Adrian Peterson indicted for negligent injury to a child
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 05:06 PM) Ugh, I know there is a whole #spankyourchild crowd, but how can you see the cuts begin to form on your kid and still justify and keep at it. Just disgusting. Yea, a switch is beyond trying to punish a kid

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 03:49 PM) I will be disappointed, but not the least bit surprised when it happens to Rice. I wont be. I wanted the guy properly punished, but not exiled for the rest of his life.

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) I guess the Vick thing showed anything is possible. I think it'd be very unwise for an owner/GM to employ Ray Rice. I say no team will be dumb enough to sign a person like Ray Rice. I say you very much underestimate teams. There are many players in the NFL that have been arrested for domestic violence, and many of them continue to play

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 03:01 PM) Yet can you deny TMZ "broke" two of the biggest stories in sports history? Sterling and the ultimate firing of Goodell? I mean, they wrote articles and published tapes which traditional journalism outlets do. So what do you call this? digging for dirt, and showing everyone the dirt you found

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) I am so thankful they let him play in this tournament. You can tell his mind and body are not in sync yet, especially finishing around the basket. I'm getting more pumped for preseason to see Mirotic. So weird to really not know anything about a player. Feels like olden times. It sucks that he didnt get to play for Spain, it would have been cool to see him and Pau

2015 Offseason
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) Has anyone here heard anything about the availability of Korean third baseman Jeong Choi? Before the season, there was talk of him becoming a FA this offseason. Supposedly has Choo-like OBP skills with decent pop and glove. Checked his stats awhile back and it looks like he's played less games than his teammates (and not putting up the greatest #'s) so maybe dealing with injuries. Has been called the David Wright of Korea. He'll be 28 for next season. Not sure if the org feels Conor's D is adequate at 3B, or if he'll be a platoon DH/1B or even LF down the road, or traded. The Davidson plan is currently shelved. This could be another possibility. Does he have an military obligation like Choo did(and got out of)? You have to think that gives any major league team pause

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 11:06 AM) He has looked ok physically but he has played awful throughout the tournament and really only has played one decent game. I get that he hasnt looked good, i just dont think that this is anything to get excited over, one way or another.

I cant wait until the FIBA World Cup is over so i dont have to read the rollercoaster posts about how he looks better and then looks terrible. If he looks like this in December, I will panic. But this is an exhibition tourney

Bears re-signed WR/KR Chris Williams this week, and Trestman mentioned him in his press conference yesterday. I wonder if he will jump over Perry on the depth chart after Perry's stupid decision last week to bring it out 8 yards deep in the end zone

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 05:59 PM) I was looking for a retriever pup when I found my beagle mix. I'll probably stick with medium sized dogs if I get another sometime. You have a really good looking mutt though. It really has a neat look and I like its color

The Pet Thread
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 05:45 PM) I've had a Vizsla named Finnegan for the past 2.5 years. He is, with all due respect to every dog that came before him, the best dog I have ever had. Sweet with friend's kids. Great with other dogs, and amazing as a hiking buddy out here in CO. They are an extremely energetic breed, so you need to have the time to wear them out, but just wonderful dogs. We're thinking about adding a second dog in a year or two and a Swiss Mountain Dog is at/near the top of the list, but after this dog, we'll probably always have a Vizsla in our lives. That's how I feel about Basset hounds. The longer I go without a dog the more I convince myself that's what I want to get again. I love a Vizsla's look though. Those and Weimaraner's have such awesome coats and colors

9-11 rememberance thread
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) I've never considered any parallel between that song and 9/11. I see Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was released in 2001, and a quick googling shows me that the album was originally set for a 9/11/01 release, but the tall buildings shake/skyscrapers are scraping together lines are pretty generic. I didn't pick this album, or Wilco up until long after 2001, though, so there is that. just an FYI, he wont respond to this

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) Insta-banned? Depends on the case I'd say. The Ray Rice one happened in February. The NFL had some ability to take their time with that one, it's their own stupidity that screwed it up. This one, there's a legal case here that has to be made first. If you had video of it happening, then maybe you make the suspension right there because you have the evidence in hand, if there's no video then you have to wait at least a little bit until law enforcement does its job because we do give a presumption of innocence overall in this country and that should carry over. The teams in the NFL can probably decide on their own how to deal with a guy in that scenario. Without knowing the person, it does seem like a team where the coach says he has zero tolerance for that stuff publicly is a case where the team should elect to sit him based on the coaches statements, but I won't say that should be the case in every circumstance. If a guy is going to play while the investigation moves forward, that's tolerable. You can't fire a guy or tell him not to come to work that day until the police give something. Which is our biggest issue right now, and why i asked that about McDonald. If we all saw this tape back in february of Rice throwing the punch, would he have gotten 6-8 games or would he be indefinitely suspended?

We should lose to Oakland today on purpose

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) He got fired from him job. I don't see that as extreme at all. he got punished, then punished again. I thought 6-8 games was fair for what happened. and then we have the 49ers DT McDonald beating his pregnant gf or wife and playing a week later. If there was tape of him beating her, would he still have played? or would he be insta banned from the NFL?

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 09:04 AM) Can we just admit that at some point this is all just piling on? That everyone has this, jealousy for lack of a better word of the NFL, so now's a good time to go after them? I mean, it's pretty sad that the focus of the outrage has shifted from Rice and domestic violence issues in sports to the NFL and how it handled this. Over a video that, again, didn't need to be seen to understand what happened. I agree that Rice has gotten extreme punishment over something we already knew. I dont agree that it is piling on for the NFL, i believe they deserve this for trying to sweep this under the rug and repeatedly being caught in lies.
