QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) And the bench will lose its one and only 'speed guy'. The way I see it is just that there are better back-ups defensively at each position. But, I could definitely see Ozzie keeping him for his speed. And that would make me happy.

QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) i dont think theres any way they release pablo. at least i hope not! im thinking they think pods (maybe even uribe) wont be ready for the start of the season if i had to guess. As much as I absolutely hate to say it, Pablo looks to be the odd man out so far. If he's let go, it'll be Herbert Perry all over for me.
-
It seems like we now have a legitimate back-up for every single position. CF - Erstad LF/RF - Mackowiak/Erstad and possibly even Ozuna at times for LF (this is all when Pods is healthy again, of course) 3B - Cintron/Mackowiak SS - Cintron 2B - Ozuna/Cintron 1B - Mackowiak/Perez/Thome (if it's really necessary) C - Hall Still though, there are 26 players and only 25 spots.

Bears bashing boggles the mind

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) It was clearly 95% the OC's fault. I doubt Rex called for Benson to come in the game and fumble, which I believe was the most crucial moment in the game. And I doubt the OC called for Grossman to fumble two snaps and also throw two INT's, but he did. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) This is about the only player in the White Sox organization that has actually played OF that would probably play a worse LF than Pods. I'm just assuming right now, which is probably a mistake, but he's 37 (38 in September) and he blew out his achilles once upon a time. The only reason he's played 71.1 innings in the OF over the past 3 years is to get his bat in the lineup, because that's how valuable managers feel he is against LHP. I don't blame said managers, but you really shouldn't even expect more than 5 games out of him in the OF, otherwise he could get hurt in no time. Regardless of that, this is an outstanding signing. The Sox may actually have a pretty damn good offense this year, and they might be able to actually hit both lefties and righties. So, does this make the Sox bench the best in (AL/MLB) going into the year again this year? Cuz I kinda think it does. The only real huge weakness on the bench is that there isn't a super speed guy who can steal a base (Ozuna has the speed, but lacks the stealing), but that plays such a small role that it's not worth digging for it. We'll always have the bottom of the 9th in game 2 of the ALCS. I actually think this bench is fairly incredible in comparison to other teams. I think we've really improved on last year's offense as a whole, which was a pretty damn good offense to begin with. I'm just worried about the bullpen, although I have this strange feeling that they'll be great.

How'd he hit against Buehrle?

Congratulations. I'd say at least 300 of those posts were quality

Bears bashing boggles the mind

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) The Chargers had a terrible super bowl team that one year they got in and took the biggest beating ever from the Niners. I'd like to say 94 but I may be wrong. That bulls***, in the beginning of the game the Bears had the opportunity to turn that game into a potential route. We had the early TD, a stupid ass coverage mistake and a couple horrific turnovers (The Rex & Gilmore fumbles were pathetic) while the Benson fumble I give the Colts credit for. Early in that game the Bears had a few chances to give themsleves a very good size lead and at that point we'd have been able to start controlling the situation and would have put Peyton into a much more pass happy offense which is exactly what I would have wanted. The Bears instead failed upon those opportunites (the early fumbles we had forced) by just making absolutely awful turnovers (Grossman & Gilmore's early on). I'm sorry, but nobody will ever convince me that that game is anything less than 80% Grossman's fault. Solely responsible for 3 turnovers is insane. -
Konerko, AJ, Iguchi, Uribe, Crede, Cintron, Ozuna, Thome, Hall, Pods, Anderson, Erstad, Dye, Mackowiak Buehrle, Contreras, Garland, Vazquez, 5th Starter, Jenks, MacDougal, Thornton, and the other 3 relievers (whoever they may be) That's 25 right there. If Perez is to make the team out of the gate, somebody's gotta go.
-
Wow, I was just talking to a friend yesterday about Perez being the only FA available that I'd have even the slightest interest in.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) He's played a total of six innings outside of catcher in his career. He won't provide depth unless the White Sox get into another one of those games where like last year in Oakland where Jermaine Dye was the short stop. Didn't Widger play 3rd, too? I think he meant as a DH, though. I can't really see him getting into a game at 1B.

Bears bashing boggles the mind
Milkman delivers replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The Bears lost by 12 against a heavily-favored Colts team. Our QB was responsible for 4 turnovers by himself. Nobody can tell me that we couldn't have won that game. I hear people saying we had no chance from the beginning, but that's hot garbage. If our QB doesn't give the ball to the defense FOUR f***ing times, we probably win that game. EDIT: Sorry, he was responsible for 3 turnovers. We recovered the one fumble. But fumbling 2 snaps in one game is laughably terrible. -
Well, I doubt Ozzie would ever replace the catcher for fear of an injury. But, I absolutely love this signing. It just works in so many different ways. I hope he even gets a chance to DH once in a while against tough lefties.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) 1 nomination. 1 win. Flawless. And whoever doesn't want to drink with me is foolish. Greasy, you're coming out tonight, damnit. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56582 You were nominated there, too. -
QUOTE(shoota @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 06:38 PM) I'm still hoping KW signs a veteran. I haven't heard much interest in Cory Lidle, so maybe KW can work under the radar. He could be the impact player to pilot us to the playoffs. Oooohhhh...terrible

Just wondering here. The "I told you so" award. Does that mean the people who got nominated often say something like that, or does it mean that people usually say something like that to them for being wrong? Because I am literally always wrong, so I don't get to say "I told you so" very much at all. Also, keep voting for me. I wanna be remembered for something -
Reds give Harang 4 years, 36.5 million deal

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 02:18 PM) Work took me to Cincy a few times last year and I was able to catch a few games there. It really is a band box where the ball FLIES out. After seeing games there, IMO, Harang can do some chunkin' to put those numbers up. And if I remember correctly, he hurled a pretty nice game against us when we were absolutely crushing the ball. -
I thought Hulk Hogan died. And it scared the s*** out of me.

QUOTE(shoota @ Feb 3, 2007 -> 01:32 PM) I've just discovered this award thread. Had I known about this earlier, I would have definitely nominated some posters for certain categories. I'll make sure to vote. To whoever nominated me for post of the year, thank you. edit: It's a shame santo=dorf wasn't nominated for a category like "best baseballer." I could see him winning a category titled "most independent thinker," or "poster with most supporting evidence." Honorary nomination to beautox and Milkman delivers for a great 2006. For? And thanks. -
Fields and Danks in 1st annual ESPN Scouts Inc. top 25

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 12:00 AM) I think what flash wants is a consensus list of the top LH prospects in baseball. The top 6-7, going by what I've seen collected over these intertubes, goes something like this... Elbert (Dodgers) Miller (Detroit) Danks (White Sox) Kershaw (Dodgers) Lofgren (Indians) Gio (White Sox) I feel like I'm missing someone there....Where the top three are the next wave of lefties that we'll see at the major league level, and are pretty much interchangable. Kershaw being the WUNDERkid, representing the best of the class that won't see the bigs for a couple more years. And Gio/Lofgren are the tops of the second wave behind the top 3. The Indians also have Sowers, who just lost his rookie eligibility, and would be ranked right in the middle of the top 3. He's just 3 months to a year a head of them reaching the majors, but profiles more as a Buehrle-type control artist rather than the strikeout guys on this list. Of course you could also toss Sisco back into this mix as a "hidden prospect." His stuff and success in his initial big league campaign would have him among the top 3. He just turned 24 a week or two ago. He's the same age as Sowers with about the same amount of succes at the major league level, but he's got better pure stuff. I really like what you said here. I take it you really liked KW's moves this offseason regarding the young pitching?
