QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 11:40 AM) Are you gonna avoid commenting on Cruise? Well, he sure wasn't bad in it. I guess he just didn't live up to his usual standards, as he's one of the best actors around.

QUOTE (TheBlackSox8 @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 02:11 AM) It's all opinion anyway... I really wanted to like it a lot, but couldn't. Clint Eastwood's performance was entertaining, and there were some great lines of dialogue from his character. I give it a 6.5/10 For entertaining me, I'd give it an 8. Eastwood has that "cowboy" role nailed down. The lone stranger thing just suits him.

Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 10, 2009 -> 08:29 PM) The biggest play of the game (the 3rd and long pass to Heap on the last drive) should have been a delay of game, and the fact a missed call was such a key factor in a playoff game is a shame. I'm still also curious as to if Flacco stayed in bounds when he rolled out at the very back of the end zone on a 3rd and long pass play before Baltimore punted in the 4th quarter. However, at the end of the day, Tennessee had 3 giveaways (one at the Baltimore 32, another at the Baltimore 17, and a third at the Baltimore 6) zero takeaways, and 12 penalties. You have nobody to blame but yourself when you put up those numbers and lose a playoff game. Those are the two biggest things that crossed my mind during that game.

QUOTE (TheBlackSox8 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 12:41 AM) best actor....definitely no. I only thought the movie was decent because of his performance....without him I thought it was s***. After seeing it, I completely agree with this. Not that I didn't believe you in the first place.

Since Soxtalk went down, I think I've seen two movies. Valkyrie was pretty good, and it had a really great cast. I really like Eddie Izzard in serious roles (I enjoyed The Riches). Bill Nighy was damn good, and that bald actor impressed me, too. Tom Wilkinson did a very good job, as usual. I really want to see that man win an Oscar some day. Gran Torino was entertaining as hell. Clint Eastwood was great in it, and it had some awesome lines.

Sox close to signing 2 pitchers??
QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) Pettitte turned down a 1 yr 10mil deal with NYY. I'm sure it's because he knows he can get much more out of them. If I were him, and I just saw them hand out the contracts to Burnett, Sabathia, and Teixeira, I'd hold out for some more, too.

J.C. Romero suspended 50 games
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 09:42 AM) What he means to say is the most important thing is to get back the $1.25 million he's losing to suspension. I don't see why he would go to a second nutritionist instead of calling the hotline. You call the hotline, MLB has the recording that says you could take it, you're safe. What I believe happened here is his trainer said "you probably shouldn't take it" (as stated above), and then he took it. This mysterious second opinion probably didn't happen, because it's much easier to dial a phone number. I do think that based on the fact that in Spring Training the MLB outwardly cleared anything sold at GNC that the suspension should not happen and an apology should be made, however. I think that alone makes this a moot argument. As well he should. He's getting f***ed royally here.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) I dont think it would be all that difficult to write them in and out of the stories. The writers basically have to do it anyways with all of the injuries these guys sustain on a regular basis. Maybe a break for them would help them avoid some of the injuries caused by nagging pains that are often ignored. I guess there would also be the potential problem of paying them during their vacations. I'm sure most wrestlers would want to get paid as much as possible, and who knows if Vince would be willing to pay them during that time.

I didn't realize that Pettitte is only 36. I say 'only' because I thought he was one of those guys that was pitching into his 40's.

Or they could give each guy a two or three month vacation each year. I suppose it would be tough to write into the stories, but it seems possible.

Sox close to signing 2 pitchers??
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) Sheet is the most intriguing of the guys still out there, but KW would have to pay $12-14 million to get him for just one year I think...not sure if he will be relegated to an incentives-laden deal like Crede perhaps. The only thread of logic is some of these guys signing just one year contracts with the hopes of going back into the market off healthy years...on the other hand, they could get hurt, the economy could further tumble and they would be SOL. Perez is represented by Boras, is he not? Wolf is MEH for the money he's going to make, just like Garland. I like the idea of a guy like Pedro just as a "bridge" for one year. Take him out of the AL/NL East and he might have a chance for half a season. Maybe he would be a good presence to mentor/tutor Danks/Floyd and the younger pitchers, as well as having him around to look after Viciedo and increase his professionalism. Lyon would be good insurance for Linebrink and Dotel...and he's not costing us Type A compensation, that's big. You know with the bullpen, those guys can rebound and have lights-out years after crappy ones, especially in a new league where most hitters haven't seen him (like Linebrink in 2008) for a long time. Lowe will probably end up with $13-14 million per season over 4, Garland around $9-11 over 3. Since Burnett, Lowe, Wolf, Garland and Perez are the last five legitimate starters on the market standing, and there's still a huge need within many organizations, that will keep the prices inflated compared to the LF/DH market, where there are too many players fighting it out for fewer and fewer positions. Hudson remains intriguing too, if his price falls far enough...but will it ever be far enough for KW to turn around and lose the first rounder he'll get for Cabrera (hopefully)? Didn't Burnett already sign with the Yankees?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 12:22 AM) Josh Brolin was very good too, he's coming into his own as an actor and getting away from being just his father's son. Haven't seen "W" yet so no comment on that particular performance. Michael Clayton is one of those solid, sometimes boring, but pretty good movies that are driven more by the performances than by the storyline itself, which was okay. Some reviewers just love Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore, maybe because red hair and albino-esque skin is so rare in Hollywood today. It also reminds me of the line from Tropic Thunder (about Wilkinson), you can't play "full retard" or "crazy person" to win an Oscar, it has to be like Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man or A Beautiful Mind (which was really a stretch of the truth). Brolin really is coming into his own. I think I said something very similar in this thread a few months ago. And Wilkinson played an extremely believable manic depressant.
