  1. I found it funny that Bernstein railed on Wittenmeyer trusting his source, but constantly quotes "My guy". If he wants to force Wittenmeyer to reveal his source to verify the quotes, then he should do the same thing. I dont know that Bryant will be using this past year as a reason for not re-signing with the cubs 6 years from now, but it is totally plausible that he would be pissed at not being called up this season after the season he had in the minors and end up angry at the Cubs for not calling him up.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 08:59 AM) Isn't it Joe Morgan that still thinks the book was written by Billy Beane? haha Joe Morgans only thought is "Ryne Sandberg is not better than me"
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 08:52 AM) Wait Billy Beane didn't write Moneyball? Brad Pitt did. I mean Jonah Hill. Somebody wrote it. Somebody not named Kenny Williams
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 08:17 AM) I think you completely misread what I was trying to say. Given the size of the Sox payroll compared to their division mates, they should have made more than 2 playoff appearances during the KW era. His teams often underacheived. Because of what happened in 2005, all that will be forgotten and he will forever be a WS champion GM. On the contrary, given what Billy Beane has had to work with, the amount of times he has made the playoffs is very impressive. However, nobody seems to care anymore, they only remember his teams' struggles in October. heck, the Braves organization gets a ton of crap for only winning one world series when they made the playoffs like 18 years in a row. Thats crazy

    2014 TV thread

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 08:20 PM) Sounds like an awful TV show. But I like Wilfred
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 01:57 PM) Post of the century! Nobody can explain how some hitting/pitching coaches in sports are seen as buffoons and have to be replaced and others are seen as Sabermetric gods. I forgot. What has made Steverson the anti-Walker? Why do we love him again? Great post, Dick Allen! You exposed a big-time cliche. Steverson is just another guy. Players win games. except for Ozzie. Because Ozzie wins games, not the players
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 02:14 PM) He lost 15 pounds that quickly? Damn. yea, that is sitting on the toilet holding a trashcan in your lap weightloss.
  9. Nintendo and Gamestop are going to be hosting nationwide Smash Bros tourneys starting this weekend
  10. My kid would have to find a new place to live if he got kicked out of college in his 4th year of engineering school at OSU for doing that

  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) True. Bernstein also said that there is no guarantee that the plan is going to work. The Cubs have been very upfront about what they are doing. The writers at the ST ask questions that have already been answered. If you are one of those people that hates the plan and the way they have gone about their business, then you shouldn't be following Kris Bryant throughout the minor leagues and cheering on all these kids. It's a contradiction. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but some people have stupid opinions. Spending money on free agents in a race to 81 wins is f***ing stupid if you are at the same time trying to infiltrate your system with young talent. Everyone else understands for the most part. The Sun Times is taking this contrarian viewpoint for whatever reason. Not sure why. Because not everyone can buy it hook line and sinker. There are a ton of variables in this plan, and a lot of people have elevated the cubs prospect core as 100 percent cant miss prospects. Javier Baez was supposed to signal the beginning of the next phase, and he came up and peed down his leg, and caused a lot of people to slow down the hype train a bit. There is a good chance this team will be very good in a few years, but right now they are banking on a lot of prospects turning into gold. We all know prospects arent a sure thing.
  13. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) Anyone else annoyed apple removed camera roll? yes
  14. ha, its true canofcorn. Its somewhat admirable that when he finds a cause that he throws himself fully behind it, but in situations like this it looks like another one of their bully jobs where they rip on other journalists from afar.
  15. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) With all the griping and complaining, hiring and firing of coaches...I'm surprised teams don't save the payroll and eliminate positions. you need a tiered system of fall guys, otherwise managers will get fired yearly instead of bi-yearly
  16. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) what did Bernstein say about Gordon Wittenmeyer yesterday? Wittenmeyer told Mully and Hanley that Bernstein could kiss his ass (well butt) this morning. He said that Wittenmeyer made up a story out of whole cloth. Basically what it comes down to is Bernstein fully believes in Theos plan and thinks it is infallible, and he ridicules anyone that has the gall to question it. Him and Boers have been going after Wittenmeyer, Telander and Haugh pretty much every day
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) Your cat is a beast though. HHCINAA
  18. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) Butler is trash. Christ, what the hell is wrong with some of you guys? I know right!??@? HOW DARE ANYONE HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN ANDY THE CLOWN
  19. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 10:07 AM) I'm sorry, but this is stupid. And I'm no fan of Beane. He put together a solid team on a non-existent budget. His team blew TWO chances to close out the game. That's not on him. That's on the variability of bullpens and bad luck. He did do this, but then he mortgaged the future and traded away offense for pitching. After that he watched his team flounder offensively and get into the wildcard instead of win the division and stay out of a one game playoff.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 09:19 AM) I think the proof is in the pudding. Not many White Sox hitters went on to higher success under other hitting coaches. Nick Swisher did, but as been stated here many times, one reason he was dumped by the White Sox was his refusal to work with the coaching staff. So the Braves younger players having significant declines isnt pudding proof, but other players not getting better is?
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 08:58 AM) But the 2013 roster didn't have Eaton or Abreu. Adding those 2 would have made a difference. Obviously 2011 Paulie was a lot better than he was this year, and that is not on Steverson, but overall, Viciedo hasn't seemed to be much better. Beckham didn't get better, Ramirez really about the same, after a couple of seasons of declining power. De Aza, not an improvement. Flowers, perhaps an improvement but luck does seem to be a bit better this year. I don't think if you asked Feeky if he thought Flowers could hit .240 next year he would say yes. Gillaspie was better this year, although less power and pretty awful the second half. The offense changes when the hitters change. Blaming a hitter's failure on the hitting coach is ridiculous, especially if you don't know their exact relationship. absolving them of all blame is equally as ridiculous, especially if you dont know their exact relationship
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 02:18 AM) Great game, wow the Royals have some guys who can run. So many potential goats (Yost, Salvy, Butler getting picked off, etc) but so many heros in the end. Colon made contact on the little chopper to third, scoring the run. Hosmer blasted that ball off the wall late and those other hits he had; Salvy with the game winning poke past third, Finnegan, Aoki actually elevating and hitting the sac fly. However ... Yost. My gosh what a dumb move bringing in Ventura. Overthinking it. You don't bring in a starter who is young and wild in that situation. I can't believe managers do that sometimes in the postseason. Geezus you don't change roles this late in the game. Thank god Ozzie let the players decide it in 2005. Hindsight is 20/20, but I'd have first of all left Big Game James in, which might have turned out a bad decision since he had a pretty lousy game. IF I had to take James out, I'd start the pathetic parade of lefty/righty crap and brought in a lefty. However, that would have used up Finnegan early. It turned out OK for Ned and the Royals, considering almost the entire roster played and so many guys ended up contributing. Paulie said on Mike and Mike the winner of this game would represent in the World Series. I still like Baltimore. OH and by the way this was a victory for Hawk. Sabermetric Beane loses to old school, Mr. Bunt, Ned. Take that, Sabes. Yost declared the victor due to old school and the loser due to dumb
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 10:52 PM) Serious gas from Finnegan. Maybe he shoulda been in there in the 6th. It just makes no sense to bring in Ventura when he has guys like Finnegan, Herrera, Davis and Holland in his pen.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 10:44 PM) When you can't hit home runs, just steal every base possible. Dyson is insanely fast
  25. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 09:30 PM) Well, so much for Big Game James
