"? Hate to break it to you, but s*** like this has been going on for probably 20 years now, but it's starting to be uncovered because there's an awareness about it. I like these people who think college sports are so much better than professional sports because "they play for the love of the game" and because it's "so much more pure". Those people need to open their eyes to what's going on around them, because the corrupt behavior at Baylor (a no-name school with no-name players) is just the tip of the iceburg.
