Schaumburg Flyers evicted from Alexian Field
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) Can't speak for everyone in my area but I'm about 10 minutes from Alexian and I would go to a s***load of games if the Sox put an affiliate in there. I think a lot of Sox fans in the area would. Especially since getting to The Cell is kind of a b**** from around here. Which brings up the point StrangeSox brought up earlier.

2011 Films Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) Obviously the entire movie required significant suspension of disbelief (as do most sci-fi movies) so the rules being ridiculous wasn't a huge issue, but it is absurd that if you die in the dream but you aren't sedated you wake up, if you die in the dream and are sedated you go to limbo, and then if you die in limbo while you are sedated or in a coma or whatever you wake up? It was an entertaining action movie with some cool visuals and I give credit to Nolan for at least not creating formulaic movies but I just don't think it was a masterpiece like a lot of people did. I totally agree about it not being a masterpiece. I understand the part about waking up if you die in a dream. It also makes some sense to go to limbo if you die in a dream because you can't wake up out of a sedative. The part that baffles me, though, is waking up from limbo by dying. How does that take you out of the sedative when it didn't in the regular dream? That's about the only real question I had with the movie, but I'm fine with it.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) I agree with everything in this post. I enjoyed the movie, but the rules for the dreams were frankly ridiculous and I love that even though there were two sets of actors credited for the kids that people still argue that the kids were the same at the end as they were for the other sequences. I won't hold the rules being ridiculous against the movie. The concept of the movie requires it to be absurd, so at least they followed their own rules. It just seemed odd that dying in one dream while under sedation would result in going to limbo, but dying in limbo brings you back.

Everyone loves it but me
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) I'd certainly place George as the most technically proficient of the three by quite a bit, but there simply is no Beatles without the never to be equalled Lennon/McCartney collaborative songwriting. That sounds pretty reasonable, and Harrison is my favorite Beatle.

I also saw Inception a few weeks ago and forgot to mention this. Why is there so much debate about the movie? I don't think it was nearly as convoluted or up-in-the-air as people seem to think it was.

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Mar 3, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) The Social Network - perfectly entertaining, but not extraordinary in any way. And the lead actor is just playing himself. No great acting feat. I completely agree with this.

Jake Peavy Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 2, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) Because subconsciously you forgot that Peavy's first name was Jake since nobody refers to him by his first name anywhere (even though it is in the thread title...I read it as "Peavy Thread"). It's almost always Peavy and every now and then it's JFP. Atleast, that is why I didn't get it. You may be on to something there.

Most Remarkable Sports Moment
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 2, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) Ugh, I knew people would say the Miracle on Ice. It was a game, not a moment, thats why it doesn't count. They celebrated a huge victory, like teams do all the time. The commentary made it legendary. But to each his own, I suppose. I do love that Michael Johnson 200m race as well. Those gold shoes were incredible and I do remember watching that. I said the "closing seconds" of the game, which would be a moment. Another one that stands out in my head, even though I was very young, was Paxson's 3-pointer against the Suns.

I wasn't around, but I can't even imagine what it would have been like to watch those closing seconds of the miracle on ice live.

2011 Films Thread
QUOTE (qwerty @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 08:46 PM) Yes, i had been wanting to get to it ever since kalapse asked if i had seen it. I ended up seeing it several months back, and i would agree that it was an extremely well done piece of cinema. But once more, some people just can't handle subtitles, and they miss out on excellence. I read some forums after i saw the film (as i always do), and that was good for a laugh or several. The political views on imdb are always gold. Hell, just about anyplace in reality. About four years ago i was reading a thread there in which a japanese girl claimed to be 5'3 and 78 pounds. She was going on and on about how anyone over 92 pounds is obese and not worthy of living. Americans disgusted her to no end. I read over 20 pages worth of arguments that occurred after that. Why? She believed what she was saying 100%, with absolutely zero intention of trolling. I was looking at a pretty obscure tv series when i came across her, and for the life of me i can't recall what it was, which is what annoys me, because i almost don't believe what i read was real. Btw, has anyone seen tucker & dale vs evil by chance? I don't watch a lot of movies with subtitles nor do I avoid them, but I find they actually get me into the movie a little more. In regards to IMDB, I never use their discussion boards or ratings anymore. The rating system for Netflix is so spot-on after all of the rating I've done that it is unnecessary to go to IMDB other than to see the names of actors and the awards.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) IF you watch his interview, that's one of the "many" (although in this case, two examples) of offers he has... they are trying to get him to do Major League 3. Didn't they do a Major League 3 already? It was awful, but I'm pretty sure they did.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 04:05 PM) Onions prepared in any way? Because I absolutely love sauteed onions on a burger or steak, but raw onions don't do it for me on a burger. I don't mind a few chopped onions on a chili dog, but any more than "a few" and it becomes overpowering. And I absolutely love onion straws (like a blooming onion) but really don't like onion rings. Basically, too much raw onion flavor can ruin a dish, but just a hint of it or have them cooked until all of the sugars come out of them makes for some tasty food. Onion rings (and blooming onions) are fine, but that's because they no longer have any onion flavor.
