QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) Michael Clayton was so boring. Bardem put the creeps in everyone during NCFOM Eh, he just killed guys without remorse. That's more of a great role than a great acting job. Bardem did a spectacular job, but I think it's a role a lot of actors could've done a lot with. Wilkinson deserved it more.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 09:51 PM) I agree on Wilkinson, I thought he got shafted on that. Should have won. It was honestly one of the best supporting jobs I have ever seen.
  3. I think you're supposed to press Menu + Center Button at the same time, and hold it for a while. Keep doing that for like 10 seconds at a time. If it doesn't work the first time, flip the safety switch on top so that the buttons don't work, and press the buttons really hard for a few seconds, turn off the safety switch, and do the 10 second thing again. Should work eventually.

I also just watched Michael Clayton for the first time. That was a very solid movie. A little boring at times, but I like how it ended. I'm not sure why Tilda Swinton won an Oscar for that movie, as she was in it for all of 15 minutes. Tom Wilkinson really deserved that Oscar. I loved No Country For Old Men, and I believe that Javier Bardem did a hell of a job, but I think Wilkinson bested him.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) I'm voting for James Franco from Pineapple Express and Wall-E for best actor, lol. FWIW, EW (Dave Karger) did an Academy Awards prediction article in the last couple of days....I think Clint Eastwood will get a lot of buzz for Gran Torino, too...looks like DiCaprio's chances with Revolutionary Road are going downhill, opening up a place for the kid from Slumdog Millionaire. Was Rourke mentioned at all? I knew Eastwood would get a lot of buzz, as he's Clint Eastwood. I've yet to see that movie, but I know already that it's going to be overrated, but still very good.
  6. Oh my God, this is the greatest thread ever. And I only just read the first post.

I just got back from The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. It was definitely a good movie, but also a downer. In my opinion, Rourke is still head and shoulders the leader for best actor.

QUOTE (juddling @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 01:40 PM) I just saw 'A Fish Called Wanda' for the first time in at least 10 years. I'm surprised how the comedy in that film has held up over the years. It had me laughing out loud. I watched that movie for the first time about a month ago. It's great.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 11:08 PM) Yeah, Speed Racer, the sequel to Chronicles of Narnia, even Quantum of Solace (domestically so-so, it has done really well overseas, but it just wasn't as good as Casino Royale not even close), the disastrous Phil. Pullman movie that won't lead to a series, the imfamous Delgo! Australia would be another example, something like a $150 million movie that will struggle to make back half that. Movies like Hancock are even considered disappointments when they make in the hundreds of millions now...so definitely, there's that niche for movies that are either brainless (like all the Jason Statham ones that make tidy profits) or ones that don't require huge budgets like High School Musical or Hannah Montana type productions. It will be interesting to see the fate of Avatar and The Watchmen, along with Monsters versus Aliens, the new 3D/2D theatre experience. What is Monsters versus Aliens? And disastrous Phil, what are you referring to there?

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 06:36 PM) Thx, MMD, I've been going back and forth on watching it. This is my guess, they story can only go one of two ways, so the film has to rely on strong performances, am I right? Yes, exactly.

I just got back from seeing Doubt. It was a pretty good movie, but you could tell that it was only as good as it was because of the strong performances by the two main actors. It probably would've been unbearable had it not starred Philip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep.

I watched The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford last night. I'm not entirely sure what to think of it. I think it's kind of ridiculous the way Ford was treated after killing James. Sure, he

For anyone who enjoyed Boondock Saints, it appears that the sequel is actually happening now. That took a while.
  15. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 1, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) I have to poop. Ditto.
  16. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 1, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) Gooch is not coming back here. ANd yes it has been extremely boring. . Although it sure has been boring, I meant that the offseason has been bad because we've done nothing but unload salary and added none.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 11:53 PM) Just got back from seeing The Wrestler. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't a great movie by any stretch. It was a decent movie, worth seeing for a night out with the Mrs, but nothing outstanding. Rourke did a nice job, maybe Oscar-worthy, maybe not. What other performances have you seen this year that would make you say that Rourke's job may be Oscar-worthy?
  18. Sure, why the hell not? This offseason couldn't possibly suck any worse than it already has, so this can't hurt.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Dec 28, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) That's probably where I'm going to end up seeing it. The Mrs. and I might do that as our New Year's Eve date, then get home (hopefully) in time to ring in 2009 with the kid. The movie was sold out at the time we originally planned to see it, and we ended up going to the next showing. You may want to consider buying the tickets ahead of time.
  20. So, what is the playoff picture?

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 28, 2008 -> 07:31 PM) What actors are nominated? Have you seen all the performances? Nominations haven't been announced yet, but I've seen pretty much every movie that's come out this year, and it blows them all away. Going by the Golden Globe nominations, the other four nominees are from movies that have just come out or are about to. Either way, I can't see any of them comparing. EDIT: I should clarify, I meant Rourke's performance blows them all away, not the movie itself.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Dec 28, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) I really hope they expand the release around here. Only having it in two local theatres is a disgrace. I was in Chicago this past week, and I saw it downtown. Being a wrestling fan only made the movie better.
  23. Milkman delivers replied to Chisoxfn's topic in SLaM
Mickey Rourke better win the Oscar. I can't think of a single performance this year that even came close.
  24. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 09:52 AM) Shouldnt the other guys insurance pay for the rental? Was the accident your fault?(I cant remember) The guy skipped out.
  25. Ranger, are you actually expecting to get all of those things, or is that just a list of things you've told people you want? I just tell people not to get me anything, but knowing that they will anyway, it will probably be all gift cards and money (which is good).
