  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) Rays with 4-0 lead. Looking like a 2 game lead for Boston with 10 left. Boston: 4 vs Bal 3 at NY 3 at Bal Tampa Bay: 4 at NY 3 vs Tor 3 vs NY That's quite the uphill battle for the Rays. EDIT: It's only the 4th? Why would you assume they're going to win?
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) Its always Walker's fault when position players don't hit. It should be Cooper's fault if they don't pitch well. Its all Cooper when Humber pitches well, but when he gets lit up, its just because he sucks. I suppose what you are saying is Dunn and Rios, and Beckham are all on Walker, but if you look at it, guys like Pierre, Ramirez, Konerko, Quentin, Lillibridge, Castro, Morel, AJP have all performed at what you would expect, if not higher in a few cases. Of course, Peavy's skills have declined, but because Dunn is a hitter, you can't say that when you can just as easily blame the hitting coach. Walker will be gone at the end of this year, but if the roster remains relatively the same, you will see he was not the problem. I know you mostly say these things because you don't like seeing so much praise for Cooper while Walker gets nothing but crap, and I'm aware that this is a bit of a cop out, but there's a reason that Cooper is considered to be one of the best pitching coaches in the game. When Walker's gone, he likely won't find another job as a hitting coach.
  3. QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) i will fight greg to the death for the bat boy position. to. the. death. I laughed a little too much at this.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) It was a joke you weren't beforehand. You're alright, Ace
  5. QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) I don't follow the Marlins. Would they have room for Rios? If so, Ozzie and Rios, for nothing in return as long as the Sox don't pick up any salary. I read something about the Marlins being ready to significantly expand the payroll with the new Stadium. Haha, absolutely not.
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) Allowing for a dropoff over the next 2 years. Should have said 180+ innings. I see no reason to look for a drop off. He's been incredibly consistent with the innings. But, we did say similar things about Dunn...
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 10:30 AM) Was a typical Buehrle year. Given what he means to the fan base and the outlook for the pitching staff over the next 2 years his 190+ innings would be a nice stabilizer as they rebuild the staff. 2y/$20M? I know this is a little detail, but why did you say 190+? He's gotten over 200 every single year, and he is presumably going to do it again this season.
  8. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) C - Fisk 1B - Konerko 2B - Fox SS - Aparicio 3B - Ventura LF - Minoso CF - Lemon RF - Baines DH - Thomas Bench - Lollar (gotta have a backup catcher) Ordonez Durham Melton Allen (in all actuality I'd have to go with Allen over Konerko except for longevity) SP - Peters Wood Pierce Buerhle Horlen McDowell RP - Wilhelm Locker Thigpen Hernandez Gossage Going with the 6-man even in a theoretical scenario? Kind of sad that guys still can't stay healthy even in your imagination
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) I'll make the W.S. soxtalk roster. But in all honestly, it can go alot of ways with these posters. I won't count myself (if I would of, it'll be a scout) There are others who I missed and are deserving as well. (but these guys stick out more in my mind) (GM) Kalapse or qwerty Can't go wrong with either Kal or qwerty. By far the best all around. (Assistant GM) chw42 The "Rick Hahn" of the soxtalk assistant if you will. His saber knowledge (and contract negotiation in numbers) will be a nice 1-2 punch for Kal or qwert. (If Cheat was still posting here, he would've been the pick instead) (Manager) Steve9347, Papa Tru, or NUKE No doubt in my mind either of these three will run the club well. I personally lean more towards NUKE as he reminds me of the Lou Brown of soxtalk. (Pitching Coach) fathom or Balta1701 Two guys who will definitely watch out for my pitcher's arms and overall fatigue. Can be alittle anal with the pitch count, but I'll take that when those arms are still fresh come playoff time. (Hitting Coach) Dick Allen or BigSqwert I will shock the baseball world by hiring Greg Walker's favorite fanboy in DA. Scary thing is, I'll bet he would be a better hitting coach. Already has the username for it. And I'll admit, I picked Sqwert entirely of his name. Who wouldn't want Gordon Beckham sqwertin loads all over those center field gaps? BigSqwert will definitely unleash Slayer back. (Director of amateur scouting) Rex Hudler, Cerbaho-WG or Chisoxfn Long retired on these boards as the original scouts but any of them can be the directors of it. (Scouts) danman31, Ozzieball, JPN366, DirtySox, scenario The best in the soxtalk business. I personally think most of these guys fly under the radar too much. (International scouts) JoshPR, DBAH0, Flash_Tizzle I need my scouts to actually scout the other areas and I know these guys will do them well. Plus, other than Flash, (who will get a nice bonus to move out to the Dominican Republic for a while to scout for the next Liriano) they actually live in their respected countries so they have the time to closely watch on kid's potential. (Team trainer) ptatc The biggest no brainer out of any choice. (Team beat writer) SoxFan1, Milkman delivers or J4L I need a beat writer who tells it like it is. No bulls***ing with anybody. Doesn't get any better than these three. (I would personally lean more towards J4L for entertainment purposes. I would have added Gregory Pratt if he didn't scare me, but SoxFan1 can pick up the experience part of it, if he's the pick) (Sox insider) docsox24, RockRaines, spataro51 or bucket-of-suck Who wouldn't want either of these guys inside the FO news/rumors that 9/10 times proves to be true? (Southpaw) greg775, elrockinMT Two guys who will definitely keep the crowd into the game with their funny, optimistic ways. Down 10-0?! Wouldn't feel like it with these two in the stands! (Beer vendor) drunkbomber, witesoxfan or Heads22 A guy who will serve you beer already wasted?! (and will probably drink yours anyway?) I'll take that as my beer vendor. (Sox Historians) Tex, BigEdWalsh, FlaSoxxJim, YASNY There are a couple older posters as well, but I feel these guys have seen enough baseball in their lived to write some great stuff in sox history. Great knowledge. Woohoo, a mention! How egotistical am I that I didn't bother reading the thread, just searched each page for my name?
