Realistic Adam Dunn expectations
Milkman delivers replied to DOWNTOWN PANTHER's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 29, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) Not going sends a bigger message. A stadium of 9K would open up Jerry's eyes. I was being facetious. I've already said that I won't be going to any games this season (unless I get free tickets) until some big changes are made. -
Remember how people kept saying that "it can't get any worse" over and over again? It continues to get worse.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 29, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) If anybody could do it. I know Reynolds broke it two years ago. 223 I believe. And you know Ozzie won't bench him. So it's possible. I just checked his pace. Over the course of 162 games, he'd come out to 230something. With the games that he missed, he'd probably actually come in just under the record. A couple more golden sombreros might just fix that, though. If you're going to lose, you might as well do it in style. -

So wait, is Dunn on pace to break the record for most K's in a season even after missing quite a few games? -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 29, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) Wow is this an epic failure when this is the guy you bring up....the Jeff Gray decision is making this organization look like fools and no I do not think Jeff Gray is anything above average but he was doing his job with the Sox. Danks should have been left in there for another inning and Harrell should finish this game no matter the result and be immediately sent down for another arm. Accountability.

I'm tempted to buy tickets to the next home game for the sole purpose of booing him. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) The old Tiger stadium was really short down the lines and power alley. The overhanging upper deck stole a lot of high fly balls too. I meant from this decade.
-
Looks like it IS Danks that deserves to be relegated to the bullpen. Ugh, we just can't win. I'm starting to actually believe that the years of no offensive support have taken a mental toll on him.
-
To be fair, we have no idea what Milledge would be doing for this team.
-
QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ May 28, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Yeah, I remember that game... kinda. Each team hit six, it was in Chicago. Pretty sure its been at leas 7 years, but I could be wrong. You sure it was at Comiskey? I thought it was in Detroit because I think I remember it being odd since it happened in such a large stadium.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 28, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) Same, wish I didn't pay to see that. That was really lazy film making. Yes, it seemed like every single joke from the original was recycled. And the whole time, I was waiting for Bill Clinton's cameo. Then I get home and check why it didn't happen, and apparently that was just a big rumor because there were pictures of Clinton meeting the cast.
-
I think the Sox tied or broke that same record (most combined homers in a game) in a game against the Tigers again a few years ago.

Yeah, the Hangover Part II was just decent. It was worth a viewing, although it might just be better to catch it on DVD or TV. I didn't laugh out loud really at all.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 27, 2011 -> 07:07 PM) The hell I'm talking about is I watched the interview from which the quote was pulled and Ozzie was speaking about any of the 6 candidates when referring to warm up time. It's even obvious in the article. Read it again. No matter what you say, "If Humber has to go there, that’s the way it is" is a direct reference to Humber.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) My argument has honestly been that Humber has been the best starter, and thus should remain in the rotation. However, that should not be confused with me saying he must remain as such to stay in the rotation. That is not a circular argument. You are absolutely correct. The argument has been completely one-sided with you being correct at every point.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 27, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) BTW, Ozzie's quote was NOT a direct reference to Humber, but you guys seem to love to freak out, so have at it. The quote mentions Humber by name, and it's a direct quote from Ozzie. What the hell are you talking about?
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) Your argument is that since he cannot possibly be THIS good, he should be put in the bullpen. Do you realize how ridiculous of a position that is? Even if he does regress a bit, he would still be outperforming our entire starting rotation...why the f*** would you put him into the pen? I understand that I'm seen as the polar opposite, but some people will defend every single thing the organization does as being the very best decision possible. I am only half sarcastic when I say that Ozzie could piss directly in some people's faces and they'd defend it.

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 26, 2011 -> 05:42 PM) answer me this: fair catch in football. what's the difference here? there should be a rule against blocking the plate. might suck when you lose a game like that, but it could save careers, and that's more important in the long run. It's hard to make a correlation between two sports. The catcher can just not block the plate. Making a rule to prevent it would be overkill.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ May 26, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) Sorry, I thought Pale Hose Talk was open for "Also get the latest news, speculation, and all of the info you can use on the Chicago White Sox". Next time I will take my actual baseball talk elsewhere, and keep my "The Ghost of....", "f*** this mother....", "WCIU games are now available in space", and "Groundskeeper talk" posts for this site. That's speculation as in actual speculation, like from baseball writers saying that there have been talks between the two teams. If it were speculation in the sense that you mean, the entire board would be filled with thousands of threads suggesting that the Sox acquire thousands of various players. And in reference to your idea that a move to U.S. Cellular would be an answer to his woes, we've thought that about several players. It just doesn't seem to work that way. In fact, most players come here and are somehow worse. They might hit for more power, but their other stats usually suffer.

Why not? The official "Alex Rios Sucks" Thread
Milkman delivers replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 26, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) Danks 2 would probably be worse at the plate (which is pathetic for how Rios is hitting right now), but he would deliver the same or better defense and for $11.5 mill less at least, just sayin'. I honestly don't believe Jordan Danks will ever cut it on this team. He'll get his shot, but I'm sure it won't last. I'm pretty confident that he was only drafted and continues to get the push he's receiving because of his brother. Once John is gone and they are forced to accept the fact that Jordan is no longer of any use at all, he'll be gone. -
We don't need another guy who needs to fix himself offensively. About 8/9th of our starting lineup on any given night already has that problem.

Why not? The official "Alex Rios Sucks" Thread
Milkman delivers replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chisoxt @ May 26, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) Would it not have made more sense to tie up this wasted money in player development? I have never seen this organization, supposedly one with limited financial resourses piss away sqaunder so much money and get so little back in return. Their player development is so awful, they have to overpay enormously just to get back replacement level talent. What's interesting, is that before the 2009 season began, Sox management explained their lack of off season moves on the fact that the economy was awful and that revenue streams would be drying up. Then, inexplicably, they go out during the season and make the peavy and Rios moves. So what happened, from an economical standpoint to change their minds? Sad but true. We have to pay Rios a ton of money just to field well, as we can't produce even a non-horrible CF. -

The Ghost of Jim Thome is Killing Us
Milkman delivers replied to Jerksticks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 26, 2011 -> 11:51 AM) Do you have a counter for all of these things? Because it's obvious you forgot to do some fact checking. Thome hit as many grounders as he hit fly balls in his career and the trend was generally the same his time here in Chicago. You made it sound like grounds into more double plays than Konerko, but he had seasons of 4, 10, 18, and 8 GIDPs from 2006 to 2009. Konerko during that time? 25, 21, 17, and 15. Singles accounted for 52% of Thome's hits while he was here in Chicago. So basically, he hit more singles than home runs and doubles combined. Thome didn't pull the ball all the time. In fact, he had more hits to center and left field (291) than he had to right field (183) during his stint with the Sox. Thome's numbers with RISP: 2006: .339 2007: .313 2008: .306 2009: .253 He's not the reason the Sox pitchers faltered in 06 during the second half of the season. He's not the reason why the bullpen blew up in 07. He was part of the reason why the White Sox won the 2008 division title. He was not the reason the White Sox choked in 09. You can think whatever you like, but there's nothing wrong with having a hitter who can only hit for power and draw walks. Jim Thome is a Hall of Famer who produced very well for the Sox, you can't blame him for his teammates' failures. Ha, that argument just got pissed on.
