Crede still in pain after two years
Milkman delivers replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) Who can forget his 2005 World Series plays? Joe Crede was a real good player for about a year's worth of time, spanning from the last month of 2005 through most of 2006. Fixed. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) You heard me fool. I'm actually pretty shocked a guy with only 22 posts has this much of a history with what was said about him. I definitely have to disagree. He just seems like a child, grabbing all of the attention that he can. I certainly don't think he's made anybody look like a fool.

What should be the Sox focus in the offseason?
Milkman delivers replied to harfman77's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 08:07 AM) Because no other baseball team in the majors brings back old players to offseason gatherings. What a joke. With us, it seems like they're trying to score those extra sympathy/sentimental points because even they know they've become irrelevant since that title. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 06:27 AM) Absolutely. Straight owning some of these fools. Good entertaining read. I hope Bozzie post more in the off-season. (where I have a feeling it's gonna be alot of disappointment) What?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) Many of us agree with the analogy. It works on so many levels. I think I've been making that comparison for years, as have many others.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 12:16 AM) That says he might be able to stay if he drops Cora, Cox, and Walker. I'd replace them with Omar, Robin (3rd Base), and Frank, picking Frank because I can't think of anyone else. And man, Cowley sounds depressed in that article. That makes it true for me if anything. And while I want Ozzie gone...I really do wish it could have ended in harmony, or him staying. I might even not hate him being back if he dropped Cora, Cox, Walker. But it all fell apart when he didn't stop Oney. In my opinion, Oney has been his greatest downfall. And if anyone deserves a chance to be the hitting coach, it should be the AAA hitting coach (Laker?).

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 07:44 AM) Rivera's postseason numbers: 8-1, 0.71 ERA, 139.2 IP, 2 homers, 21 BB, 109 K But that one was oh, so sweet. Does anyone else think it would be cool if Rivera got just one more save this season and retired so that he and Hoffman would be tied? I respect both highly and it would just be the coolest ending to me.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) Jackson was a genocidal asshole. He was a lot of things, definitely not a great person. But one thing I can say about him and his personality is that he was a straight gangster. The guy did what he wanted, when he wanted to do it.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 06:12 AM) Sons of Anarchy was great again last night. I hope they keep up the momentum. This season is shaping up to be awesome. The main problem that I've had with Sons Of Anarchy (and I still love the show) is that there always seems to be a neat little answer to every single problem on the show that kind of appears deus ex machina precisely when needed. Two examples just from last night were the storage facility that Clay is buying from the rich guy and the Cartel showing up to save Jax and Opie. I'm already enjoying Danny Trejo's addition greatly, though.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:56 PM) I meant if that's the only criteria. Having to have had prior success before experiencing a down year or two. I look(ed) at it as a player that had virtually no success in the big leagues prior to having that breakout season as well. I don't think people realize how good Alex Gordon has been this year. Arguably the second best LF in baseball after that Braun character. Do they have a breakout player of the year award? That might solve it.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:21 PM) Well by that criteria, I agree. Been good, fell off the map for whatever reason, comeback. I've always looked at the award as the NBA's version of the most improved player. Maybe baseball should implement something like that. I mean, that is the name of the award and all But you're right, they've given it to players before that never did anything prior to receiving it. I guess it's the same difference between being the Most Valuable Player or just the flat-out best player.

What should be the Sox focus in the offseason?
Milkman delivers replied to harfman77's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) I think they should concentrate on bringing some big names into Soxfest taking everyone's attention off of what probably will be very little they do with the roster. We already know they're bringing back fan favorite, Joe Crede. It's just another depressing sign that they're clinging on to the past in order to cover up the joke they've become. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:09 PM) He's not the problem he's the solution. This team is losing despite having perhaps the greatest manager in the game. Loria is going to go broke buying WS championship rings when he brings in Ozzie. Ozzie's greatness is not questioned, I just wonder how you can think a team can finish below .500 with Ozzie at the helm? It doesn't seem possible to me. Ozzie is too good. You're on fire tonight

