  1. We probably wouldn't be very good after making those moves, KHP.
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) -Williams sorta danced around it, but basically said they tried to win another World Series with the core from the 2005 team, and while they had succses, it didn't ultimately happen, and now it's time to sorta get younger. -Wants to have young players on the team, but not have them carry the load. Ease them into the game slowly. -Mentioned now having the inventory to make that deadline move that he hasn't been able to make in years past because of a lack of a farm system.(I mentioned that last year, that Williams is finding out how important it is to have those pieces). -Talked about not needing the "name" player to make impact (Aka name=money). -Unsure about how the fan support is going to be, given the economic landscape. Says Sox need to hold up their end of the bargin, and confident the fans will show. -Mentioned that Dayan this season is taking the exact figure that Swisher had last year. He looks at Swisher trade as Marquez-Nunuez-Dayan(no mention of Betemit for whatever reason) -Somehow, they are slightly over budget right now. However, there is no pressure right now to lower that number. -Asked the question if Beckham could be up here by mid season, Williams answered with "We are confident in Getz and Lillibridge at 2nd". He did however say he is a very special player, and sometimes special players force the issue. Again, I really hope that's just a smokescreen. Either way, I'm starting to get worried. The winter meetings have passed, and we did nothing. We didn't even pick anyone up in the Rule V draft.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 11:30 PM) Because PBF has been KO'ed by hard hitters so many times before? I don't get where you are coming up with this idea that MP is going to KO Mayweather if they fight. Also, if Mayweather doesn't have enough KO power to put down MP maybe you should watch the Hatton fight again. The dude knocked the Big Show right the f*** out. He's got some KO power.
  4. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) I agree, but coming from Gene, it's kinda funny. This is a guy who has made no secret of how many groupies he's nailed throughout the years. I guess doing it wasn't disrespectful to those women and telling about it isn't disrespectful to his wife. Nice job Geno. I don't think he's raping these groupies. I think by their very definition, groupies want to get nailed by the band. He's providing a service, and everyone wins.
  5. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 08:46 AM) Just a general comment here: The Dark Knight was a good movie. But judging on some of the comments here and other people I run into every day, if I had not seen it myself, I'd have to assume it was the greatest movie ever made. It wasn't even the best movie of the year, let alone among the top 5. Not only that, Batman Begins was better. And furthermore, Batman Begins isn't the best of the series. Moving on... Anyone that's seen Synecdoche, New York... can you make sense of it for me? (Besides the overall general point of the movie Kaufman was after.) Why the hell was that woman's house on fire? And the realtor's son living in the basement? Did the clocks/time play any significance? What was Kaufman trying to get across by jumping all around the sequence of time? What else? I agree with everything you said, except maybe the last line of the first paragraph. The fact that men were using the word "breathtaking" to describe that movie was hilarious. If I ever used that word to describe anything, I'd hand in my man card.
  6. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 12:52 AM) ...and hot chicks get a lot more action, so their va jay jay is more likely to be um, in need of cleaning.....yet another theory. This isn't necessarily true at all. I've known plenty of ugly girls that were huge whores. If a girl isn't too attractive, she might just give it up to anyone at almost any time. A prettier girl can be more picky.
  7. Another great old song I just discovered for myself. "These Days" by Jackson Browne. Anyone know it?
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) http://deadspin.com/5107345/mma-sets-new-s...ne=true&s=x Do not look if you couldn't stand the Joe Theisman injury Awesome. It doesn't even seem like the guy realizes his leg breaks, but then he goes to step backwards on it, and whoops!
  9. QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) Thanks, I thought it was really funny. Didn't get quite the reception that I planned, though.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) Thanks...oh. Don't worry, I'm a huge fan of yours.
  11. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) True, I hear its gets pretty good gas mileage. http://www.toyota.com/matrix/ The person below me thinks that the only "star" actor worse than Keanu Reeves is the dude who plays Peter Petrelli on "Heroes." False, Nicolas Cage. To this day, I cannot believe that man won an Oscar and was nominated for another. The person below me is studying for a final.
  12. You can't entirely blame people for beginning to get upset. I know we're supposed to take anything KW says with a grain of salt, but he's been saying for a while now that we are cutting payroll. And we haven't been tied to any free agents. So, a lot of us know not to take KW at his word, but quite a few will believe him when he says that we won't be adding any big contracts. I, for one, think we'll end up signing a relatively expensive free agent (I really think we'll end up with Dunn) and/or trading for a quality MLB player. But if we don't, you better believe I'll be angry because you simply cannot raise ticket prices and cut payroll drastically.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) Partially true, I tried. The person below me heard their mama cry, heard her pray the night Chicago died. Wait, are you thinking of that compilation CD from a few years back? I remember the commercial pretty well, and I'm pretty sure those two songs (and those exact two lyrics) were used one right after the other. QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 05:36 PM) True, When THE Mayor Daley died The person below me has seen skyrockets in flight, afternoon delight Yes. The person below me can name about 20 porn stars off of the top of his/her head.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) I think the leadoff position is going to be filled by the CF position, and let's hope it's not Taveras. What other option is there at that position? I have a terrible feeling we'll end up seeing Juan Pierre out there.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) Am I the only one who finds that a bit over the line? Yes, you are. It was funny.
  16. If he gets in, it should be noted on his plaque that he was a shameless self-promoter and that it is a large reason he's there. That'd be the ultimate back-handed compliment to him. You're in, but here's your plaque.
  17. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) I just heard on the phone that our cat back home got runover by a car last week. Safe to say, she didn't exactly have 9 lives. Well, let's not jump to conclusions. You have no idea how many times that car ran her over.
  18. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) Who is this Mr Perfect wannabe? Sigler? What?
  19. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 06:22 PM) You should get your hands on the first two seasons, it is just a fantastic show, Jimmy Smits is very good in this season. Well, I bought the first two seasons for my girlfriend for Christmas. I imagine I'll end up watching them.
  20. I'm trying to put all bias aside, and I'm still coming up with the Cubs. I don't think any team is even close.
  21. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) If anyone else watches Dexter, last night's episode was incredible and set it up for an awesome finale. Already can't wait for next sunday. I got into it this season, and it's really good.
  22. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) They have phones that dont have the internet still? I can go to T-Mobile's T-Zone, but that's not really the internet.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) I think its safe to say that KW isnt after a FA pitcher. He was going to fill the lead off/OF/Pitching roles with trades or FA signings. With Bailey probably slotted for the 4th or 5th spot in the rotation I think its a pretty solid guess that any FA is going to be a corner OF'er or a leadoff man. Most likely true, but I wouldn't be very confident going into next year with a rotation of Buehrle, Danks, Floyd, Bailey, and any of the AAA guys. I love Danks and I've grown to really like Floyd, but at least one of them is due to fall off a little next year. I also believe that Bailey can become great, but I also doubt it's going to happen immediately. The same can be said of the AAA guys.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) Swisher was f***ing awful. I still believe we'll see the Sox make a minimum of one decent size free agent signing's and potentially as many as two (either a SS and OF or an OF and pitcher, imo). I was thinking that I'd be satisfied if the Sox ended up getting two of these three: Furcal, Lowe, and Dunn. Even if it's not those guys specifically, I'd hope it would be a proven major league player at those respective positions (Starter, LF/RF, and 2B/SS).
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) I think he'd be batting 9th. And I wouldn't really have much of a problem with that.
