SOXTALK HOT TAKE: Why the Sox did NOTHING
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 08:28 AM) Sadly, this is what a half a century's worth of ineptitude can do to a fan base. "Be happy" for a "79-83" record because you got to see "some OK players take the field for the Sox"? I mean, really? You are perfectly fine settling for that because, why? We can tell a Cubs fan we've been to the World Series more recently than their team has? Really? Do Cardinals or Yankees or Giants or Red Sox fans have this kind of mindset and set the bar this low? Holy moly - Sox management must love you. "Accept our mediocrity, don't be mad at our routine meager results, and oh, by the way, while yer at it, come to our park, buy our tickets, purchase our parking, food and merchandise, and watch us on TV. And oh, how do ya like our OK players? Don't they look great in the '83 unis?" Lol - GMAFB!! Drunk sarcasm obviously doesn't cut through your unending desire to complain about Reinsdorfs ownership in every post your make

Sox sign Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 04:01 AM) Here is my text to Eminor3rd: "The White Sox bring back Viciedo. Of course they do. Can't they ever move on?" At the end of the day, it's a busted talented prospect who's young and has MLB experience who could be something but....naaaaahhhh. Who is this posting

Jared Fogle/Subway scandal...presumption of guilt?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) So what, substantively, has he actually been accused of here? Guilt by suspicion or the company you keep? Because he's "creepy" or has made a few inappropriate/creepy comments? He is being investigated for possible underage sex with a minor. I don't really understand why you are acting like the media is driving a lynch mob here. Nobody said anything about it until the FBI raided his house. Whatever would they do that Caulfield? Do you honestly think it is because your mythical "someone" is jealous of him and wants to bring him down?

Jared Fogle/Subway scandal...presumption of guilt?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) http://news.yahoo.com/report--jared-fogle-...-201648545.html The media's really getting good at throwing a lot of stuff at the wall and hoping some of it sticks (not unlike that recent NY Times Hillary e-mails story). Maybe Fogle doesn't come across as being a particularly likable dude (perception), but not sure he deserves this insinuation without something more substantive in terms of proof. There's probably enough to worry Subway and cause them to cut ties, but how many times has someone made a comment about a 16 year old or 17 even on SoxTalk...and ended up having a woman getting a secret microphone and copying all their messages to the FBI? Would any of this be happening if he wasn't worth $15 million or whatever and someone is jealous/envious and trying to knock him off his pedestal? Why are you blaming the media? The story broke when the FBI raided his house.

Sox sign Dayan Viciedo
This is more disappointing than the trade deadline

Send down Rodon and Call up EJ
QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:08 AM) then why put a pitch restriction on anyone. why spread out a pitcher starts, why when a game is out of reach, they bring in a player to substitute... the answer is easy.... the fear of the unknown > injury. Putting a pitch restriction on someone isn't remotely close to shelving a pitcher for the final two months of the season because there is some outlandish chance that the pitcher hurts himself. That is ridiculous

Cespedes to the Mets according to Levine
The greatest benefit of trading for Cespedes is Quintana not having to pitch to him for the rest of this season

I wish people weren't so eager to trade Adams

Attendance 2015
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Inside the Cell it is the same bowl. The original upper deck was just like Kauffman (way too steep). Jerry wanted a functional park like Kauffman and he got it. For the team, it's perfect: clubhouses, locker rooms, managers offices, staff offices. For fans it's a blah place that is very acceptable in terms of comfort. ok greg

Attendance 2015
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) Reinsdorf was in love with Royals (Kauffman) Stadium for some reason and wanted the same stadium. That's what he got minus fountains. A pretty bland Cell. The Sox were mostly concerned with improving the clubhouses and offices and that's what they got. Except for die hard Sox fans most agree the Cell is a lousy looking ballpark. Great food and drink and all that but lousy ballpark. The cell looks nothing like Kaufman, with or without fountains

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) Should I even try to treat it? My town says im on my own and they still may cut it down. Its just such a huge, old, nice tree. what was the arborists suggestion? Once they go, its quick and messy. the branches dry out and fall off all over the place. if your town says they will take it down, you may want to let them.

