Players who failed when it counts/against the Twins
Milkman delivers replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) What player would you recommend removing based on his failure to perform this year? John Danks? Gavin Floyd? Paul Konerko? Matt Thornton? Don't just say "there's no accountability amongst the players!", you have to say who you want gone and how dumping that player would make us better. I never said "there's no accountability amongst the players!" I said there is no accountability at all. I want KW or Ozzie gone. They might try to spin the subtraction of one of the players like Kotsay (who is a no-brainer to be gone) as showing accountability, but that is about the least you can do. -
You get mine, knight?

Players who failed when it counts/against the Twins

I'm saying that they will make no meaningful changes. They will cut the dead weight, as they should, but there will be no accountability for the continual failure of this team to make the postseason. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) are you saying 300 sucked, or the first Superman reboot Superman.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 12:12 PM) Really? They'll cut ties with a single player or two? When does Kenny Williams not substantially overhaul his roster in the offseason? What I'm saying is that they'll cut meaningless guys. They'll get rid of players like Kotsay and Jenks, the no-brainers. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) What if we hired a GM that has had tremendous success elsewhere? Would it matter to you? Yes, of course. I'm talking about teams other than the Sox.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) I don't know about you, but the Opera singing hotdog vendor in Detroit sure helps me hate them. I have (thankfully) never been to Detroit. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) One way for a team to get my casual interest is to hire a sabermetric guy to assemble a team. Another way is to hire a sabermetric guy from the front office of my favorite team. As it stands, i go to the Met games about a half-dozen times per year, and it might be nice to see what Hahn could do with that ballclub. I'm not saying that i'd be a Mets fan, i'd just pay more attention to see what kind of approach that Hahn takes. Fair enough. I just wouldn't give a rat's ass.

Players who failed when it counts/against the Twins

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 11:47 AM) We were 5-13 against the Twins. The entire team failed, from top to bottom. Yes, they certainly did. The problem I have with it is that we don't seem to embrace the idea of accountability. During the offseason, they'll cut ties with a player or two and use that as the bare minimum of accountability. I look at this team, and I can't help but feel as though they should've had more than TWO playoff appearances in 10 years. In any other business, I feel like heads would roll with that type of production or lack thereof. I picture it as an office. If the manager of the office is a great guy and seemingly good at his job, yet the office sees a lack of sales for nearly 10 years even though they've brought in new employees and sent some packing, eventually the ax has to come down on that manager. Call the manager KW or Ozzie. It doesn't matter. One of them has to answer for these repeated failures. -

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) I guess I should have clarified my position a bit more. Ozzie has faults that I'm certainly not happy about. To heave a significant share of the blame for the Sox remarkable ineptitude against their own division (The KC and earlier on, Cleveland struggles are 100 times more frustrating than losing to a playoff bound Twins team) is unfair. I'm not even remotely suggesting that the manager goes blameless. I'll rail on the s***ty play on the field before I go after the coaching staff. These aren't infants, they're grown men that get paid a lot of money to utilize their talent to play the game. I bring the front office into the discussion because if the players *do* need constant prodding and reminders to perform (which is what I'm concluding from the responses) then mistakes were made in the construction of the roster. I won't shout about that too much either. My skepticism towards this team could probably be divided as 15% to the front office, 15% to the coaching staff, and 70% to the guys on the field- you know, those who have the most direct say-so in the outcome of a game. Ah, that makes a ton more sense I agree with almost all of your points, but the percentage of blame is something I'd change. Something like 50/25/25 would be closer to my estimate (with the players getting the majority of the blame, of course). I think we agree overall, though. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 10:17 AM) I wouldn't mind Hahn getting the New York job. It would give me an active rooting interest when i go to Mets games. That being said he is clearly very valuable to Kenny and the White Sox organization as a whole and his loss would be problematic. I have no idea why the GM of a team would give you a rooting interest. It would have absolutely no effect on me rooting for anything.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) whoa man, you are way ahead of everyone else, lol Zach Snyder(300, Watchmen, Legend of the Guardians) to direct "The Man of Steel" (superman reboot) Apparently General Zod is to be the main villain, and Brandon Routh is likely NOT going to return The first one sucked so much that I still haven't even finished watching it. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) I have three guys in mind for the Riddler. A lot of whom have already been covered. 1. NPH. 2. Joseph Gordon Levitt 3. Alan Tudyk These guys are all very capable of pulling off the various facets in the Riddler's personality. Those last two would work, but I do not want Neil Patrick Harris ANYWHERE NEAR the new Batman franchise. He has had a nice comeback and all, but I'm honestly sick of him. I certainly don't want to see him in a serious role like that.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 08:48 AM) No, the guys playing the game failed us, and if a manager, hitting coach, or pitching coach had any significant role in it then it was the general manager who failed because his 25 man roster lacked balls and a spine. Wow, no blame whatsoever for the manager? I mean, if they're that much of a non-factor, why even have them? -
Thanks, Nancy. Everyone but the manager appreciates what you've done for us.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 08:27 PM) The Riddler is an OCD psycho with a short fuse. I read up on The Riddler a while ago. Wasn't he just basically a genius who wasn't really "bad," but just looking for a worthy adversary? I think I read that he was even a good guy on occasion. If they use The Riddler, then they'll probably need a secondary villain.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) What about Jackie Earle Haley? That would be a good choice. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) I liked the Eminem rumor. That actually wouldn't be terrible.

