  1. There's one where you put a napkin over the top of a glass of water, and basically chug the water through the napkin. I've actually seen it work, but I wonder if the napkin part is even necessary. Just guzzling a glass of water might solve the problem itself.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) No, I was right. Americans don't care about football. And I think I am clear as to why I don't like the move. People who will embrace this are the casual fans, thats a given. But for those who love the sport, watch it, and follow it, it's a scar on the sport. Thats right, I can't read, so I must not know anything about soccer. Just for s***s and giggles... Since the MLS started in 1996, the highest average attendance is the LA Galaxy which averages 21,677 per game. And for 7 years, they played in a 92,000 seat stadium. This just reaffirms my position. "If their goal is to take the Cubs approach (f*** winning, lets spend and get people to watch) then good for them. But if their trying to improve the league and actually make it worth watching, then they are failing horribly." And if their main goal is just to get more fans, good luck to them... People aren't just going to suddenly be hardcore fans. You gotta start somewhere, and that's by getting casual fans to watch. And maybe eventually they'll become true fans...or their children will.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 01:42 PM) Your talking about Batistuta or Okocha or Borgetti going to the Middle-East, but they still aren't getting the money (not even close) to what the MLS is dishing out. Most of the players go there because other top-tier teams don't want to take a chance on them or because they want to be the main guy for 1 year and retire. Borgetti and Okocha left Bolton because they didn't want them anymore. Borgetti didn't get big money...thats why he plays for Cruz Azul now. The only player I can thnk of that went mainly for the money is Figo. Al-Aittihad offered him the biggest contract in Arab history. Even if they do go for the money, they aren't getting the attention they would get in the US. If their goal is to take the Cubs approach (f*** winning, lets spend and get people to watch) then good for them. But if their trying to improve the league and actually make it worth watching, then they are failing horribly. And as far as compring it to a top tier league, fine then...I'll compare it to the 2nd league in England. Sunderland still gets 40,000+ per match, Southhampton gets 30,000+, Leeds gets 30,000+, Derby gets 30,000+, Sheffield gets up to 40,000. Like I said, everywhere else in the world, it's about passion, tradition, history, pride, etc. In the US, no one gives a s*** about football. Look at who goes to the games...Mexican immigrants, Polish immigrants... First of all, Americans absolutely love football more than any other sport. They just don't care for soccer too much. Second, nobody goes to soccer games here. You're right. Now they're signing guys who just might attract some fans and popularize the sport at least a little, and you're pissing on it? I don't understand why someone wouldn't embrace a move like this.
  4. What is our payroll for 2007 going to be?
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) It just doesn't make any sense. -Sox have an unbelievable year in attendance in 2006, drawing 2.9 million fans. -Sox sign Darrin Erstad and Toby Hall. Give Macdougal an extension. Give a few players small raises. -Sox have what is said to be a "97%" renewal rate on season tickets for 2007. Raise ticket prices, have already sold out 6-7 games, and look like at least 2.5-2.6 is a lock for next season. -We are already getting quotes about the Sox big 3 FA's after 2007 exploring Free Agency. I never, EVER had an idea of this organization being cheap in anyway, but the last few months have really put a bad taste in my mouth. I hope Kenny and the organization surprises me, and I think there is a good chance they will, I just don't like where things seem to be headed. Am I missing something? No, I was just trying my hardest to come up with something to defend KW. I've come to trust him more than anyone else in the organization, so I'm willing to go out on a limb with him.
  6. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 11:08 AM) i just remember in 2000 when we played the Cubbies and he and Sosa had an epic battle in the 9th, which ended with a Sosa bomb to tie the game. Then, the game went i think 13 innings and we won on a Herbert Perry double down the 3rd base line that scored Durham (or it was the other way around, i can't remember.) But, I just remember how happy I was at the stadium that day. Other way around...that's one of my favorite Sox moments ever. It's even in my profile.
  7. I'm thinking maybe KW expects the market to go back to normal this offseason. That way, these guys can go out there and realize they're not going to get as much money as they previously thought they would, and maybe they'll re-sign for a fair contract. If KW offers them what he considers a "fair" contract today, it might seem like they're being lowballed. If he actually expects the market to return to some form of normality, he can offer them the exact same contracts and it won't be a slap in their faces? I'm really just stretching to make some sense of this. I just have to trust KW.
  8. QUOTE(bad at best @ Feb 17, 2007 -> 07:29 PM) Thome may make it, depends on injuries, etc. I dont think anyone from the 2005 team will come close. I kinda like that though. They'll be remembered by us, thats about it. Pretty sure i'll still be able to rattle off the players on the 2005 team when i'm 80. Thome's a lock.
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 17, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) I don't see Zidane coming out of retirement to come to the MLS. That would out a big asterisk next to his legacy. Like shipps said, his best years are behind him. If he does sign, I would truly feel sorry for him and for the sport in general. If it's going to come down to dishing out all sorts of millions just to get some names, then it takes a lot away from the tradition and history of the sport. Tradition and history apparently aren't drawing fans. It's a business.
  10. QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 06:16 PM) Yeah, I just listened to it as I was playing PS2. The guy who loaded it is a Mother Canucker! I was there in person for the match in your avatar. It was probably the best match I've ever seen live.

I must know who else voted for .38 Special because you're awesome.
