  1. 3 years and 40 mil is correct and that's more than fair. And you're right, if he walks, we use the money elsewhere. One possibility is signing Mags to a long-term deal. You could also try to lock Buehrle up beyond the three more seasons we have him. That's true as well, although Buehrle's contract should have been taken care of right after he won 19 games. We need to lock him up, he is a building block of this team. CWSOX45
  2. Last I heard the offer was at 3 years for 40 million? Someone correct me if I'm off on that. I think that's a pretty solid contract for Colon, the Yankees were offering 5 years at 60 million last I heard. If Colon walks, oh well than we have more cap room to sign a couple of good starting pitchers. I'd prefer the White Sox to go after either Ponson, or Miguel Batista from Arizona who is also a free agent. I also want Wilson Alvarez back on the South side, he had nasty stuff for Los Angeles last year and as one poster mentioned in another thread could very well be a sleeper much like Loaiza. CWSOX45
  3. I can't blame Daubach, I hope he finds a place where he will be able to play everyday. Maybe he shoudl consider looking at Los Angeles. They always need more offense, and he might be able to take McGriff's job. CWSOX45
  4. Fullmer doesn't usually play at first base, in 2002 when the Angels he only played 29 games at first, and had a .995 fielding percentage. That isn't too shabby but you're right Fullmer isn't exactly a "solid" defensive player. I do think however that Fullmer will be able to make the routine plays, that's all we really need him to do. I know Spezio can play 1st, 3rd and other positions. He would be a solid addition to this team if the Sox decide to pass on Fullmer. Not only can he play 1st, but he will also be able to play 3rd in case Crede gets injured. CWSOX45
  5. Redman again is falling behind in the count, it's going to be a long night for the Marlins if Redman can't get it under control. Come on Fish time to rally. CWSOX45
  6. Starting Line-up 1B Fullmer 2B Alomar SS Guzman 3B Crede LF Rowand CF Reed RF Ordonez C Olivo DH Lee If we do let Thomas walk I'd like to see the Sox have Carlos DH, and let Reed patrol center and let Rowand handle left. I know Carlos hustles every play but this would definatly strengthen our defense. Rotation 1. Loaiza 2. Colon 3. Buehrle 4. Wilson Alvarez 5. Garland Bullpen Sullivan Gordon Marte Schoenweiss Wunsch Koch Bench Alomar Jr. Harris Graffanino Daubach CWSOX45
  7. Don't count out Redman. Sure he had a s***ty outing against the Cubs but he can totally shut down an offense. He's done it multiple times this season. I'd just love to see the Yanks go down 2-0. Let's go Fish! CWSOX45
  8. I completely agree. I'm tired of seeing Paulie's slow ass at first base. Sure he has a TON of upside, especially if he repeats the season he did in 2002. However he always has a month long slump at some point in the season. I'd like to see the Sox trade Paulie and say goodbye to Frank. I'd like for us to either get Speizio or Fullmer. CWSOX45
  9. I wouldnt mind Speizio if and only if we can't get Brad Fullmer. I think Fullmer would fit in nicely here on the southside. As for Speizio how much will he cost? CWSOX45
  10. This is a unfortunate day for all on these messageboards. Hopefully we can get past this and continue to talk about the game we all love and admire. As for the banned posters of Clu, BMR and cwsox I will miss them. I've had some good baseball chats with Clu and BMR, and cwsox was always welcoming new posters to this site. Jason, wherever you are on behalf of most of the posters here at Soxtalk thankyou for everything. CWSOX45
  11. Cost of Vazquez+Colon+good shortstop (Kaz Matzui hopefully) would probably cost us about $30 mil. $10 mil for Vazquez, $13 mil for Colon, and probably $5-7 mil for a good shortstop. Now, if Konerko and Thomas are gone than this would be plausible. Because in that case we would really only be adding about 7 mil to the payroll from these moves. But since JR is cheap realistically the chances of this happening are slim to none. I don't think Matsui will come hear, the Sox have never been interested in players in Asia, other than Tetsu Yofu. I'd love to see Matsui but I highly doubt it will happen....I wish though. As for Thomas and Konerko, they can both leave. CWSOX45
  12. If Cabrera stays healthy, he will be 10 times the player C Lee currently is at the same point in careers. Amen. The Marlins would have to be high to accept that deal. I'd do it in a fricken heartbeat though. CWSOX45
  13. Unless you're Brad Penny..... God the Yankees are going to have fun with him tonight, I just know it. CWSOX45
  14. Just because they interview a few big names don't mean jack s***. With Leyland's price-tag and the reported $$$$$ issues that come with Gaston, an interview with Leyland is pure window dressing to appease a PO'ed fanbase. Expect the cheapest candidate to manage the White Sox next season. Which means we'll get Ozzie......*sigh* Ozzie might actually motivate this team, but he sure as hell won't get us to the World Series.... Last time I checked isn't that the goal for every organization? CWSOX45
  15. Problems with your post: 1. There is no way in hell that the White Sox could get Livan Hernandez for only 3 mil a year. He will command at least 6 on the free agent market. 2. Vazquez would save us about 3 mil. But thats because the rumored offer is 3 years at 13 mil a year. Vazquez will probably make $10 mil next year. My own personal opinion is that it is bulls*** that MLB dictates the payroll of the Expos. Get an actual owner for that team already. And until that is done MLB should suck it up and keep that team together. I say we make a run at Vazquez, that is IF we sign Colon. Than again I'm not Kenny Williams and I dont know what the cost of bringing in Colon, Vazquez and a new shortstop would be. If we do end up dealing Konerko for prospects we will have some cap room for Vazquez. . I know I might be dreaming, but imagine a rotation with Loaiza, Colon, Buehrle, and Vazquez in it. That's f***IN AWESOME. Should be an interesting off-season CWSOX45 This offseason is going to be sweet. The Sox aren't doing anything to f*** their team over, but build it up for a contender in '04. It all depends if we re-sign Colon, if not I don't know what is going to happen to this team....... CWSOX45

Sure he had pretty good numbers this year, but I just can't see him performing at the same level next year. CWSOX45

  18. That would have blown my socks off, getting Vazquez would have made our rotation the best in the American League, and possibly all of baseball. The White Sox have always shown interest in Vazquez and Ponson, I wonder if the Sox will land and of them here in the off-season. CWSOX45
  19. Knowing our luck it will be the "Nightmare Before Christmas." CWSOX45
  20. Bartman. The poor guy has to change his whole lifestyle due to this fiasco. CWSOX45
  21. Hankins a catcher? I like the idea, but does he have a strong arm? I'd love to see Hankins up here if he continues to hit like he did this year. CWSOX45
  22. Wood is already past 80 pitches. I don't think he'll go past the six if the Marlins keep fouling pitches off. I still have a feeling Florida will pull this off somehow, someway. CWSOX45
  23. I save my thought on this until morning. DOH. Yeah that wouldn't be such a bad idea....... CWSOX45