I agree with the change to just horror films. I'll make a list, but I honestly don't even like horror movies. It'll probably be tough to make the list.

Ozzie and the staff will be back for 2011
Milkman delivers replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 2, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) It's not certain if Walker will return. From Whitesox.com : CHICAGO -- Even with Ozzie Guillen firmly entrenched as manager for the 2011 season, White Sox hitting coach Greg Walker has yet to decide if he will be returning. "I never make a decision before getting away from baseball," said Walker, who originally spoke about his pending decision a few weeks ago to the Sun-Times, before Guillen's return was made official. "Ozzie wants me to come back," Walker said. "Our coaching staff and manager are clicking as good as we ever have. Our manager has had a great year. Our coaching staff has fought the fight. We are a very close-knit group. I would miss that very much, but my family comes first." Walker's present hedging on returning for his eighth full season certainly doesn't mean the White Sox will be shopping for a new hitting coach. As Walker explained, he simply likes to get away at the end of the season, "go out in the woods in Georgia and chill," before making a decision. That process follows whether Walker has three years on a present deal or one year. He'll certainly run the final call by his family, but Walker pointed out that he also has a baseball family in Chicago to consider. "This is part of my family, too, so it enters into the equation," said Walker of his love for the White Sox. "I never make any decisions until the season is over. I love this job, I love the players and I love our staff. "Chicago -- it's my home. But I don't rush into it because I don't have to. I've done other things, so I know I'm capable of doing other things. I still have a great deal of passion for this job. Over the years, we've gotten good at what we do here, and we are getting better every year. So, that's where I'm at." -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 06:37 PM) Has Crawford ever said anything about loving Chicago or Ozzie or anything? That would be cool. If he ever said anything about Chicago or Ozzie, my guess is that it wouldn't be positive.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) I'm actually really looking forward to the next roast, because I could see them tearing into Greg Giraldo, and he would have loved that. That was actually one of the first thoughts I had after hearing about this. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) My biggest problem with the roasts now are that they just pick the easiest people to roast. They used to pick some of the biggest stars, and were forced to be creative about the jokes. Jokes about people like Bob Saget, Flavor Flav, and David Hasselhoff are basically written before the comedians even have to think about them. Well, you're not going to get a really big celebrity to be roasted on Comedy Central.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) People do this every year. First episode or two: That was awesome, there was so much action! I didn't see that coming! This is the best show ever! Middle 6 or 7 episodes: This is too much drama. I want more action. Who cares how the main characters feel? Most of this is boring. Final 3-5 episodes of the season: Wow! That was crazy! I can't believe they just did that?! What's going to happen next?! This is so intense! Final 20 mins of last episode: What a twist! I can't believe they ended it like that. I can't wait to see what happens next season. Most good shows do this. Get used to it. They have to provide background information for future twists, and make viewers care about the characters (or at least get to know them personally) so people will actually care what happens to them. If it was all gunfights and crime people wouldn't get invested into the show. Who would have cared if Jaxx's baby got stolen if they didn't go into his family life last year? The first show that got me interested in the "boring" parts was The Sopranos. That show was just perfect to me.

Don't think I watch MTV. I just see the Jackass movies when they come out.
-
Understandable. I just like to watch people hurting themselves.

Surprising. Why not?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) They suck because there's only a few good roasters. Thyy tend to bring out non-comedic celebrities and have them read, rather badly I might add, from a teleprompter. That's not entirely true. Some of the celebrities actually do pretty well, although they are definitely in the minority. Giraldo and Lampanelli were the only regulars that were always funny. Ross was on and off.
