If KW trades for a minor league leadoff man, it will be

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 03:03 PM) If the Mets do wind up needing a starter though, I think this may well be the year they move Milledge. They have enough OF to hold down the fort for a few years. So if we do fall out of it, Buehrle/Milledge is a potential swap. I'd agree with you, but I think the Mets believe they have enough starting pitching for the season. Pedro is due back in June, and if one of the 5 falter they still can experiment with Chan Ho Park, Jason Vargas, or another pitching prospect Phil Humber. I just don't see the Mets giving up a stud prospect to fill a hole, I only see them giving up a stud prospect to get a stud player in return. -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) What happens if Alou or Green get injured? Both are getting old in the tooth. Delgado? What if Pedro Martinez doesn't come back? They need to replace D. Sanchez too. If Green gets hurt or Alou, Lastings Milledge and Endy Chavez will fill in. Milledge had a great spring, and may actually put up more productive numbers than Green. The Mets are counting on rookie Joe Smith to pick up some of Duaner's innings, chances are if need be Minaya will go for an arm that won't cost them a top prospect at the deadline. -

There is no way Minaya deals Gomez, Pelfrey, or any other young player that may help the Mets in the long run this September. Carlos Gomez is only 21 years old and he's in AAA. He hit .281 last season in AA, the only thing left for him to work on is his plate patience. Other than that he's another great young outfielder for the Mets. He stole 41 bags last year. What exactly would the Mets be interested in from our organization at this point in time? We aren't getting Gomez, and I'm positive we won't get Ellsbury either. -
As someone who works with the press on a regular basis....I think it is safe to say that their attitude towards sports, and life in general is that they are unhappy and (unsatisfied), no matter what. It's simple, you give them gold, they complain about not having silver. Granted there are those in the media who are well mannered, and truly are class acts.

Opening Day: White Sox vs. Indians, 4/2/07 (L)

I was wondering if there has been any announcement on how well the Sox did on their first day of individual ticket sales? I'm out on the east coast, and searched Chicagosports.com and found nothing. Has anything been reported? Thanks.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) We still don't have a back-up righty outfielder. That's inexcusable after last season. Now there is a statement I agree with. Luis Terrero is NOT the answer for a backup right handed batter. Hopefully it won't bite us in the ass....but it probably will.

QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) Erstad sucks, Spivey sucks and was signed to a MLC, while there are no open spots on the active roster for him (or 40-man IIRC, but I could be wrong about that). That being said, Erstad is better in CF than Mack How can you say that Erstad sucks? He played in 40 games last year and was hurt. In 2005 he hit .273 and in 2004 hit .295. Erstad is a solid back-up if he can stay healthy, in no way does he SUCK.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) Scary thing is...with the way that Mets rotation is sitting right now, he might legitimately have a shot at starting for them at some point this year. Omar isn't done dealing yet. He is still looking to add another arm, I am surprised though that Scott got that large of a contract.
-
From what I have heard, Minaya is done talking with Kenny Williams. It has already been written that Minaya is talking to Beane about Harden. Minaya is offering Pelfrey and Milledge. The Mets are also interested in Bartolo Colon and Dontrelle Willis. As far as Oliver Perez goes, the Mets were very satisfied for his gutsy game 7 start. He still was very solid that start despite the horrendous year he had. I do expect the Mets to make a move for a starting pitcher, Jose Lima is not the answer. Things could get interesting.
-
I voted Felix. He was born ready. My second choice would be Danny Wright.
-
Yup, that's a big issue here in New Jersey. (I go to school in Seton Hall.) I personally am happy that Rutgers got screwed over, considering they are are rival in New Jersey. (Even though we don't have a football team.)

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) Actually he pitched in AA last year, he's never pitched an inning at Iowa. My mistake, I was looking at Aardsma's numbers.
-
I really don't know what to think of this trade yet, I'm interested to see what Vasquez has to offer. Anyone else think he might make the opening day roster? He did pitchin AAA last year, and he is a lefty.....
-
We should be able to get Milledge AND more from the Mets in exchange for Garcia. The amount that organizations are willing to pay for pitching these days are absolutly ridiculous. It's only a matter of time before the pieces fall into place.
-
I had the opportunity to work for the Mets during the post-season, and I would love if the White Sox took a look at Heilman. He has GREAT stuff. I'm all for getting Heilman.

QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) Okay. And they'll agree with me and tell me that insanely good pitching wins championships. Not "good team baseball." Last time I checked, "insanely good pitching" is also part of "good team baseball" The 2005 White Sox had everything in the post-season, not just great starting pitching. El Duque was magical out of the pen, along with Cotts. Not to mention our timely clutch hitting. (Konerko's slam, Podesdnik's walk off, Crede, Dye, etc)

QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) I wouldn't give the 2006 White Sox a F as we didn't finish in last place. I would give a D+ mainly because we were doing pretty good the first half of the season prior to the 2nd half flop. Hopefully we can get things in order for 2007. I understand your assessment, however in my opinion anything but a play-off berth deserves an F.
-
You guys are way too specific when it comes to these. Here are my grades: The 2006 Roster: F That's right. Baseball is a team game, they all didn't get it done, they didn't make the post-season...they all get F's.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) It's not just going to cost you McCarthy, you'll have to include more in the package. Adding Ichiro's very large salary and subtracting Brandon's non-existent salary could put the Sox in a position where they won't have any flexibility financially this offseason which is something they're going to need if they want to upgrade the team elsewhere. Plus you would be sacrificing a whole lot of youth (23 year old McCarthy) and making this team a whole lot older for a possible one year rental in Ichiro seeing how his contract is up at the end of next season. (if McCarthy is moved then the same starting 5 from last year would likely be brought back, making the Sox future incredibly old and expensive.) Kalapse, I'm well aware that the Mariners are not just going to accept taking McCarthy. Obviously we're going to have to part ways with another prospect, and possibly end up trading Freddy back to Seattle. If we are going to acquire Ichiro, obviously we're going to have to make other deals to free up cash, and to get younger. All I know is that I refuse to watch Scott Podsednik patrol the outfield and lead-off for another season. Kenny has to make a move.
-
I'm sorry, but how could any of you guys be against acquiring Ichiro? The guy could make this team extremely dangerous. If it means giving up McCarthy so be it.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) Cause we're trying to diminish his trade value even more? I'm ready to just sit every one of our regulars and just let hte kids play. Chuck Haeger should get a spot start within the next week. This is just embarassing.
