Viciedo to the 15 day DL
QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) It doesn't matter what he's thinking. The point is whatever he's thinking, and whatever he's doing, isn't working. My question is; Would it be advantageous for him to back away from the plate, in order to both neutralize the inside pitch, and increase the potential for hitting strikes to the left side? I'm still waiting for someone with a high baseball acumen to comment. Maybe Grady will reply.

Viciedo to the 15 day DL
QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 06:51 AM) Very seriously though, none of you baseball geniuses have yet to comment on my suggestion that Dunn try moving away from the plate. That would force pitchers to stop throwing inside to him, as those pitches would clearly be called balls. It would allow Dunn to start hitting the strikes away, to the giant hole on the left side of the field. It would reduce his home run production but it might eventually cause the opposition to stop using the shift. The other advantage is that Dunn would have more time to see the pitch, while waiting for it to get deep enough to take to left. That would most certainly help his miserable pitch recognition, at this point. very seriously, none of us including you know what Dunn is thinking at the plate, and none of us including you can make a definitive statement like " That would most certainly help his miserable pitch recognition, at this point." and presume to be right. So that is probably why none of us baseball geniuses have responded to it.

QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 03:42 PM) IIRC we told Tracy McGrady we weren't interested that same offseason Lol, you mean when they showed up at the airport with a bunch of confetti and a red carpet and let him throw out the first pitch at the sox game? Yea, not interested at all.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) Flowers throwed out at 2nd on a base hit.....................Dunn getting boo birds. Flowers got hung out to dry, that ball should have been caught. Tough to blame that on the runner

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) Yeah, that always works so well. The last time the Bulls front office pissed off a superstar, they ended up with Eddie Robinson because no superstar would even consider playing in Chicago It sucks what is happening with Rose, but many people said he wasn't gonna come back this season. They have gone this far, might as well finish off this clusterf*** how it started And for the record, you don't try and push across a message to the face of your franchise that you consider him replaceable.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) I say this as someone who like Rose quite a bit and enjoyed his season last year. They need to explore trade options with him. Make him aware that he is replaceable. See if a team will give them a huge pile of draft picks. He's lost his edge and needs a wake-up call. No, that is a terrible idea. You ride this out.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 07:50 AM) I'll relent on my desire to restrict gun ownership as long as you give me the ability to restrict the free speech rights of people like Michael Savage and Glenn Beck. Wait, so he is still insisting that the Saudi National is involved?

Explosions at end of Boston Marathon
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 03:37 PM) I like how Dad is saying they were framed. Framed people generally don't have guns and explosives on them, or shoot at cops. He also called the cops who shot his son "cowards." Yup, cowards for defending themselves when being shot at. Your sons are the cowards, and we're not afraid of your "hell to pay" after your other son ends up dead. Can you imagine the feelings of a father who had kids that perpetrated a crime like this? And seeing how these two apparently had some very strong anti US feelings, I am willing to place a strong bet that the apple doesnt fall far from the tree. In short, I dont expect their dad to say anything remotely sane QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) I'm happy that there is media coverage of this, but damn I bet those police officers are sick of worrying about the media following them everywhere. I think I would be more sick of worrying about a grenade being flipped in my direction first, and media following me second

How Much Rope Does Dunn Have?
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 09:06 AM) How much of these recent struggles have to do with management though? They wanted his approach changed to the point that now he isn't even taking walks. They want him more aggressive early in counts but that has never been what Dunn does. He works counts and hits mistakes a long way. He strikes out a s***load of times and his .obp the last 3 years has really stretched the acceptable levels of a true 3 outcome player. But Dunn has always hit 40 homers and walked over 100 times. That kind of production is very important. I just think changing his approach could correlate negatively with how many walks he takes if he is swinging earlier in counts. His White Sox career has not been too good but I find it funny that there are people who hated his game even when he was in Cincinnati. He was a monster. An awesome offensive force. That is what the White Sox paid for. They haven't gotten it but I completely understand and was jumping around like a schoolgirl the day he was signed. Its hard to pin this on management. When they got Dunn, they let him do what he always did, and it was an epic failure. At that point, they had no choice but to tinker

2013 Cubs catch all thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) Impressive. 3 straight losing seasons following a season with 83 wins, $30 million+ spent on Cubans, 2 straight drafts in the top 10 (will be 3 this year), and they're "top 15 in nearly every publication". I mean, that's amazing, all the way up to the middle of the pack despite losing year after year. Man, I'm jealous of how well run that franchise is. Just makes me want to have a losing team for half a decade too, so that we can be fringe-top-15 in nearly every publication. lol

Jordan Danks called up
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 06:18 PM) Omogrosso pitched some very important innings last year...where you were surprised Ventura had such confidence in him. Same with Septimo, before the Gonzalez homer. Omogrosso did not pitch important innings last year. Every game he pitched in september, except 2, were losing efforts. He was a roster expansion callup, and he pitched mopup late in games that the Sox were losing. And in the games he pitched in July for his short time up, he gave up 3 runs in 6.1 innings. Septimo was also used as mopup in september, although he was given even less rope and was only allowed to see 1 batter at a time after he blew up at Boston, and even then he was suspect. These guys were not the reason the Sox bullpen was considered good and deep, they were roster filler at the end of the season. And for the record, I dont hate Ommogrosso.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 12:41 AM) Can't believe how bad the 2008 draft has turned out. There's still time for a few guys (Hosmer for one). But for what was supposed to be one of the better classes of the last 15 years or so, most have been a major disappointment (sans Buster Posey). Interesting that you are giving hosmer a break when he is performing just as bad as the rest. The guy looks like a mess at the plate

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 10:57 PM) So Miami finishes the season winning 37 of their last 39 games. Only losses during said stretch were, of course, to the Bulls, and the Knicks (LeBron/Wade didn't play). Good luck rest of the NBA. f*** it. None of you have a chance. And J4L has delivered the kiss of death
