2006 MLB Catch-All Thread
Every time I see Nick Swisher play, I end up saying to myself that he has to be the dumbest baseball player I've ever seen.

Arrest in the Jon Benet Ramsey Murder?
QUOTE(Soxy @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) I can't say I'm surprised at all by the latest twist. . . Sucks for the family, I really feel for them to feel like they might have resolution and then have that snatched away. . . It really sucks for the family in the sense that this other guy isn't guilty of the crime they almost definitely committed. And does this guy get some sort of punishment for lying about something of this magnitude?

Tiger calls for steroid testing
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) I dont see where he suspected steroid use in golf. Nobody is going to say, "this sport is dirty." If he's calling for testing, then he's ::winkwink:: saying it.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) So people complain when pods is in the lineup along with complaining when the everyday lineup, including him, isn't used all the time... We'd still prefer some changes. Say Mackowiak/Gload in LF and leading off, and have them play almost all the time.

Perspective - the year after a playoff appearance is always a dissapoi
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) So it's October then? The outlook isn't good...but the season's not over, they're a half a game back of Minnesota in the Wild Card, and are still only 5.5 back of Detroit. This team is playing really good baseball right now...they're just not friggin winning the games. Almost all of that is on the pitching. We have to pitch. If we don't pitch, we are screwed. I say just wait it out and see where this team is come October 1. If we're not in the playoffs, than it's a huge disappointment, even if the Sox win 97 games. The story of the season. We've been waiting on the pitching to come around, and they haven't. I'm pretty sure it's not coming.

Tiger calls for steroid testing
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:16 PM) I would say if you compare all major sports on TV, golfers are by far in the worst shape out of all of them. Some of these guys are borderline obese. I dont know if I would suspect juicing in golf at all. Like I said, if the most prominent golfer of our day suspects steroid use in his sport, I'm going to believe there's a reason behind it.

The Marlins...Again!
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) Great's an understatement. Given, I don't think they are anywhere near .500 without the NL being as absolutely horrible as it is, but it's still really cool that a team can just absolutely dismantle itself other than the 2 pieces they want to build around, and still compete for a playoff spot. If this doesn't send a message to the Pirates, Royals, and Devil Rays, nothing ever will. You can compete, and you can compete with nothing for a payroll, so long as you have good scouting and a good manager. I suppose Larry Beinfest being a pretty good GM helps too. The Devil Rays are in a worse position than anybody else in baseball, IMO. They are never going to compete in that division with so many enormous payrolls in front of them. It's nice to think that one day they'll get into the playoffs, but it'll never, ever happen.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) That doesn't matter, they're not fighting for the play........ oh wait a minute... Yes, the series against the Sox is completely indicative of their starting lineup for the past 2 months.

Over/Under: Konerko hits 40 Homers?
QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:44 PM) Definitely under. Mid-30's. BTW, I believe that I was one of the few people who predicted that Thome wouldn't reach 50 this year. I guess many of us didn't forsee him hitting about 5 total homers in the second half.

24 games in 24 days: The tracker
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) I think the most interesting part of this is the Tigers story line... Is this the collapse that everyone was waiting for? Verlander seems to be getting hit much harder lately... Polanco being out has really seemed to put a kink in their line up... Maggs has been really quiet, especially for a guy making $15 million a year to pound the ball... Kenny Rogers has been really hot, he might be the only thing holding them into first place right now... It seems to be. Unfortunately, we've played almost as badly. I remember people saying earlier in the year that they're fine with the Sox having a rough stretch then instead of in August/September. The thing is that having a skid then didn't prevent us from doing it again later in the year.

The Ozzie Guillen Battleground Thread
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) Wealz, you still haven't answered my question how platooning Anderson with Mack back when he struggled actually helped his development. I also know you're a Kenny Williams hater, so it's really no surprise to me that you're putting all the blame here on Kenny. Cmon Kap, we just played a team that we were up a half game on coming into the weekend in the wildcard and Mack played 2 of those games. How much important can it get? I'll say it. KW had more to do with the Sox winning the WS than Ozzie did.

The Ozzie Guillen Battleground Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) I think it has more to do with Ozzie/KW not wanting to have to get rid of someone like Ozuna or Gload. I don't know why anyone is even arguing the point to this guy anymore. It's clear to 99% of the posters on this site. It's useless.

I'm really trying to figure out HOW you only have the regular starting lineup in there for six games in two months. Seriously, how the hell can you physically do that? It almost sounds impossible.

Tiger calls for steroid testing
Well, if the most prolific golfer of our time says that he wants to test for steroids in his game, then I'm inclined to believe there are abusers among the ranks of golfers.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) Aye aye aye... Do you people really know what's going on in the clubhouse? I don't give a rat's ass what's going on in the clubhouse. 6 times in 2 months? A few players better be dying to get that much rest. We're in a race just to get to the playoffs. Six f***ing times?

Whoa, this thread needs to be bumped. This, again, shows Ozzie's lack of urgency.

The Ozzie Guillen Battleground Thread
QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 03:51 AM) I'm going to be so pissed when Ozzie quits because of the crap thrown on him by the fans and media. Its alright, though. You can't take his rings. Ha, Ozzie has the easy life right now when it comes to the media. He gets no tough questions about on-field decisions at all. Grady Little was ridden out of town for one bad decision. Imagine if Ozzie had that kind of pressure on him. He'd of ran off with his tail between his legs already.

Game Thread: White Sox vs. Minnesota Twins
Remeber this date. On August 27 in aught-six, Mark Buehrle pitched over an error AND didn't give a lead right back in the same game.

You selfish motherf***ers. The pitcher drills our catcher to load the bases, and you GIDP weakly. I hope we drill Torii Hunter in retaliation.
