Do you know what is Bullshit about the Illini
Kyyle23 replied to White Sox Josh's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 12:06 AM) Carr is one of the several guys out there that are not running dirty programs. So you know Jeremy Giambi AND Lloyd Carr? You have one impressive black book, I will give you that -
QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) It's Wendell Davis in Philly all over again. That was career ending. I feel this is more of a setback than a career ender. It is certainly not good though. he was on another level on sunday.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) Saw The Weather Man on Friday, not bad, kinda funny, but it felt... unfinished. I get that from alot of Nicholas Cage movies. i felt the same way after Matchstick men, The Family Man, any and all of his action movies (Con-Air, Face-off, etc..)

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) I doubt he'll take it seeing how Moose doesn't really bring much to the table. Tony Fisher isn't bad but he has better backs than that already on his team. You win that trade pretty easily IMO. Tony Fisher is the number 1 now, isnt he? Najeh Davenport is injured and Green is out for the year. Knowing how much the RB is a part of the offense in GB, I would think that Fisher would be a nice sleeper.

I think that JR is going to realize that the reward is going to outweigh the risk on moving the payroll up to around 90 million dollars. He has to realize that the Marlins model is not a model of consistency, it was more of a flash in the pan model because they elected to let their main contributors go the very next year, after both world championships. If JR wants things to keep moving up in terms of financial windfall and in terms of competitiveness, he is going to have to spend a little to make a little.

I dont know if any of you watch the CBS newscast around 5:30 on Saturdays, but me and my father were watching it, and the female anchor screwed up a segment really bad by going to the weather lady before the male anchor had a chance to do a quick segment on the recently voted "Top Ten Most Violent movies of all time". It was screwed up so bad, that only the first two were listed, and they were 1. Freddy vs Jason 2. Jaws now, I am not the biggest horror/gore fan in the world, but I know for a fact that those two movies would not be in my top ten(of what only I have seen), and Freddy vs Jason would barely make my Top 20. Off the top of my head I can think of some movies I have seen in the past 3 years that would go before those movies. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre House of 1000 Corpses The remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre(04) The Mask (the original) Faces of Death Toxic Avenger(Toxie may have been funny, but you cant take away the gore) Feel free to add on(I know there will be plenty). Sometimes i wonder who makes these lists.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) Illinois did the investigation and turned themselves in to the NCAA. Mason is no longer a member of the Illini as he was kicked off of the team. I stand corrected. I didnt realize that they had tried for the secondary violation which was changed to a major violation http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-illinois-print -

http://www.madison.com/tct/sports/general/...d=40294&ntpid=2 I think what you have here is One program (Illinois) who got caught, and didnt really do any attempt to cover it up. Then you have another program(Ohio St) who got torched by one of their own in Clarett. The only big problem here is that Clarett has little to no credibility, he is a proven liar, and a silver spooner who expects everything to go his way. Ohio St did an impressive job of damage control, switched the main focus to the improprieties going on in their basketball program, which could be blamed on a coach who was already gone. Troy Smith was suspended for taking $500. He missed a bowl game because of it. Remember that Clarett guy missing essentially the rest of his college career? yeah, thats punishment You should not write this.... .....And follow it with this^^ It makes your argument sound like a sour grapes/rivalry argument. AJ Hawk isnt involved in this at all. It doesnt take a genius to figure out that most, if not all, major programs pay players to come play at their school. The coaches play mad games of hide the ball when the auditors come looking, and sometimes they just cant cover up everything that these 18 year olds with superstar power and fame do with their considerable time off. The difference in these situations I see is that Ohio St came out and admitted their problems(admittedly, after they were about to get 'outed'), and Illinois got caught. -

QUOTE(valponick @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) The White Sox are substituting activity for performance, which is one of the last steps before "unemployment" for a baseball management team. When signing Jermaine Dye to a two-year deal is the good move of the winter, it's a very bad sign. Actually, that shorts the pickup of Tadahito Iguchi, who was kind of a Japanese Ray Durham. Keep in mind that Durham had his last healthy, effective season at 29; Iguchi turned 30 in December. Carlos Lee is now Scott Podsednik. Frank Thomas might be back in April, May or never. Aaron Rowand is presumably back, taking the place of the alien that played in his body last year. It's one thing to again hope that this is the year Joe Crede finds the keys; it's quite another to need it to be the case. The "small ball" concept should claim another victim this year. The pitching staff isn't going to make up for the falloff in runs scored. Freddy Garcia and Mark Buehrle are mid-rotation innings guys who get paid like aces. They head a rotation that's long on hope--not just one, but two Cubans with shaky recent track records exiled from the Bronx--and short on anything you can rely upon. The bullpen is better, with two legitimate studs at the back in Damaso Marte and Shingo Takatsu. Ozzie Guillen did an excellent job last year in funneling most of the relevant innings to his nine or so best pitchers, perhaps Guillen's signature skill aside from being quotable. It won't be enough to patch for what is going to be a bad offense. Projected standings: White Sox 71-91 749 856 - Joe Sheehan's Preseason Preview EDIT: If this has been posted sorry. This is why i would never be able to be a reporter or columnist for a national publication. No doubt I would write something stupid down like this, believe it, then go have to read it after the season was over and realize just how wrong I was.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) I've also seen the comments comparing the fans reactions in both situations. Thing is, IMO, I can't blame the Houston fans for not getting in the way. Uribe is a big guy, and if I had him running full steam at me, on a mission, I'm moving WAY out of the way!!! Not to mention that the Bartman play completely changed the mentality of fans who are near the field of play. People are very aware now that making an effort to get the ball from a player, even if the fan has the right to the ball, is not tolerated anymore and could get you kicked out of the park. I think fans who are close to the wall now are very aware of foul balls and players trying to get the balls. I think that Uribes catch and Alou's non-catch arent comparable plays only in the awareness that the common fan has now. Other than that, the circumstances of the play were very similar.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) but what's the reaction of your Cub fan co-workers? To the sports talkers? Complete and utter silence. My area coordinator sat in with me for training in early april, and ridiculed me for about 8 hours about how the Cubs were going to be better (Kerry Wood is better than Buehrle, Barrett is a better game-caller than that cancer pierzynski, Corey Patterson will be the best CF/Leadoff hitter in the game...etc.al) and that the Sox were a second class baseball team that should have moved to Tampa when given the chance, and I as a Sox fan was a second class citizen in my own town. I didnt say anything the entire year to him about baseball. i let him wallow in his own teams misery, while the Sox charged on throughout the year. On the day the Sox clinched, I sent him a screenshot of MLB.com saying the White Sox were champs, and nothing else. Today, I sent him an email with the subject heading "Did you see this?", along with an attachment of the front page graphic on ESPN.com, showing the Sox were champions. Then, nothing else. I thought I would show him a little respect, since he showed me none. I didnt rub it in, I didnt make fun of his team, I just showed him who the winner was.

Depends on the definition of "feared". Im sure super-agents like Rosenhaus and Bora$$ are plenty feared by NFL and MLB owners everywhere

If Garcia senses a pitchers duel, he morphs into an incredibly crafty and unpredictable pitcher. His problem is now and will always be the "big-game" stigma. if he feels the game isnt as important, then we seem to get the stinkers. If it means something, then we see all of the talent and execution.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 11:03 AM) I know I gave s*** so I am ready to accept my fate..GM!! J/k.. I let the pass cloud my present this past offseason. Even though it took 174 games to do it, you admitted you are wrong. That takes alot for anyone to do, and is commendable. Now, no more 27 page threads arguing that Kenny made all bad moves in the off-season.
