The Ghost of Jim Thome is Killing Us
Milkman delivers replied to Jerksticks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 26, 2011 -> 11:27 AM) Na, just another reason people grasp to turn a blind-eye to his overall uselessness. I don't care if it was one of the greatest hits this team has ever seen. It's still bad baseball, and in this newly formed pitcher's era, it ain't gonna fly. I don't want to get into a personal argument, but if you think the guy with the eighth most home runs in the entire history of the sport is useless, then you're not worth arguing with. -

QUOTE (Brian @ May 24, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) Great write up on Savage by Simmons. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/110524 Is that DiBiase receiving the elbow drop in your sig? If not, who and when? -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 26, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) It's bringing it up because it was Buster Posey who was injured. If this were Henry Blanco or Chris Snyder it barely would have been mentioned. Is it a smart idea to block the plate? That is certainly debatable. But I don't think this necessitates any sort of rule change. It's unfortunate, especially since he's such a promising, young player, but injuries happen in every sport. Yeah, something like a rule change would be f***ing terrible, IMO. If a player chooses not to block the plate, that's fine (although he'll deservedly get crap). But to make the action illegal? Ugh, that would lead to even more pussification of this sport. The last thing I want is for baseball to become more like basketball, a sport where you have almost zero chance of getting hurt unless you cause the injury yourself. One of the things I hate most about basketball is the cockiness of the players that seemingly believe they're the toughest guys on Earth, although they play the least physical (in terms of collisions/bodily harm) of almost any sport in the world.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 26, 2011 -> 10:47 AM) Pirates 4 was ok. The action scenes didn't feel like action scenes. No quick edits and were kind of slow. Things just seemed to happed and felt too convenient. Better than 3, not as good as 1 and 2. It doesn't seem necessary. It seems like a complete money-grab. I'm sure the second and third movies were money-grabs as well, but it seemed like they at least had a plan to make it a trilogy and stop there. They just couldn't resist the easy money. I feel the same way with the Shrek movies. That fourth one was terrible, and the third wasn't very good (could say the same thing about Pirates). With both series, it was as though the fourth one came out of nowhere when they seemingly wrapped everything up in the third installment, plus both had very little excitement behind them. Instead of hearing "Ooh, they're making a new ____ movie!", it was "Oh, they made another ____ movie and it's coming out next month." QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) Exactly. I just want to hang with these dudes for two more hours and laugh my ass off. I think your sig was scarier when Dunn's eyes were black.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 26, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) Of course, as soon as they start hitting, the starting pitching will go in a slump too. Then they will lose 8-6 instead of 2-1. Oh, that's what I've said I expect. This team never seems to click all at once. -
QUOTE (T R U @ May 26, 2011 -> 03:45 AM) We need to bring up Hot Fire so he can hang with his boyz The Wiz and Ramon Noodles Hahahaha

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2011 -> 07:50 AM) Happy Birthday to Kyyle and Juddling for sure, but Milkman? Ugh. How they haven't fired his mom for her years of complete failure raising him, I have no idea. She is easily the worst parent on Soxtalk. We need to DFA him and recall a poster from the ESPN boards. That family is a complete fail and they all need to be fired. Haha, nice QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 26, 2011 -> 08:16 AM) Thanks for the birthday wishes all, and happy birthday to Milkman and Juddling too. The Soxtalk Legion of Doom celebrates another awesome birthday together I'm not sure I like that. Is one of us going to die and another get crippled? -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 25, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) J4L rule #1: Juan Pierre is to never be complimented. Even on the rare occasion he does something positive. Rule #2: Make fun of and mock Wite at all times. Rule #3: Don't use words I don't know the meaning of. I've never heard that word in my life. Somebody doesn't watch Family Guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPWQVGBVXKI And for the record, StrangeSox was really, really, really correct. -

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 25, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) Milkman, if you are going to be the most over the top outspoken poster, you should expect people to respond to your posts. Unless you just like to hear yourself talk, in that case I will stop commenting. The thing is that you normally ask a question you already know the answer to, such as in this thread, in order to nitpick a very small aspect of the post. Today it was probably the fact that I said it was "laughable" instead of "obvious to all of us that watch every game."

