8/3 Wsox vs Royals: Richard vs Grienke 1:10

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) Tribe making things interesting, looks like Liriano is throwing quite a few pitches You have to wonder what kind of pitch count Liriano is going to be on. I was reading somewhere that Liriano was allowed to go back to his original arm slot to get the movement he used to have on his slider. If thats the case, his elbow is going to give again -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Yeah, since so many on this board ask Ozzie to keep starting pitchers in for longer than he does. At this point it doesnt matter, anyone he has put in has sucked. -

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) ...and only Gallagher is a starter on a real major league team. They dealt Harden for some trash. Murton played plenty in the last couple of years, and Patterson isnt all that bad either. If Harden were on the Sox people would be b****ing about how he taxes the bullpen because you cant pitch him past 5-6 innings, and how he is an injury waiting to happen, etc. Pretty much the same things they say about Griffey -

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:05 PM) Well, the Cubs got Harden for nothing so maybe we could have inquired about that. Even though they arent top level prospects, 3 of the 4 players had time in the majors with varying degrees of success -
QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) If our manager feels more comfortable playing Juan freaking Uribe ahead of Fields, why wasn't Fields used in any sort of package to bring us something useful for this season? He's the backup to our backup. If he isn't playing now, what is going to change next season? Because if Juan goes down, then we have no 3rd baseman?

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) right right, but he and ozzie know that he leaves as soon as Crede is good to go, so it'd be nice if everyone could get a better look at him, the only time he looked terrible was the game he had 3 k's, uribe came in for him and combined they got that golden sombero I know you like Josh, but he has K'ed 9 times in 20 at bats already, and has only taken 3 walks. Thats not great. I understand Juan isnt a great hitter either, but right now his glove is leaps and bounds better, and occasionally lately he is running into a fastball and actually hitting it -

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 11:54 AM) I still think Fields should be out there. Yeah Uribe's glove is "fantastic" and what ever else, but it was just pointless in calling up Josh if he was just gonna keep Uribes buffet seat warm. Unfortunately Josh just isnt hitting. The hitch in his swing is just huge, and he is missing fastballs that he should be crushing. Until he starts mashing we are gonna see a platoon with him and Juan, and Juan is going to get more PT because of a far superior glove -
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25970479/ I wonder if their return to the market will have any lasting effect, or if they are just a small nostalgic jump in sales

What player would you most like to have seen play for Sox?
Kyyle23 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (The Beast @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) I wish I could have seen... Sammy Sosa (I wish I was old enough to remember seeing him play with the Sox---I wish the Sox never traded him and that he did wonderful things for us.) Roger Clemens (We got Navarro instead.) Mike Sirotka (I always thought he was exciting to watch.) Frank Thomas (1993, 1994 seasons) Eric Gagne (We drafted him at one point.) Ichiro Suzuki John Lackaff (A guy from my area drafted by the Sox at one point.) Kevin Dubler (Who knows if he'll ever make it, I just covered him as a reporter for my high school's newspaper.) Michael Jordan (I was too young to care about baseball then.) The wasted draft picks on the kids of the White Sox, so then I could laugh at them. (Williams, Guillen, Schaffer?) Alex Rodriguez (Meh. He still pisses me off to this day.) Josh Hamilton (Today's Josh Hamilton or the Hamilton of 1999.) Mark Prior (A healthy Prior) I dont really understand this one? Do you wish Sirotka stayed? Stayed Healthy? Were you unable to watch him for some reason? As Sox fans, we got to see the best of Mike, he really never pitched in the majors again -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) No Thome? Hmm. Its 115 degrees on the field right now. I dont really mind seeing some of the older guys getting time off on days like this -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) My guess if Favre ends up cut right at the end of camp. Doing that would save Green Bay money, and it would also make it difficult for Favre to go somewhere else and start right away. It would make Green Bay look bad doing that, but they already have looked terrible and probably don't care at this point. It seems like they have wanted to manipulate Favre's legacy as only in Green Bay while not letting him play again this season, but it clearly hasn't worked. Then again, Favre deserves blame too for deciding to retire and then changing his mind a short time later, like the drama queen idiot he is. There are no winners here. I dont really think Green Bay has looked terrible during this. Favre wants to have his cake and eat it too, and he has for the past 3-4 years. Its always the same, people start talking about his possible retirement midway through the season("this very well may be the last game Brett plays vs XXXX team", usually Chris Mortensen or Madden), followed by a bunch of vague one on one interviews with Bretts favorite reporters (Ed Werder, Mortensen, etc) where he hints that he is probably done, followed by a teary eyed finish to some game or another. Green Bay at some point had to put their foot down and say "enough". And they didnt force his retirement speech a few months ago, that was Brett's call, and he cried like a baby and told everyone he was retiring. Now he is mad that he isnt in the spotlight because he is living in the sticks of mississippi. TOO F***ING BAD BRETT. He signed his retirement papers, now he is totally sabotaging Green Bays attempt to move on after he retired, not because they cut him or released him, he retired. I dont care that Brett wanted Ted Thompson to do this or that and he didnt do it for Brett. Thompson is paid to be the GM, and he has rebuilt that team pretty damn well(as a Bears fan that is hard to admit) after Sherman had it run into the ground. This whole thing is all about Brett and nobody else, and thats what gets me.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) He's been re-instated by Commissioner Goodell. As of when? Last night after his quote where he said he would wait until monday? Goodell is ridiculous I think he gets traded. There is going to be so much drama in Green Bay this year if he stays