2015 Catch-All thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 10:22 AM) I had a party last week at my house and one of the attendees was a certified arborist. Apparently I have an amazing, mature Ash tree in my backyard. I knew it was an awesome tree (huge, full, provides great shade) but I had no idea it was an Ash. He was convinced that I had the tree treated because he had never seen one in such good shape. I am now terrified of losing it. I know they sell some pesticide stuff that you can use to treat the tree, but it takes 3 years to work. Ash Borers have systematically destroyed all of the Ash trees in my neighborhood. 2 in my backyard, my neighbor lost 2 as well. Terrible way for these trees to die too, they slowly suffocate from the top down, and try as hard as they can to send out low branches to stay alive

De Aza Traded to Orioles
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) Okay, better than 90%. That means he's better than everybody except 2.5 players. Off the top of my head Abreu and Sale. Oh wait, you are going to say you were only talking bats. So he's better than everybody than 1.3 players. So Abreu. Yep. That makes sense. I am about done with this board. I'm going to go back to just reading and rolling my eyes. De Aza is GARBAGE! There's a reason he was traded. There is a reason he was DFA'ed --- by the Marlins and the Orioles. There's a reason he won't be on the Red Sox next year. There's a reason why next year if he makes a team he'll be released, DFA'ed, or not be resigned. And there's a reason he won't be in the MLB within 2-3 years. I was through with De Aza when he was traded as well, but there was a good reason the Marlins DFA-ed him. he had a pretty bad leg injury and they werent sure he was ever going to play at the major league level again.

De Aza Traded to Orioles
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) I generally agreed with you until the last line. Avi's been so bad this year that "The White Sox would be better with De Aza right now" is unarguably true. Long term would they be better with him? Well, Avi's been so bad that if the White Sox want to really field a competitive roster next year he needs replaced. If they're ok rebuilding, he can have another year or two to see if he can turn into something useful. He might well just be a guy we waste 4 years on without ever getting anything positive. Its not inarguably true but whatever. De Aza sucked hardcore with the Orioles and found himself some PT with one of the worst teams in the league.

De Aza Traded to Orioles
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) Hitting .263/.317/.450 this year with almost average defence, worth 1.0 WAR so far. Meanwhile, Avisail Garcia is hitting .269/.319/.377 with completely horrendous defence, good for a -0.7 WAR. But please, tell me more about how Alejandro is just a bad baseball player and Avi is the future of the franchise. lets all forget that he got DFAed

Yasiel Puig
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) Sigh. You said you'd never heard a thing about him in Boston. There has been speculation around baseball and the blogosphere that the Red Sox might seek to package Cespedes to Miami in order to reel in Giancarlo Stanton, but up until now that appeared to be the extent of their intentions. That is not the case, according to Madden. Citing an unnamed source inside the Red Sox organization, it appears the Red Sox have soured on the Cuban left-fielder, going so far as to express “hate” for him. While that word may be a little strong, there is no doubt that some discord exists. “He marches to his own drum and the coaches all hate him.” http://calltothepen.com/2014/10/28/yoenis-...d-hated-boston/ The rest of the article questions how he went from a glue/chemistry guy in Oakland to a clubhouse cancer in two months, but there was way too much smoke coming out of Boston for all of it to have been completely invented or fabricated. You're telling me that planting stories about him in the media was done solely to placate Red Sox fans for not signing him...when they ended up signing Ramirez for the same position and Sandoval, two more huge question marks they now also would love to dump on other teams? If they loved him so much, why would they spend significantly more for an older player who can't even play LF adequately? No, thats not what I said at all. But keep on drawing your own conclusions from tiny snippets in fan blogs and passing them as fact
