  1. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 13, 2007 -> 07:16 AM) Very well...and I'll continue to say that we're not in that top or elite group with Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, and possibly the Yankees and Angels. We're very similar to the A's, if I had to make a comparison. I didn't think Minnesota would struggle this badly. They will give it another month, but they have the same issue with Torii Hunter we have with Buehrle and Dye. Our offense is still the worst in the AL after the last 2/3rd's of a season. It's difficult to argue with that measuring stick. We're 4th in pitching, ERA-wise. I doubt we can be first, but we need to stay 3-5 in that area and get our hitting/runs scored somewhere around 7-10th in the AL to have any chance. Are we closer to being an "elite" team or a rebuilding team? I would say the latter. It's unfortunate, because we have the makings of a great bullpen, to go with our strong starting pitching. Crede, Konerko, Erstad, Dye and Iguchi have looked really bad recently. Iguchi, Crede and Konerko are all huge question marks to me. We can't win without at least two of those three guys hitting. We don't have anything close to resembling prospects at SS or 2B. The jury's out on Anderson and Fields as well, at best. What we do have is lots of pitching prospects, and the more legit prospects you have, the higher the odds that one or two will actually make it and become members of the rotation. I'm encouraged that Honel seems to coming back onto the radar screen as a prospect, and Danks has impressed nearly everyone. We went through a 167-95 stretch of play in 2005 and 2006 (until the All-Star break). We would have won 105 games last year if continued to play like we did in the first half (best offense in the AL). Obviously that didn't happen, for a number of reasons. Since then, we're 51-56. That's an incredible drop-off in the level of play. Which is the prevailing trend? Well, we'll find out in the next 6 weeks, but having KC simply hand us four games out of four doesn't mean we're a good team or that anything is "fixed." All I have to say about this is that there is more than "Elite" and "Rebuilding". I agree with a lot of the things you have said, but i remember much of the same things being said about the 2005 team for the entire year, all the way up to the first game of the playoffs. Sometimes you get the breaks, sometimes they get you. I really dont see a firesale happening. At all. This team would have to go on an extended losing streak for KW to even think about it.

    QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 13, 2007 -> 02:26 AM) kingpin is in jail ;p, and while it seemed a lot of people didnt like daredevil, i think Afflek was really good in it, now Colin Farrel Wow, I actually think the exact opposite. I think Affleck mailed it in for a quick paycheck and hoped that the franchise fanbase would push along a sequel. I think Farrell played a coldblooded killer who enjoyed his work pretty well.
  3. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 12, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) PK's been playing it for about 7 or 8 more years though. Didnt Erstad win a GG there?
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 12, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) You know you're going to see the hero cuts this inning. Too bad we can't have Sweeney/Erstad/Uribe up again... LOL, like the first swing Konerko took
  5. Mac finds his testes, places them in his jock, and finishes the inning. Nice
  6. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 12, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) I forgot to set the VCR on that one. I wanted to show my grandkids the epic showdowns between Gload and Sisco for the next year. Just curious about what Aardsma has to do to get booty. If he doesnt give up a run? if the team wins? i went to his myspace, the booty song by the Aardsmas is hilarious. And his girl is SMOKIN
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 12, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) So, I want Ryan and Juan at the plate at any given time right now, and that really feels wrong. but it still feels so right
  8. Juan has been so impressive this year, I am so happy for him
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ May 12, 2007 -> 08:44 PM) I'd do anything to have Gload back for Sisco. after that last strikeout, of course
  10. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 12, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) I've seen enough of Boone against lefties to trust him. Once he got a strike on Teahan I felt good. That's a major change from me thinking he was almost as good as automatic runs for the other team. i will reserve judgement until I see him face Hafner and put him down in the same fashion
  11. Boone has looked somewhat nasty the last two times he has come in (Morneau and Teahen)

    QUOTE(Brian @ May 12, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) Isn't that DareDevil? Spidey and Daredevil share a bad guy
  14. That was fun. Nothing like turning a 2 run lead into a 2 run deficit

    QUOTE(Shadows @ May 8, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) Its a movie thats why, the villians have to die.. Its not like a comic book where they can just keep coming back.. it was sad that venom had to die, but thats just how they have to do it for movies Venom isnt dead. If Green Goblins kid can take that explosion 10 inches from his face and only have a damaged eye and cheekbone(anyone notice how it didnt burn off his hair?), then Eddie Brock/Venom can survive that blast. Plus, there was no body. So that leaves the perfect "out" for Venoms return, PLUS it gives the writers an easy way to write in Carnage(ie. the explosion mutates part of the symbiote, it latches on to someone, blah blah blah). besides, no one ever truly dies in a comic book. They can write ANYONE back in. Its really funny how everyone I know who saw Spidey 3 said the same thing when he got the black suit. "Peter Parker went Emo". It was hilarious, even some kids sitting behind me in the theatre said it loud enough for me to hear.
  16. QUOTE(mreye @ May 11, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) kyyle, I still get sore from softball. You use diffeerent muscles. Thanks everyone. I almost forgot. Miller Lite had a booth set up at Mile 10 and were handing out cups of beer. Yes, you heard me right. I passed it up and decided to wait until after. The smell around that booth was nasty on a 75 degree day!! If I remember right, the biggest difference is that Softball/baseball(stop/start activity) is an Anaerobic sport vs running as an Aerobic(continuous movement/activity) sport(If I am using the wrong term, forgive me, I think we learned that stuff in gym class in high school). Going from standing still to a full sprint continuously just wears on my groin and hamstring muscles. You passed up free Beer? I just dont know you like I thought I did.....
  17. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 12, 2007 -> 09:04 AM) Bob, honestly, who cares what our former prospects do? The Sox have ZERO, NONE, NADDA control over prospects once they go to another organization. It's a double edged sword around here. KW trades a prospect and he turns into something = dumb move by KW KW trades a prospect and he turns into nothing = KW's farm system sucks. Ever hear of talking a player up and selling high on him? How about trading away a player because there are some hidden medical reasons or character issues? You honestly think Beane gives a rat's ass how Neal Cotts has only had one great year and ERA's of 5 every other year? Does Walt Jocketty lose sleep at night because the three guys he gave up for McGwire haven't done s***? Of course not. Preach on Brother!
  18. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 12, 2007 -> 07:31 AM) If you predicted the White Sox were going to have a 3.69 team ERA at this point in the season, I'd like to see where that appears. The fact of the matter is we still are far from a playoff team. If not for the Royals handing us 3 games, our record could easily be 2 or 4 games under .500. I think we can survive without Pods, but we need contributions from Thome and Hall for this offense to get corrected or there will be no way for us to keep up with DET and CLE, or the Yankees and Red Sox, for that matter. LOL, it isnt about his prediction, it is about yours. You made the thread, its a long season and it was a bit premature. You should expect these types of reactions.
  19. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 11, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) IS it really too much to ask to win a game 9 to 0 periodically? It doesnt matter, when we win games like that people are just gonna b**** about Corpseball being all or nothing. Winning close games are more important than blowing people out, although blowouts are more fun to watch