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) Why is this thread almost always locked? Its a running joke. One Mod locks it for his distaste in the thread, the other unlocks it to piss the other mod off

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 09:58 AM) Well apparently, he's coming back as he was just reinstated. Goodell was quoted last night saying he was going to wait to reinstate him until monday because Green Bay and Favre were still discussing options. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3516300

QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) Would love to see Brand New play also. Quite a few people I know from New York going across for it. We've got All Points West playing here next week in Jersey, Kings of Leon, Radiohead some of the bands playing. Im a huge Brand New fan. The song "Sudden Death in Carolina" is probably my favorite song that band has, with "Sic Transit Gloria......" a short distance behind.

If he really wanted to play he wouldnt take the payout. I think he wanted the extra money all along

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 07:13 AM) This is the game I expected us to lose as Greinke looks to be getting better and better overall as the year goes on. He would look great in our rotation. Hopefully Richard settles down. Maybe at home. He dominated the Sox last time in KC, but I dont think he got out of the second inning the following game at the Cell. He got bombed -
This story gets more an more f***ed up http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/08/02/canada...g.ap/index.html The guy was eating him after he decapitated him. And he did it in plain view of everyone. W. T. F!?!?!?!!?

It certainly isnt a turtle without its shell. Turtles dont just fall out of their shells as if it was a backpack, they are connected. When i first started looking at it I thought it was really strange, but the more I look at it I think its a raccoon or something. The picture is decieving, the lower jaw is disconnected and the angle shown makes it look more like the bottom of a beak. The top part also looks like a beak, but its most likely the bones in the snout starting to poke through because of wear from being in the ocean. Some kids were on CNN showing the bones of the "monster". I think you can watch the video on cnn.com still

every year you read somewhere "X player was put on waivers" and "X player was pulled back from waivers", is this an official release on MLB.com? Or is it leaked info? I have also read that there are many players that are put on waivers that you never hear about

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 01:58 PM) For some reason the McDounogh fawning over the cubs is getting to me. I understand that is the disposable income market they are looking for I just get the feeling that old school Sox fans are Hawk fans and old school cub fans are hillbillies that can only afford to back one team, the cubs. No reason for this line of thinking whatsoever. Well he used to be team president of the Cubs, so it kind of makes perfect sense. He is playing to a market that is familiar to him

I also disagree with Depp being the Riddler. Maybe its because I associate Depp with Tim Burton and Tim Burtons fantasy world, but I dont know that Depp's character acting fits in with Nolan's version of the Batman universe. I understand that the Riddler is quite the jester/light hearted type of criminal, but at the same time i dont see Nolan going in that sort of a direction. But i digress, there was lots of poo-pooing the choice of Ledger as the Joker, and that was a stroke of brilliance. I dont know that the Riddler is as much of a lock as we all think he may be. There are so many criminals to choose from, and Nolan already stepped out of the "knowns" in Batman Begins by starting with Ras Al-Ghul, so he could go in a completely different direction. Milkman, Knighni pretty much nailed it. there have been a few different variations of the backstory, but its generally the same. A genius who starts out trying to help people and gets twisted by his own genius, he loves to leave clues etc

People are probably going to kill me for thinking this way, but I think if the Sox can get through this stretch and maintain/stretch their lead, they are going to be much stronger for it. Right now everything is out of sorts due to injury, when the team was healthy they were performing much better. And the Sox have been a team of streaks, all year long, good and bad.

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) Anyone else heard the rumors that they are trying to line up Johnny Depp to play the Riddler in the next film? I think we are gonna hear lots of crazy rumors until a script is written and casting is official. Nobody saw Heath Ledger as the Joker, that was totally out of the blue