  12. I'm gonna go with the Yankees just because I can't even remember the last time they didn't win that division.
  13. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) I think Perez is insurance and unlikely to make the ML roster I doubt that, only because I can't imagine there's no other team out there for which he could at least platoon.
  14. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 06:17 PM) The Orioles are snakebit again. I think they will probably find some scrap heap pitcher, like Steve Trachsel to take his place, but damn, Anna must be pissed... Oh wait, he gets paid anyway, she's fine. Thought they got divorced? If ESPN's FA tracker is to be believed, Trachsel and Redman are still available. They'll probably sign one or the other.
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) Looks like KW has recognised our weakness against tough LHP against the likes of Santana, Sabathia etc. and has decided to do something about it. As Keith said, trade Podsednik. Trade his ass with a prospect for Linebrink. Get Perez on the bench, work a Machowiak / Erstad rotation in LF. Too many times we have laid a goose egg against these tough lefties. Now with Perez and Hall possibly in the lineup, it gives us 2 guys who can hit lefties and OPS's over .800 against them (I think Hall has an .800OPS against lefties, but not 100% sure). In those tight ballgames, having 2 extra guys who can hit LHP well could make a big difference in a tight division race when it's all said and done. Problem is that they're both lefties. And I must admit, I really questioned KW's return on Garcia and his trading of McCarthy...but I'm really starting to like the look of this team going into 2008 and beyond. And if he can turn Pods into something decent and have a platoon in LF, I'd be ecstatic.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) And the bench will lose its one and only 'speed guy'. The way I see it is just that there are better back-ups defensively at each position. But, I could definitely see Ozzie keeping him for his speed. And that would make me happy.
  17. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) i dont think theres any way they release pablo. at least i hope not! im thinking they think pods (maybe even uribe) wont be ready for the start of the season if i had to guess. As much as I absolutely hate to say it, Pablo looks to be the odd man out so far. If he's let go, it'll be Herbert Perry all over for me.
  18. It seems like we now have a legitimate back-up for every single position. CF - Erstad LF/RF - Mackowiak/Erstad and possibly even Ozuna at times for LF (this is all when Pods is healthy again, of course) 3B - Cintron/Mackowiak SS - Cintron 2B - Ozuna/Cintron 1B - Mackowiak/Perez/Thome (if it's really necessary) C - Hall Still though, there are 26 players and only 25 spots.
  19. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) It was clearly 95% the OC's fault. I doubt Rex called for Benson to come in the game and fumble, which I believe was the most crucial moment in the game. And I doubt the OC called for Grossman to fumble two snaps and also throw two INT's, but he did.
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) This is about the only player in the White Sox organization that has actually played OF that would probably play a worse LF than Pods. I'm just assuming right now, which is probably a mistake, but he's 37 (38 in September) and he blew out his achilles once upon a time. The only reason he's played 71.1 innings in the OF over the past 3 years is to get his bat in the lineup, because that's how valuable managers feel he is against LHP. I don't blame said managers, but you really shouldn't even expect more than 5 games out of him in the OF, otherwise he could get hurt in no time. Regardless of that, this is an outstanding signing. The Sox may actually have a pretty damn good offense this year, and they might be able to actually hit both lefties and righties. So, does this make the Sox bench the best in (AL/MLB) going into the year again this year? Cuz I kinda think it does. The only real huge weakness on the bench is that there isn't a super speed guy who can steal a base (Ozuna has the speed, but lacks the stealing), but that plays such a small role that it's not worth digging for it. We'll always have the bottom of the 9th in game 2 of the ALCS. I actually think this bench is fairly incredible in comparison to other teams. I think we've really improved on last year's offense as a whole, which was a pretty damn good offense to begin with. I'm just worried about the bullpen, although I have this strange feeling that they'll be great.
  21. How'd he hit against Buehrle?
  22. Congratulations. I'd say at least 300 of those posts were quality
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) The Chargers had a terrible super bowl team that one year they got in and took the biggest beating ever from the Niners. I'd like to say 94 but I may be wrong. That bulls***, in the beginning of the game the Bears had the opportunity to turn that game into a potential route. We had the early TD, a stupid ass coverage mistake and a couple horrific turnovers (The Rex & Gilmore fumbles were pathetic) while the Benson fumble I give the Colts credit for. Early in that game the Bears had a few chances to give themsleves a very good size lead and at that point we'd have been able to start controlling the situation and would have put Peyton into a much more pass happy offense which is exactly what I would have wanted. The Bears instead failed upon those opportunites (the early fumbles we had forced) by just making absolutely awful turnovers (Grossman & Gilmore's early on). I'm sorry, but nobody will ever convince me that that game is anything less than 80% Grossman's fault. Solely responsible for 3 turnovers is insane.
  24. Konerko, AJ, Iguchi, Uribe, Crede, Cintron, Ozuna, Thome, Hall, Pods, Anderson, Erstad, Dye, Mackowiak Buehrle, Contreras, Garland, Vazquez, 5th Starter, Jenks, MacDougal, Thornton, and the other 3 relievers (whoever they may be) That's 25 right there. If Perez is to make the team out of the gate, somebody's gotta go.
  25. Wow, I was just talking to a friend yesterday about Perez being the only FA available that I'd have even the slightest interest in.