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 25, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) Even if their stats are pretty similar this season, Danks has a track record of being a very good pitcher while Edwin doesn't. To me this isn't a very hard decision and would have already been made if it wasn't for Edwin's contract. I was purposely avoiding that aspect of the argument since I've also argued that Pierre needs to go despite his career numbers. Of course there are other factors such as age and diminishing skill sets that would still favor Danks and work against Pierre, but I didn't even want to open that can of worms.
-
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 25, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) Look at their stats, and tell me how one appears to have laughably outpitched the other. I will look for Kalapse's post on that. You know the stats don't always tell the whole story. And I'm sure you know that Danks has been better than Jackson. OK, I shouldn't have used the word "laughably," but we all know that he's been better. Jackson could give you a stellar performance, or he can put the game out of reach in the first two innings.
-
Is there an actual chance that Danks is unliked by his teammates? Even I think the idea is a little absurd, but the guy never gets run support. And it isn't just this year. It's every year.
-
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 25, 2011 -> 01:27 PM) Why do you think he has pitched worse than Danks? Their numbers are very similar except for the records. Jackson will have a great game and then a game where the team has no chance. It sort of evens out to make the overall numbers look pretty decent (Javier Vazquez syndrome). Look at Kalapse's post in the Catch-All regarding Danks and it'll explain what he's done in greater detail. Although I'm sure you already knew the answer to this. You just seem to pop up with random comments to my posts for which you already know the answer/response.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2011 -> 01:24 PM) The problem with putting Jackson in the bullpen is having someone actually make the decision to put Jackson in the bullpen. Oh yes lol, I completely agree. If Williams refuses to DFA Peña due to pride (yes, just my opinion), there's no way he's going to allow Jackson to be sent to the bullpen. It'll be Humber. As undeserved and retarded as it'd be, it'll be Humber.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2011 -> 10:59 AM) The Problem is...the 2 guys who have pitched themselves into a bullpen stint are Jackson and Danks, not the guy you want to pitch himself there (Humber). I certainly don't think Danks has pitched himself into the bullpen. I find that quite laughable, to be honest. What's the problem with putting Jackson in the bullpen? He's hurting us the most as a starter and they cannot get rid of his contract (they certainly won't drop him from the team). If they can get something for him, they probably should. Otherwise, I think he can actually work out decently in the bullpen. He's got the stuff to just let loose for an inning or two. He certainly couldn't be much worse than Peña.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 25, 2011 -> 10:42 AM) The only things keeping him around is his ability to throw hard and Kenny Williams' pride. We should have DFA'd him instead of Gray. We might still have D.J. Carrasco if it wasn't for Pena. I'm confident that it's all this.
-
I did not stay up to watch this game, but Tony Peña needs to be designated for assignment. He brings nothing to this team, he subtracts. We have a long road ahead of us and we can't afford to let this guy cost us any games.

Like. Great post.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) Wow. It was well-documented that Guillen and Cabrera butted heads all season long, and Cabrera had to be reprimanded for b****ing about error calls. "Well, for the very reason that Alexei [Ramirez] is at shortstop and one of the kids will be the second baseman, I don't think Orlando wants to come back on an arbitration offer and be a utility guy," said Williams. I remember the tone of that quote as well. Kenny was telling the All-Star shortstop to take a hike. Yeah, the tone was that "You better decline arbitration because you'll just ride the bench all season." -

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 24, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) I don't know if you think you're communicating via osmosis, but the topic of your thread is the Official Alex Rios Suck thread, you've done nothing but make lists of poor signings, and the only signing you have mentioned in a non-negative light is the Adam Dunn signing. I don't think this is a reading comprehension issue as much as you not knowing how to respond to valid points, so you lash out like an 8 year old like you always have. Buddy, I think that's you. You're the one saying that people are "stomping their feet" and "b****ing just to b****" in response to clear evidence that KW hasn't done a very good job in the last few years. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 24, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) At this point you're just stomping your feet and throwing a tantrum. You offer no real solutions other than change for the sake of change. You have proposed no plan for which this rebuild should occur. You've identified no takers for these salaries, no potential targets to trade our valuable chips for, and no timetable for which this should all occur. No amount of progress made is good enough, even when we've been unbeaten in 6 consecutive series' with over 110 games remaining. You b**** when we lose, you b**** when win. Have to love baseball fans... Do you want me to put together an essay of every single possible trade scenario/draft pick/free agent signing/front office hire? I don't have the resources to have any clue what other teams would want from us. A post like that would just turn this thread into one of those useless "We should trade ____ for ____" threads. We'd start by firing KW and replacing him with Hahn. He would then replace Ozzie with someone (likely Cora for the rest of the year if it's done in-season, and then from a list of available candidates), hopefully Dave Martinez or any guy that's not an old-fashioned "gut" guy like Guillen. You continue to say that I just stomp my feet and offer no solutions. I constantly give options (DFA Pierre to bring up Viciedo, keep Milledge instead of Lillibridge, keep Gray and DFA/trade Peña for anything). I've become confident that you don't even read the entirety of my posts, just believing each to say "FIRE OZZIE DFA DUNN PUNCH DANKS IN THE PENIS!" -

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 24, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) So what if this team were to win the division? What would your opinion be then? Just making it isn't enough. They could stumble into the playoffs as in 2008, get demolished, and it'd be a failure still. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) Who cares? Adam Dunn WILL bust out of his funk; I don't think his lack of production over this month and a half should even be considered when we talk about firing Kenny. He's built himself quite the resume of failure, no need to add Dunn to his other very fireable offenses. The point is that he's done plenty to be fired, yes.
