  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 12:36 PM) The acting is pretty good actually, especially from the leads. The problem with the show is that it's not what I expected it to be. It's in the Law and Order mold with one major plot line (going after the Alderman) - every episode has X crime that's amazingly solved/worked on by the same 5-6 cops. Lame. I wanted it to be a character driven show about those 5-6 cops bringing down or trying to bring down a corrupt politician. I don't care for the weekly crime solving. I'll continue to watch with hopes that it's going to get better. It still has it's moments, like the voice overs, and the ending to last night's episode made it a little more "dirty." We'll see. Jury is still out for me. That sounds like how Justified started. The first few episodes didn't seem to have any major plotline to follow, just the character solving a crime on each show. I stopped watching because of that, and apparently it got better and better after I stopped lol. Perhaps that's what will happen with this show.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) If you say so. Humber is horrible and will be an automatic loss whenever he takes the mound. I could be in the running for the 5th spot and Coop or Merkin or Ranger will talk about my upside. I ignore anything and everything fluff related in Feb/March. But that's what happens when you have zero organizational depth. So if Humber (or any of the automatic loss AAAA guys) wins a single game this year, does that mean you have to shut up about it?
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) Anyone else getting bored with Chicago Code? I haven't watched a single episode because it looked way too cheesy and badly acted. It seems that nobody is continuing to watch it, so it probably won't make it past or through this season.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 11:52 PM) Have had my pup for about 10 days now. Ran into my new neighbor with him today. She offered her babysitting services and gave me her number. Turns out she is a dancer at Spearmint Rhino. Good dog, good dog. This is the beginning of a porno, you lucky rat bastard. That seriously can work.
  5. I'm such a contrarian that I hate almost all of the things you people have already mentioned, and I couldn't even think of all of the stuff I hate. I can tell you the thing I hate the most that a lot of people seem to love: onions. They are on everything if you don't specifically request that they not be. I'll throw out entire plates of food if there are onions in it if they can't be picked off easily, like if they're chopped up. One bite of a single little onion piece and I'll no longer stomach the food.
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 06:24 PM) If he starts asking for it he can only expect it. The point is, it would hurt the Sox big time if they were the team that ordered the pitch that hit Morneau in the head and ended his career. You're talking major media drama distracting the team not to mention killing the team image. No thanks, go dominate them on the scoreboard to prove your rivalry dominance. You seem to be implying that the Sox would intentionally be hitting him and that the media would run with that story. Nobody is advocating that.
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) I do plan on seeing them all. I just was saying that the fact most of them did not get me out to the movies, in my opinion, showed that it was a weaker year. May I retrospectively go back and change my mind? Sure. The only movie of the list that I have not seen that I wanted to was Black Swan. So...you basically want to judge a book by its cover?
  8. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Feb 26, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) And yesterday. There were like 7 posts yesterday. Yankees/Phillies today if you need a quick fix. Tell me about it. I went away Friday morning through this morning without checking Soxtalk once. There was hardly anything new.
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 05:46 PM) Good thing your opinion doesn't affect me. Just too bad Ozzie didn't say Hot Fire first, or you'd be buying t-shirts. I don't like Bacon as a nickname either, so don't lump me in with everyone else because I don't think your embarrassingly terrible nicknames are any good.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) It all depends on how he hits... Nice.
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 01:26 AM) Um...well....I never had a competing nickname for Alexei or Gordon, so he won that by default. He was awfully lazy with Viciedo's nickname, and The Mole for Morel is pretty bad. Sooo, in my opinion, Viciedo's is the only one where we both had good nicknames, but again, his was awfully lazy. Also, I'm not convinced that the person who has said each nickname hasn't had an impact on how people perceive it. Ozzie could call Morel "The Carpet" and there would be a group of people who would like it. Oh come on! I'm not trying to be mean, but "Hot Fire" is the worst nickname I've ever heard. And I mean the worst.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 26, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) Jake Rowengartner Henry!
