  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) The 03 Sox did wind up taking the tests in the end. We don't know exactly what the Union might have said to get them to take the tests, but they certainly did protest by refusing to take them, and I'm almost certain they took them in the end. It wouldn't surprise me if what the Union said to them was "Guys, we're already past the 5% mark, there's going to be testing next year, please take them so this doesn't blow up on everyone." It's really unfortunate that this never got any attention from the national media. Imagine if the Yankees, Red Sox, or Cubs did this? The team would be considered heroes. The White Sox do it, let's not pay attention.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) Brett Favre retirement #2 starts now. More like #7. Go the f*** away. I used to be a huge Favre fan, but he's such a prima donna that I don't want to ever see him play another game.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Haven't seen that yet, it's next on my list, you say it should win, but is it a great film?? It would be nominated any other year, I'd say.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 10:40 PM) Would you be interested in Guillen's page at all or just CQ? Either one.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 08:08 PM) Major League Baseball has expressly prohibited the illegal use of performance enhancing drugs since 1991 but didn't add a punishment for the offense until 2004. Is it okay to break it rule if it has no punishment? I mention this all the time. People either completely forget about that fact, or don't care to recognize it.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) He admitted to cheating from 2001-2003. You're blind or naive if you actually think that's the only time he took steroids. Oh, it just so happens that he only took steroids in the timeframe in which he was on the Rangers. He's feeding you bulls*** and you're all eating it up.
  7. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) He did it for three years (2001-2003) Watching the interview, he seemed really upset/emotional while talking to Gammons. I've always heard he had a huge conscience, and tried doing the right things, whether that's accurate or not... I don't know, but he looked like he was truly sorry for this You never know though, some people are hard to read I might not be recalling correctly, but isn't this the same guy who was seen taking another woman out to a club while married and also fooling around with Madonna. Conscience my ass.
  8. I'd do this. I'll have to just send cash to someone, though, as I don't have a paypal account and don't want to use my card for this.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) How would Pujols being implicated change that? RoY in 2001 Touché. Still, it would make them look that much better.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 02:16 AM) Is it not possible to be the best without being great? 'The Reader' should win best picture, but it's not great. Penn or Rourke will win best actor, but neither performance is great......hell, Ledger was better in his role than both. Frost/Nixon should win best picture, but it sure won't.
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) I believe in loyalty is all and I don't waste my energy on bashing Sox players present-past or soon to be past I'll go ahead and stay loyal to the team over the broken-down, has-been player.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) As much as some despise Crede on here, let me ask you this question: Would you, like me, cringe to see Joe in a Twins uniform playing the Sox 20 times a season? A healthy Joe playing against us? Awful news for the Sox. The guy is a clutch hitter and great fielder. Does not compute.
  13. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) He was and is a gold glove all-star caliber player You are hilarious in your fanboyism.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) That is the saddest thing I've read on a message board. Do what it takes to win. Does that mean if you are a college fan, you cheat out the ass to win? Pay the players under the table to make sure a Kentucky is always better than a Davidson or Gonzaga? I'm not saying Ky cheats, just citing them as the big school example. Bring out the asterisks and ban anybody who is a known user from the Hall. Baseball doesn't want asterisks but like somebody said this is like the world wide wrestling federation now. The era of steroids has to be noted in the record books. Cheating (taking shortcuts is a nicer way to put it) sucks. -- Did Maggs use? How old are you?
  15. Anyone know of any good do-it-yourself moving companies? Considering price and all.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 01:16 AM) Definitely Vladimir Guerrero and Ichiro....and, as long as Jeter is clean (and he's not a power-based player, although his SLG shot up for awhile), he's first ballot. The question with Guerrero will be his health...if he at least puts up 2,500 hits, I think he'll be in for sure. Piazza is obviously under a huge cloud of suspicion...and there have always been doubts about I-Rod (not defensively, of course...but about his size and power/hitting). Billy Wagner? Don't think so....I think Smoltz is just a notch under Hall of Fame, too. I think Smoltz and/or Mussina will both get in eventually, but the cases are not clear-cut. Another player you don't hear much about is Bagwell (in terms of steroids rumors)...and Biggio will be there. It's hard to imagine, but Roberto Alomar might not make it (the spitting incident with Hirschbeck and the rapid fade to his career at the end), and ten years ago or so, you could argue that he was the best 2nd baseman ever...and have a legit case. Roberto Alomar is the greatest 2B ever, and he will get into the HOF without question.

Robin Williams has been nominated for four Oscars (I believe), and won one of them. The man is a very accomplished actor. Also, I just watched In The Bedroom. It was very good, and my man-crush on Tom Wilkinson continues to grow.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) I am surprised it pulled a PG-13 rating. There was basically no blood and the deaths were pretty clean.
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) The thing is, he was such a stud since he was young (still arguably the best high school player ever seen) that you wouldn't think he would need an edge to be as great as he already was. That's what I think he was stupid in that regard. Well... there's still Frank and Griffey who, so far, are clean and still the best players in our era. But we should just try and move forward on this. Baseball is a game of edges, and eventually/most of the time, folks take them. Ritalin, scuffed balls, vaseline, red juice, cutting the bases, spitting on the ball, watering the basepaths, drying out the field with gasoline, pine tar, telescopes in CF, blinking lights, foot tappers in the 3rd base box, infield decks, corked bats, holding the runners belt, stealing signs from the dugout, tilted baselines... HGH, PEDs, steroids. What are these things?
  20. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) I like the way you're put together. I usually cheer for news stories that aggravate and upset a large number of people. This last week I've been especially satisfied with Phelps smoking out of bong and Arod testing positive for steroids. Just prepare yourself for the manufactured outrage from the media. We'll probably be overwhelmed with these types for the unforeseeable future. Best part of all this? Canseco was right, yet again, and it's going to KILL some people on ESPN to admit it. I wish someone like David Ortiz was accused of taking steroids by Canseco just so people would squirm in their seats at the thought of their fugly DH shooting up roids. When I read Canseco's book right when it came out, everyone I knew said I shouldn't believe a word of it. It seems like the guy is proven to be right again and again, and yet nobody apologizes to him for telling the truth (because he did it for the money), when they had no problem smearing him constantly when he first released it. I now think it wouldn't be that bad for Pujols to go down soon. That way, Thomas, Thome, and Griffey are basically the only 90's sluggers that wouldn't have been caught or suspected. All played for the White Sox and did it clean...that would be a great story.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) How does everyone think this will go over in comparison to Michael Phelps... will A-Fraud will lose sponsorships? Personally I feel steroids are much worse the recreational marijuana use... and maybe with the proximity of these two stories some ppl will be able to see that too. Who cares. One plays baseball, one swims. People only "care" about swimming once every four years, and then forget.

I just got back from Taken. It's basically the prototypical revenge flick. I enjoyed it a lot and I'd recommend it. The only real flaw is that it was PG-13. This was most likely done to draw a larger audience, but it really would've benefited from an R rating.

QUOTE (The Bones @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) I don't know about that. Slumdog seems to be a lock for Picture, Director, and Adapted Screenplay. Heath Ledger is a lock for Supporting Actor. I guess that the other acting races are pretty open though. Penn vs. Rourke, Winslet vs. Streep, and Supporting Actress I have no idea. I wouldn't say that Ledger is a lock. Rourke is more of a lock, I'd say. I'm sure Streep will win again, but this actually might be the year for Winslet.
  24. Pujols will test positive for something sooner or later, and that'll be the end of the theory that a clean guy is going to reclaim those records.