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 09:54 AM) Rocky Horror Picture show dual meaning. Ah, that explains why I don't get it. I never could make it through that whole movie.
  11. QUOTE (Felix @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) Agreed. Didn't really come close to the first Iron Man in my book. Of the Avengers movies, it ranks much closer to the new Incredible Hulk than the top. Hell, I might as well rank the Avengers movies. Iron Man (I'll give it the edge because it was the first one) Thor - - Captain America - The Incredible Hulk - - - - Iron Man II
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 09:27 AM) I wonder if Buehrle would go to the Cubs and play for the main rival of his two favorite teams? Cubs are going to be in the market for a lefty pitcher, as they're expected to go after 2 new starters. I can't picture Buehrle playing for them, but it makes more sense than him staying with Sox or going to Cardinals. I'm fairly certain that he'll be back. I can't guess at the details of the contract, but I'm just sure that they'll figure something out. He's a Sox for life guy.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 03:56 AM) X-Men/First Class and Captain America were arguably better than Thor. Hard to beat the first Iron Man, though. Hard to be much worse than Green Lantern, as well. I DID forget about First Class. It's definitely top 3 with Iron Man and Thor, IMO. At that point, it's hard to distinguish which was best.
  14. I thought Captain America was just pretty good.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 07:18 AM) For the first time in years the Cardinals have some expectation of depth. 'Waino’ (Wainright) and Carpenter should project for a combined 400 innings even if the club handles Wainwright gingerly post-surgery. Jaime Garcia is locked up for 4 years. Jake Westbrook and Kyle Lohse are under contract through 2012 for about $20 million combined. Kyle McClellan, Lance Lynn and Brandon Dickson offer alternatives, though the arbitration-eligible McClellan may fit better in small-market rotation. The Cardinals love what Edwin Jackson has provided since his July 27 acquisition; however, the Cardinals are all about short-term contracts given their current posture. Seems like there's not a place for him (Buehrle)...or they would have to trade Lohse, and that would make their rotation (with the Carpenter signing) way too expensive to even dream about bringing back Pujols. Read more: http://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/rou...l#ixzz1YCvNK9Mb Exactly my point. I wish people would stop talking about Buehrle to St. Louis, because it isn't happening.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 02:00 AM) I hope you are joking. You can normally do better than resort to calling a human being a "piece of trash." Weak. As a manager, he's trash.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) With the Sox luck, if they trade Mitchell he'll become the next Rock Raines. Looks like the Sox sold their soul to the devil for 05 with the bad luck since then and last 2 horrible seasons. Exactly. How else would we have won a championship with that piece of trash manager, Ozzie Guillen?
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) Not that simple. 99% of the fans never wanted to see Lillibridge get another AB after last year. Exactly my point. Don't listen to the fans. Do what's best for the organization, which was to get rid of Ozzie a few years ago.
  19. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) By the end of Game 3 of the world series, we had it all wrapped up in my mind, and perhaps before that even, yet there was still the last game to be played. I went to school far from Chicago. I was wary, but other people kept telling me it was in the bag. I didn't believe it until that last out.
  20. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 10:03 PM) Maybe now is the time to let go of Mark Buehrle. I know that he has been such a consistent starter for us and a great guy. It isn't an easy decision. However, he has looked very bad the last few starts. These starts were on four days rest. He definitely was pitching better earlier in the season and the six man rotation helped him a lot. Maybe this is the point where MB starts to decline. He has thrown a lot of innings and something like that could catch up with him at some point. We also have many young players that we can feel into an open starter spot including another lefty (Sale). And since MB would want to play with STL if White Sox don't sign him back. This would be the perfect opportunity since STL will be looking for starting pitching over the offseason. Not signing Buehrle allows us to extend Danks. And then his spot could be filled by Sale. Thus a rotation would start to form around Sale, Peavy (going to questionable again whole next season), Danks, Floyd, Humber, and Stewart. ..and a few other guys could get a chance. I thought I'd heard that the Cardinals' rotation was already set for 2012?
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) Promote Jeff Bajenaru Club: 1. Rockraines 2. Milkman delivers 3. Pastime 4. Sox Hustler 5. NUKE_CLEVELAND 6. knightni 7. ScottPodRulez22 8. SoxFan1 9. Jake He posted here, what can I say?
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) I rented Thor on wednesday, I really enjoyed it. Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkins played their parts very well. Hemsworth was good, but TH and AH stole the show Thor was second to the first Iron Man for superhero movies in the last few years. And it was close.
