QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) Doing that makes my nose itch though. That same things happens for me.

I didn't realize that Pettitte is only 36. I say 'only' because I thought he was one of those guys that was pitching into his 40's.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) I thought Jared Allen should have been runner up. Besides Peterson, he was Minnesota's MVP this year. Anyways, I got: Giants over Eagles Panthers over Cardinals Titans over Ravens (UPSET?) Steelers over Chargers So, you're taking every bye team? Living on the edge. -

Or they could give each guy a two or three month vacation each year. I suppose it would be tough to write into the stories, but it seems possible. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) Sheet is the most intriguing of the guys still out there, but KW would have to pay $12-14 million to get him for just one year I think...not sure if he will be relegated to an incentives-laden deal like Crede perhaps. The only thread of logic is some of these guys signing just one year contracts with the hopes of going back into the market off healthy years...on the other hand, they could get hurt, the economy could further tumble and they would be SOL. Perez is represented by Boras, is he not? Wolf is MEH for the money he's going to make, just like Garland. I like the idea of a guy like Pedro just as a "bridge" for one year. Take him out of the AL/NL East and he might have a chance for half a season. Maybe he would be a good presence to mentor/tutor Danks/Floyd and the younger pitchers, as well as having him around to look after Viciedo and increase his professionalism. Lyon would be good insurance for Linebrink and Dotel...and he's not costing us Type A compensation, that's big. You know with the bullpen, those guys can rebound and have lights-out years after crappy ones, especially in a new league where most hitters haven't seen him (like Linebrink in 2008) for a long time. Lowe will probably end up with $13-14 million per season over 4, Garland around $9-11 over 3. Since Burnett, Lowe, Wolf, Garland and Perez are the last five legitimate starters on the market standing, and there's still a huge need within many organizations, that will keep the prices inflated compared to the LF/DH market, where there are too many players fighting it out for fewer and fewer positions. Hudson remains intriguing too, if his price falls far enough...but will it ever be far enough for KW to turn around and lose the first rounder he'll get for Cabrera (hopefully)? Didn't Burnett already sign with the Yankees?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) The homemade stuff that used to be sold on the floor of the CBOE was the best stuff I ever had. That stuff was great.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 05:43 PM) Eagle Eye was 2 hours worth of too much budget, not enough script. I knew that's exactly what it would be. I had no desire to see it in theaters, and I still don't even want to watch it.

QUOTE (TheBlackSox8 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 12:30 AM) I think it was a decent movie...But i do think overrated. Eastwood (and maybe the asian girl) were the only good performances of the film...But Eastwood was awesome. Best Actor awesome? EDIT: I don't doubt he was awesome, as he almost always is.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 12:22 AM) Josh Brolin was very good too, he's coming into his own as an actor and getting away from being just his father's son. Haven't seen "W" yet so no comment on that particular performance. Michael Clayton is one of those solid, sometimes boring, but pretty good movies that are driven more by the performances than by the storyline itself, which was okay. Some reviewers just love Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore, maybe because red hair and albino-esque skin is so rare in Hollywood today. It also reminds me of the line from Tropic Thunder (about Wilkinson), you can't play "full retard" or "crazy person" to win an Oscar, it has to be like Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man or A Beautiful Mind (which was really a stretch of the truth). Brolin really is coming into his own. I think I said something very similar in this thread a few months ago. And Wilkinson played an extremely believable manic depressant.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) Michael Clayton was so boring. Bardem put the creeps in everyone during NCFOM Eh, he just killed guys without remorse. That's more of a great role than a great acting job. Bardem did a spectacular job, but I think it's a role a lot of actors could've done a lot with. Wilkinson deserved it more.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 09:51 PM) I agree on Wilkinson, I thought he got shafted on that. Should have won. It was honestly one of the best supporting jobs I have ever seen.

I think you're supposed to press Menu + Center Button at the same time, and hold it for a while. Keep doing that for like 10 seconds at a time. If it doesn't work the first time, flip the safety switch on top so that the buttons don't work, and press the buttons really hard for a few seconds, turn off the safety switch, and do the 10 second thing again. Should work eventually.

I also just watched Michael Clayton for the first time. That was a very solid movie. A little boring at times, but I like how it ended. I'm not sure why Tilda Swinton won an Oscar for that movie, as she was in it for all of 15 minutes. Tom Wilkinson really deserved that Oscar. I loved No Country For Old Men, and I believe that Javier Bardem did a hell of a job, but I think Wilkinson bested him.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) I'm voting for James Franco from Pineapple Express and Wall-E for best actor, lol. FWIW, EW (Dave Karger) did an Academy Awards prediction article in the last couple of days....I think Clint Eastwood will get a lot of buzz for Gran Torino, too...looks like DiCaprio's chances with Revolutionary Road are going downhill, opening up a place for the kid from Slumdog Millionaire. Was Rourke mentioned at all? I knew Eastwood would get a lot of buzz, as he's Clint Eastwood. I've yet to see that movie, but I know already that it's going to be overrated, but still very good.

Oh my God, this is the greatest thread ever. And I only just read the first post.
-
I just got back from The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. It was definitely a good movie, but also a downer. In my opinion, Rourke is still head and shoulders the leader for best actor.

QUOTE (juddling @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 01:40 PM) I just saw 'A Fish Called Wanda' for the first time in at least 10 years. I'm surprised how the comedy in that film has held up over the years. It had me laughing out loud. I watched that movie for the first time about a month ago. It's great.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 11:08 PM) Yeah, Speed Racer, the sequel to Chronicles of Narnia, even Quantum of Solace (domestically so-so, it has done really well overseas, but it just wasn't as good as Casino Royale not even close), the disastrous Phil. Pullman movie that won't lead to a series, the imfamous Delgo! Australia would be another example, something like a $150 million movie that will struggle to make back half that. Movies like Hancock are even considered disappointments when they make in the hundreds of millions now...so definitely, there's that niche for movies that are either brainless (like all the Jason Statham ones that make tidy profits) or ones that don't require huge budgets like High School Musical or Hannah Montana type productions. It will be interesting to see the fate of Avatar and The Watchmen, along with Monsters versus Aliens, the new 3D/2D theatre experience. What is Monsters versus Aliens? And disastrous Phil, what are you referring to there?

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 06:36 PM) Thx, MMD, I've been going back and forth on watching it. This is my guess, they story can only go one of two ways, so the film has to rely on strong performances, am I right? Yes, exactly.
-
I just got back from seeing Doubt. It was a pretty good movie, but you could tell that it was only as good as it was because of the strong performances by the two main actors. It probably would've been unbearable had it not starred Philip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep.

I watched The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford last night. I'm not entirely sure what to think of it. I think it's kind of ridiculous the way Ford was treated after killing James. Sure, he

For anyone who enjoyed Boondock Saints, it appears that the sequel is actually happening now. That took a while.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 1, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) Gooch is not coming back here. ANd yes it has been extremely boring. . Although it sure has been boring, I meant that the offseason has been bad because we've done nothing but unload salary and added none.
