QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) And by "gutting" their farm system it appears they went to the World Series twice and the playoffs what four times in the last eight years? I'd take that in a New York minute. They took their turn dominating the division much like the Indians in the 90's and the Twins in the 00's and maybe the Royals right now. Geez...I wonder who is missing from that group? Mark How many world series titles do the Twins and Indians and Tigers have? My point was, Caulfield is acting like Detroit only spent money to win, when they didnt spend money until they traded for a transcendent hitter that they could build around, which they did. Your point is, the white sox suck. So thanks for that.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:23 AM) Umm...they traded two, Miller and Cameron Maybin. Drafted Verlander. Traded for Scherzer, that was a huge move. But, just as importantly, Ilitch became willing to spend money on guys like Victor Martinez, Cecil Fielder (turned into Ian Kinsler), Magglio Ordonez, Juan Gonzalez (turned down), Pudge Rodriguez, Carlos Guillen, Fister, overspent to draft Porcello, etc. Authorized more spending on Verlander/Cabrera (perhaps foolishly), Jordan Zimmermann, Upton, etc. Ummm they traded 6. None of the above crazy spending happens without Cabrera, which necessitated gutting their system at the time

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) Then how did it happen in Detroit? Ilitch spent the money, built a winner...and then the fans started showing up and became loyal customers. They didn't come out first and buy season ticket packages after having historically some of the worst seasons in franchise history, THEN he authorized spending the money. So we should say it could never happen with the Reinsdorf family still in charge of the team. That's all fine and good, maybe 17-18 franchises work in that same fashion. The other teams prioritize winning first, budgets second. They traded away their top 5 prospects for a once in a generation hitting talent.

For the first time since I started fostering dogs, we took in a mother dog with puppies. While it has been interesting and the puppies are really cute, holy s*** is it a lot of work.

QUOTE (Coach @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 06:11 AM) Over the weekend, a Sox reporter stated Erik Johnson will someday be a good pitcher but just not on the White Sox. I asked him why. I am still waiting for an answer. Anyone want to comment? Please feel free. I dont agree with the reporter, but i suppose the reasoning would be that he gets a clean slate with a new team that believes in him. My problem with him is the Sox believed in him and gave him multiple chances that he just couldnt do anything with, and his stuff just disappeared. If he finds his velocity again, maybe he will be a good pitcher. But if he is still throwing his flat fastball 89-91, with mediocre control, he isnt gonna be much of anything.

I thought McShane had a bigger character role. Good episode though, I really enjoyed it -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) With the sheer amount of wear and tear on his body since 2006, it's remarkable both Verlander and Felix Hernandez are still as effective as they are at this point. The same thing is happening with James Shields. When you throw over 200 innings (unless you're Mark Buehrle) for 9 consecutive seasons, it's going to keep eroding your stuff. It was inevitable physically, except almost no pitcher can make adjustments in their mid to late 30's and emulate Bartolo Colon in reinventing themselves, especially not keeping themselves in tip top physical condition. A gradual decline, sure, but that core muscle injury was a workout injury. That isn't something you can count on as inevitable
-
I wonder where Verlander would be right now had he not injured his core muscle(s?) a few years ago. It very obviously changed things, it still is a mystery exactly what happened but I bet calisthenics with Kate was the cause.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 11:34 AM) Did the same thing with emission test notices for cars. Waited 45 minutes in line at the Schaumburg emissions place for a 2 minute check. Unreal. That place is a madhouse. I went on a Tuesday at 10 am once and waited an hour

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) Because Robin is a f***ing, incoherent moron that doesn't care to look at matchups or statistics when creating a lineup. /thread You need to simmer down lately, black cloud

It was impressive that he hung on, his head snapped back after the collision. I'm sure he was on another planet for a little while

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 04:47 PM) Abreu constantly getting jammed by inside and low heat...can't turn on it yet. Sale hasn't been using his best fastball for the last 2-3 games. Has been topping out closer to 94-95 than his customary 97-98 mph for big situations. That's been all season, dude -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 05:58 PM) That's actually pretty impressive, that he could pick up on that with Beckham, Viciedo, Brian Anderson and Josh Fields while being stone-cold drunk half the time. He wasn't drunk at the park during work time, Caulfield. It wasn't like he was managing trashed
