QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) Inglourious Basterds = Excellent Have anything to input on the previous discussions in this thread about the movie?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) Who plans on seeing Extract this weekend? It doesn't look that funny to me. I hope someone here sees it and comments, though.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 04:44 PM) Ron, what music do you listen to now? If you try Pandora and make a station of bands you like, the system selects different bands similar to bands that you like and plays their music. I listen to mostly classic rock with a little bit of everything thrown in there randomly. I have been to pandora, but nothing new seems that good to me...not sure why.

QUOTE (earthshiner @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:58 PM) I am not so sure people realize that Rios has only played in 17 games for us. Not sure how anyone can make any sort of judgment on him. I knew it wasn't many games, but THAT'S IT?!

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 08:07 PM) actually, they got hot at the same time the Sox took a dive, at this point in the season, after scuffling a bit, they caught fire and went 17-3. But this coincided with a slide by the Sox, which only stoked that fire for them i'm sure. Plus we have minny to jump over. Still...they proved it can be done, with some help. Proved that you can play at a ridiculous clip and still not pass the team ahead of you? -
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) depends how little of the music you are listening to. I'm open to listening to anything. Any good suggestions?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) He's been amazing in everything I've ever seen him in. I honestly think he's the best actor of my time (or at least he's one of them). IMO, he is the best actor of this generation. I always say that when I have movie discussions with people.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 09:02 AM) Watched Gangs of New York on IFC last night. I think I enjoyed it more the 2nd time around. Daniel Day Lewis was amazing. He's amazing in everything. That year Adrien Brody won Best Actor for the Pianist. It could have gone either way (that year was actually fairly stacked for actors), but I'm sure the fact that the Pianist was about a Jewish man surviving the Holocaust put Brody over the top. And that Boondock Saints trailer leaves a lot to be desired.

That picture makes me dizzy.

I think when you look at it all as a whole, we are living in the worst time frame for music from the 1950's through today.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) Give me the late 60's and early 70's any day. And anyone who says different is just flat-out wrong.

QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) My parents used to live in an apartment down in Chicago. They lived next door to some hotel or something. Well, one night there was a HUGE party going on in one of the hotel rooms, so my mom called the hotel to complain. The front desk of the hotel called up to the room and patched my mom through. The voice on the other end introduced himself, and my mom asked him if they could possibly keep it down. "Yes ma'am, I am sorry" he said. Soon enough, the volume of the party quieted down. The next day my mom looks in the paper, see's the names of who was in town, and puts two and two together. When the guy answered the phone he said "This is Brian Epstein, may I help you?". My mom asked the manager of The Beatles if The Beatles could quiet their party down...and they obliged. My dad has a close friend in Texas. This friend happens to be neighbors with Willie Nelson and George W. Bush. My dad has hung out with all of them at the same time on numerous occasions. Class acts, those Beatles.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) At the time I saw it at the theater I wondered why they didn't reverse the order. For me, the best part of Death Proof was when Kurt Russell was eating those nachos. They looked f***ing incredibly delicious. I craved nachos for a long time after that.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) Because in his mind it improves the White Sox's chances of winning in the future. I said this in '07 and I truly believe it; how could it possibly be a bad thing to root against your team if you truly believe that a loss is better for the team in the long run than a win? Win 15 of your final 30 and finish in 3rd place with a pick between 13 and 15 or win 8 of 30, finish in 3rd or 4th place and get a top 10 pick? Once you fell your team is out of it you start looking for the best case scenario and in his mind that would be a high draft pick. Exactly. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) Plus you finish strong and it also shows you have a good team and it ensures we don't just entirely blow this thing up. Small changes are needed and I think Kenny knows that. We should get a shot at a pretty good player picking in the top 15 anyway and I expect us to be in that spot. Then I hope that the young guys come up and perform lights out, but the pieces of crap in the bullpen (Pena, Williams, Linebrink, etc.) blow every single game and we lose out the rest of the year. OK, maybe one or two wins in there to break things up.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) Death Proof was my favorite Tarantino movie. The exact opposite for me. I also enjoyed Planet Terror much more. When I saw them, they played Planet Terror first, so Death Proof seemed like a bit of a letdown in comparison. Perhaps I would've liked it more if they had reversed the order.

QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) at least these rookies have some talent this time around. That being the good news in this situation makes me sigh yet again. *sigh*

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 11:27 PM) I usually don't like startin threads at all (I'd rather put up good info in another thread than to start one) but this is probably thread worthy. From the near competitiveness of our mediocre team earlier in the year to now the losing amazing to think the sox are actually close to a top 10 pick for next year in the draft. Since I'm a prospect freak, it's nice to look ahead for the next Gordon Beckham or Jared Mitchell for our org. in the draft. So far, here's where we stand in the bottom 15.. (top 10 picks, then the others) Washington 46-86 (probably will win the Bryce Harper sweepstakes) Kansas City 50-81 Pittsburgh 53-78 Baltimore 54-79 San Diego 57-76 Oakland 58-73 Cleveland 58-73 Toronto 59-72 Cincinnati 59-73 New York (N) 59-73 (Who'd thunk it?) Games back of top 10 Arizona 60-72 (1 game back) Houston 63-69 (3.5 games back) Sox 64-69 (4.5 games back) Milwaukee 64-67 (5.5 games back) Cubs 66-64 (8 games back) *Minnesota 67-65 (8 games back just to add them in here) Some of course are tied, but were closer to a top pick than we are of first which is sad especially considering if the season ended today, the Twins could have a top 15 pick right now (Ah the good ol' sucky AL/NL Centrals). We are currently 13th overall now which is still very high. I don't want this team losing every friggin game now, but considering some of the guys who were dealt this year that some posters here had "mad" crushes on, you can say KW and company can easily fix that specific weakness in the farm (not to mention potential comp. picks) come next season. We went from being competitive just a little over a month ago, to potentially having a top 10 pick. (and the way were going/performing.. we could be there in no time sadly) Other than Pittsburgh, we have the second worst (worst in AL) losing streak going right now. f*** it, I'll say it. I want this team to lose every game from here on out.

I usually don't like most things that Steve Phillips has to say, but he did a very good job on this article. The only part where I can find fault is "and his team plays hard and they care. He has them prepared day in and day out." I'm not so sure this team is always playing hard or that they care too much. And they often look unprepared.

Another White Sox season coming to an end, another season where the biggest draw in September is watching rookies get a shot. *sigh*

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) Basically what I thought as soon as I read that. It is difficult for me to be optimistic about anything WS at the moment. 2010 is starting to look good, so I'm starting to think of this as early Spring training. Same here. -
A prediction that I DIDN'T want to come true

QUOTE (b-Rye @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) trade don't make too much sense.. i just think he is fed up with dye/thome/konerko as 3-4-5 and thome was the easiest to move at the last minute with the dye's/pks contract. I guess you missed the entire first page of this thread.

QUOTE (T R U @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) No its too big.. I cant believe they didnt change it after Henry was done with it. Either way, its way too big and looks goofy. Oh, well I can't speak to the size of it, as I haven't really watched ECW in months. I'm speaking solely of the black and silver look. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) Anyone notice that whenever Wise took the field he looked like he was tanked? Also, i hope we run a straight platoon with Getz/Nix. I'd still like to see Jayson get some playing time. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT FOR A SECOND. -
I've never seen a question answered so thoroughly and repeatedly in such a short time.
