QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Twins could be receiving catcher Drew Butera and outfielder Dustin Martin from the Mets in the Luis Castillo trade. That's it? The draft picks Castillo would have brought are far more valuable that those two. The Twins can't really be this cheap, can they? Butera, 23, has hit .231/.297/.344 between Single-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton this year. Martin, also 23, was hitting .287/.358/.421 for St. Lucie. Neither player projects as a major leaguer. Im done doubting Terry Ryans ability to assess minor league talent.

This whole voting for who is best is beneath us, if you ask me. This messageboard community knows how great it really is. I dont think I can find one site out there that is as good for such a diverse community of dedicated fans. No matter what happens in that vote, there is only one #1 in my book.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) It depends on who they put in CF next year. Someone who can cover ground and can get good jumps. Hunter comes to mind. Not that they are going to shell out the dough...but a good CF can definitely shore up the corner spots. And the Red Sox are doing just fine with Manny being Manny out there in LF. Damon was good when he was with them and Crisp can throw the leather. Fields/Hunter/WMP wouldn't be great, but it'd be better. From the small sample I have seen of WMP this year alone, WMp makes Manny look like a GG outfielder

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) With prancer, not catching flyballs, and heading balls instead of catching him, how much worse can he be. At least when he hits the ball it goes far. I hate strikeout guys as much as the next guy, but we have prospects that strikeout a lot and not hit a lot of homers. At least if you are going to swing hard for the fences, hit a dong from time to time. im not comparing him to Pods, I didnt say he would be our best OFer going into next year. His defense definitely has to factor into the equation, if he is giving up runs by being that bad I see a problem. I think KW could do better than putting WMP in the OF next year
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) Who cares if he strikes out a bit? If it means he's taking strong cuts and is hitting 20-30 homers, I could care less. And his defense?
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:19 PM) Where are you getting Hansen from? From all reports it's either Delcarmen or Masterson. Masterson would rank in the top ten prospects in the Sox farm system, and Wily Mo would rank right now as the best OFer we have heading into 2008 (sad as that may seem). WMP is also one year removed from a very good season. I'd much rather have that than two draft picks, neither of which would be in the 30 (I think it's more likely that Dye signs his last big contract with a 'winning' team). Best what? Hitter? Maybe, but still doubtful as the guy strikes out a ton. And his defense is nothing short of atrocious

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:10 PM) Sad...but he's no longer in pain. They need to name a trophy or something for him. He absolutely changed the way football is played. RIP. Does the Coach of the Year trophy already have someones name associated with it? -
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 01:58 PM) Mahay is going to Atlanta with Tex. duh. read the link Kyle.

R.I.P. The man had a lengthy battle with Leukemia, he is in a better place now. -
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 01:51 PM) i still don't understand boston's need for dye. You just cannot trust JD Drew to stay healthy for an entire year. If you have Drew and Dye interchanging in right field during the year, and also have Dye, Drew and Ortiz changing places at DH during the year, the Red Sox would have a much better chance of finishing the year with all three players reasonably healthy going into the playoffs. I dont like it because i dont like the BoSox, but I think this move makes perfect sense for the Red Sox

Hmm, Texas getting Saltamacchia also improves the Cubs chances of dealing for Mahay and Laird. I wonder if Pie will end up being another "One who got away"?

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 09:30 AM) WrestlingGoneWrong.com - Perry Saturn punishes Mike Bell. Some say this is why he was saddled with the Moppy gimmick as punishment. hmmm, for some reason the video wont load for me, im getting the angry red X

Just on the hypothetical side, if LaRussa came back and managed I wonder if he would retain Cooper as his pitching coach or if he would bring Dave Duncan along with him. Hawk was talking some serious trash last season about Duncan, I can only imagine what he would or wouldnt say about him if he was with the Sox coaching staff

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/base...illo/index.html Wasnt Ruben Gotay a starter for the Royals at one time? Is he still considered a rookie?

QUOTE(LukeGofannon @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 08:08 AM) Like Bonderman? No, I think Bonderman is recovering from pitching more innings than he ever has. Ledezma has mental problems and was a reliever/spot starter. His mechanics and confidence are his problems, not fatigue. If the Sox could take a flyer on this kid, I cannot say i would be dissapointed. Like mentioned earlier, he could come in sometimes and flat out dominate, and other times he would just get kilt as Hawk likes to say

Michael Vick Accepts Plea Deal Per ESPN
Kyyle23 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) Vick is f***ed...plain and simple. Right off the bat Vick threw those guys under the bus and tried to pin it all on them. I dont know what he expected, but I thought they were going to turn on him one by one. I dont think Taylor is going to be the only one that turns on him either. -
QUOTE(juddling @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) Anyone want to take bets on which game knocks Mike Brown out for the year?????? Yeah, I know he is injury prone. He is also playing for a last big payday, and knows he needs to stay on the field. Im also happy knowing that Danieal Manning and Chris Harris had plenty of opportunity to start and get that time under their belts.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 09:38 AM) If ANY year is the Bears' year, this is it. You didn't even mention Greg Olsen! Thats because i was talking about the defense.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 03:42 PM) Some indy jobbers are complaining that LAX is "unprofessional". http://web.charleston.net/news/2007/jul/29...ures_mack11694/ My favorite part is the jobber team complaining that they like to work stiff with other workers all the time but then complained when they got stiffed by Homicide and Hernandez who gave them a purple welt and a stiff Border Toss. If this isn't the first time the guy has had a collapsed lung, then perhaps he should think about not taking dangerous bumps or being a stiff wrestler who then complains when he gets stiffed back. The article does a great job defaming LAX. But I wonder if LAX knew that these two guys were going to try to stiff them in the ring or not in advance. I can see it being surprising and getting stiffed can cause people to get pissed off (see Saturn vs Jobber where he legit kicks the s*** out of him and throws him outside of the ring landing on his neck). And who is to say the guy just didn't take the move properly? Why blame Hernandez if the other guy can't take the elevated bump properly? But it was a bit asshole-ish for Hernandez to not check up on them after the match. Is there a video of this somewhere?