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 26, 2011 -> 08:06 AM) Oh come on, putting a player in danger like that who has had the injury history that he has is just a bad idea all around. There are plenty of pitchers who could deliver the right pitch, but there are plenty of factors that could go wrong and it's a risk you just don't take in this situation. And when he starts crowding the plate and crushing pitchers because he never gets brushed back anymore, they should just bend over and take it.
  14. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 25, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) Did I miss the part where somebody suggested intentionally beaning him? Exactly. I just don't think he should have an easier go of it (not having to worry about being brushed off) because he was injured before.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) I liked Inception, but admittedly the only other nominee I saw was True Grit. When I think about Best Picture, I add into the category "uniqueness". The reason I never saw the King's Speech is because Ive already seen so many historical period pieces (especially about World War II) that I just would rather actually see the real history. Im sure that it was a very moving tale about a Monarch who had a speech impediment, but if you are going to get me to pay money at the theater to watch another WWII film, I better see at least 1 action sequence, otherwise Ill just go read about it on the internet. As soon as its available Ill catch it on Netflix, but in my opinion the only movie that I felt I needed to see in the theaters this year was Inception. Hate it or love it, at least it brought something different to the table. Overall I thought movies this year were meh, which would be evidenced by my lack of movie going. You missed out, as there were a lot of really good movies this year. And if all you need is a unique plot or action sequence, you can give the highest movie honor to some pretty terrible movies.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 25, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) Dude. That's now two places. I think he's stalking you. Shuuuuut uuuuuup!
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) Twas, but I just didn't think it was Best Pic worthy. Awful Oscar show last night all around. Even I got tired of watching and posting about it. Are you one of the people who thinks Inception should have won?
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) Yeah, I don't think anyone out there thought Inception stood a chance for Best Picture. Everything I read leading up pretty much had "The King's Speech" as the runaway favorite. I was personally rooting for "Black Swan" or "127 Hours", as they were films that really took me to a place few have before, but "The King's Speech" was a fine choice in an absolutely epic year for film. You are right about it being a great year for movies. I wanted The King's Speech to win, but I could see it going to almost any of the nominees.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 25, 2011 -> 12:01 PM) Check out his interview in this month's Esquire. It. Is. Fantastic. Is that available online? Also, disagree on Paul. I love Pegg and Frost. I've had Winter's Bone queued up on Netflix for about a month, but it's a long wait.
  20. Well, that went about exactly as I thought it would. No surprises in the major awards, and I'm glad they made the right choice for Best Picture instead of a more "popular" choice like Inception.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 25, 2011 -> 10:30 AM) Normally I'd agree, but with a guy who is suffering the effects of multiple concussions, I personally wouldn't take that risk. I don't think you take the concussions into account. If any player says this, you have to brush him away. You can't start making exceptions because of a guy's injury history.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 25, 2011 -> 09:54 AM) Yeah its thailand 100%. Bill Clinton, Liam Neeson, and Paul Giammatti have cameos This comeback of his couldn't make me happier. I've always been a big fan of Liam Neeson.
  23. I'm not trying to call anyone out and I understand his name is unique, but Buehrle has been on this team going on 12 years. We can spell his name the correct way.
  24. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 07:18 PM) Obviously the Cubs are an anomaly. A Cubs game is more about entertainment than baseball. They play to a packed house daily, but baseball isn't really the draw. It's more like an outdoor party of day drinking where a baseball game breaks out. If the Fire played at Wrigley, soccer would be huge in the city. That image made me laugh, thank you. You put it perfectly.
  25. I'm not sure it was cool of Crain to mention that Morneau never congratulated him. Seems like something that should definitely have been kept to himself. Teahen mentioning that he doesn't hate the Twins is another thing that this team lacks. I wish they all had Morneau's passion and hatred for their competition, instead of all of this admiration.