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) Last time I checked, guys don't win the award after winning the MVP or making the all-star team the previous year. Liriano, Giambi, Lee, Lidge, etc., have won the award in the past for, well, sucking ass or doing next to nothing of significance the prior year. If Gordon/Morse aren't worthy, who the hell is? But those guys had actually done something in the major leagues before that. Gordon and Morse were just crap since their rookie seasons.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) Two of my co-workers were on that Mir-2 research submersible trip in Lake Biakal with Putin in 2009 (see slide #33). Also, on looking at the Action Man photo set, I think I'm a little gay for Putin. Also, also, he would make a great classic Bond movie villain. Haha, that is so true. America hasn't had a leader as cool as that since probably Andrew Jackson.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) Not as badly as Manuel did...but he's clearly gone through some stretches in the last three years or so where you could have made strong arguments that he had lost the White Sox. For whatever reason, those teams in 2010 and 2011 pulled out of the 9-11 games under .500 area code and got back into those races. Maybe the talent just won out over such putrid play over an extended period of time...but you have to give Guillen some credit for righting the ships in 2008, 2010 and, to some extent, 2011, at the point when we were 11-22 and the entire season could have completely fallen apart. (And yes, I realize in hindsight...even Greg Hibbard backed this up statistically, the year was basically over by the first or second week of May, even if some wouldn't acknowledge it). Let's just say we crawled back to quasi-respectability. Which still isn't a positive benchmark with a $127 million roster in a, what seemed at the time, clearly wide open AL Central. Ugh, another thing I said people would be saying back in April as a potential reason to keep this guy around.
-
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) We really need a way to block users & when people quote said user I've been asking for that for a while.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) Are you trying to make a point here or something? I do like Ozzie Guillen. I think back on the days of Jerry Manuel and I think in his case he lost the team And Ozzie Guillen has not lost this team?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) I mean...I get it, Hudson doing what he did for us this year would have really made up for a lot...and maybe spending that $8 million might have helped... But when you add the phrase "going forward"...I think Zach Stewart will be a legitimately valuable piece for us. Very few people looked at Hudson and said "This guy is the next Verlander". He can be an upper part of a rotation pitcher, but he's not going to be the best ever. Stewart still is a work in progress...but he has legitimate upper part of a rotation ability. Sinkerballer who also can be effective with his offspeed stuff. That's yet to be seen, though. We are seeing Hudson live up to his potential as we speak.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) Reading Jim's article makes you believe he must be a psychologist. There is just so much any coach or manager can do. But, we all know there will be changes a coming this off season. Deserved or not there will be scapegoats and changes made When Jerry Manuel was fired, was he a "scapegoat" as well? Or did he deserve it? Does any manager that ever gets fired actually deserve it in your eyes, or are they all just scapegoats because no manager can be that big of a difference maker? If you can't even admit that Ozzie fully deserves to be fired at this point, and not just that he's a scapegoat, I truly believe that you are nothing more than a fanboy of his.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) Well, Hudson for Jackson was a short-sighted move if I've ever seen one. Oy, imagine how much better we'd look going forward if that trade hadn't been made.
-
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) I think it's incredibly easy after a disappointing season to see the wheels falling off in all directions. Really, the difference between a 75 game winner and a 90 game winner is sometimes 1-2 players. I'm confident the lineup and staff have enough major pieces to be effective next year, provided they perform, provided that we have new leadership, and provided we obtain some better complimentary pieces. This I can certainly agree with, especially the bold part.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 11:34 AM) He'll do anything for Sandler. Remember the gay open-mouthing kissing scene in Big Daddy? Yes, I do. I just can't stand his voice or the inflection, and it's magnified a thousand times intentionally for those commercials.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Milkman, the manscaper. Eh, it's not much of an ordeal to do. It takes about 2 minutes once a month with a trimmer.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) Hopefully everyone involved in that film is now blacklisted. I want to seriously injure the guy from the commercial who introduces the movie. The QB from the Waterboy.
