June 22nd Game Thread: White Sox @ Red Sox 6:10 CT

Nice K by Ynoa to end it -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) Wins are very important. I love how the sabes people love their advanced stats and yet the established baseball announcers and former players who are color analysts ONLY mention the traditional stats - wins, losses, ERA, strikeouts, walks. That said, I wish we'd trade Q to a team that could score him some runs for his sake. It's like Pavlov here - Q on the mound, the hitters don't hit. greg, this is the second time i have seen you use Pavlov in an example today. Thats just strange

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) K.C. Johnson @KCJHoop 9m9 minutes ago Bulls knew they had to address Rose-Butler dynamic. They also knew Rose was walking in 17. Hmm, didn't know it was a foregone conclusion that Rose was going to walk after next year. If that was the case, at least Bulls got something for him. Hmm, that kind of tells me that Butler is going nowhere. KC usually gets his stuff from the FO

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) LMAO just so we are clear...you arent a fan of this trade, right bmags? BMADS

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) Something tells me that he wont' miss as many games next with it being his contract year. Something also tells me that his recent complacent/lackadaisical style that was on full display last year is closer to what you are gonna get from Rose, as opposed to the cold blooded killer we saw in the first four years. Im disappointed in the bulls, but this is the beginning of ripping the band aid off

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) Does he have control over how many runs the other teams score? I'm sure the lack of run support changes the way he pitches and a great deal of support would change the way he pitches as well. for the Garland case, maybe he had really good run support so to help the team he gave up some runs but stayed in games longer to save the bullpen and help win other games later. He may have been able to have better stats if he just left the game because he wasn't pitching as well. There are situations where pitchers stayed in games to do this and sacrificed stats. That doesn't happen as much now with the emphasis on the stats. however, this is part of the evolution of the game with 4 man pitching staffs to 5 man staffs and to the increased emphasis on the bullpen. doesn't mean i have to like it though I mean, you are just being incredibly obtuse about this in order to say Wins matter. Quintana has been on an incredible run where he is giving up 3 runs or less and losing or getting no decisions because the White Sox scored a total of 5 runs over a span of 7 starts. Quintana IS controlling other teams, and the one element out of his control is hanging losses on him.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) Yes, because wins don't matter in baseball. The teams with the highest WAR make the playoffs. Wins matter in the standings, not so much in a pitchers record. But you can go ahead and think that Quintana is as good as his W-L record indicates
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 09:13 AM) Johnson should have an advantage being able to go to the NL and to pitch in one of the most pitcher friendly stadiums in the league. If he doesnt see any success in San Diego he just isnt ever going to. It hasnt been better so far.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 09:08 AM) I wondered the same thing, but thought maybe that was on purpose. Sansa is the "new" generation of Starks. She's not making the same honor/pride mistakes that her father, brother and step-brother have made (or keep making, in the case of Jon). More likely though it was for the sake of audience satisfaction, since Ramsay really wasn't that much of a villain in the books. Very good point as well. And think about what Sansa has seen and been through since she left Kings Landing, her dad was beheaded in front of her by her husband, her mom and brother murdered at the Red Wedding, she has been given to Ramsay as some sort of prize and he did whatever he did to her. She probably has zero sympathetic bones left in her body. -

I agree that it was un-stark-like, but at the same time with everything he did to her and her family I will excuse her for letting the sadistic side of her come out. And yea, Jon being buried under all the people made me and my wife cringe too. Very claustrophobic -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 07:36 AM) Well, we'll see. Cooper wanted nothing to do with Johnson. He's pleased with Shields' side sessions. We'll see which pitcher under which coach gets better. We'll see if Cooper still has the magic (that is continuously touted but hasn't been apparent in a decade). Now Cooper didn't make the trade - that was Rick Hahn. So Shields needs to be a lot better for it to make sense and to be a rare positive in the Hahn ledger. Johnson s*** the bed every time he came up. That isnt on Cooper, thats on Johnson. Dude has given up 10 homeruns in 4 starts this season. But please, continue on with your extended whine.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 04:12 PM) He could play over Lawrie or Frazier from time to time. Neither of those 2 are hitting. Either could use a rest. Not everyday; but sitting him for a week is ridiculous. He has subbed each of the past 3 games, just like his job description says. Don't fret -

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) Reading 101. I said Q will not bring as much as Sale in a trade. The 4 minor league prospects might get Q but not Sale. Hard to read past you using Wins as if it matters
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) You are not getting core players from any team in contention. They are not going to create a hole to fill another one. Like I said, then have fun with Wright and Buchholz. You have to pay to play, there is zero reason for he White Sox to take anything less than an elite package for Sale
-
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 12:10 PM) 1. The Red Sox are not trading Bogaerts. He is untouchable. Now Betts or Bradley could probably be had in a Sale trade and to a lesser degree for Q. Q has great stats but his consistent inability to win on a team where Sale does win makes him a step down from Sale. Q might be more likely for the minor league players in a trade. Sale has to bring one stud ML starter and prospects. Bradley has more value than Betts 2. Red Sox have decided Swihart is better off in the outfield than catching. I trust their opinion more than the White Sox scouts after the Shields debackle. 3. Must get a high ranked Boston pitching prospect back in a trade. A stat dependent on his offense isnt going to drag down his value. Everyone in the league knows how good he is, it isnt a secret. The White Sox arent gonna be like "well, he doesnt have a lot of wins soooooo maybe we should take less"

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) Can you point me to where in the books or show that Cersei has ever asked Qyburn to look for wildfire? My issue isn't with Cersei pursuing that particular tactic, but with the idea that it's some big secret. Cersei would already know that Aerys had wildfire under the city and intended to ignite it. That's a primary reason Jaime killed him. Cersei herself worked with the alchemist's guild to tap into existing caches and generate more. They produced enough to burn down the entire city in short order, so why would she even need to depend on using street urchin children to find secret caches? They used it up in the battle of blackwater? Maybe she wants to find the caches in order to not tip anyone off that they have it, instead of risking someone catching them making more -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) The proposed deal of Sale for Moncada, Swihart, Espinoza and ERod seems like something that makes sense for both sides. No, It doesnt. Betts or Bradley is in this deal or have fun with Wright and Bucholz. Sales success and contract demands the best return
-
get f***ing real. Dont give me Moncada and prospects. If Sale goes, especially to Boston, major league young players PLUS prospects are coming back. GTFO
