Noah Lowry/Matt Cain (for some reason?)
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) I hope Sabean is as dumb as I think he is. My thoughts exactly.

Crede, Danks, MacDougal for Cain... i think Sabean takes that or at least thinks on it.

Noah Lowry/Matt Cain (for some reason?)
QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 09:58 AM) also from rotoworld today The Mercury News reports that the Giants will monitor Joe Crede this spring, and if healthy, there's a "good chance" they could acquire him for a pitcher. The Giants have reportedly been shopping Matt Cain, who would be a solid fit in the back of a Chicago rotation that is starved for experience. Giants special assistant Ron Schueler, the former White Sox GM, has been pushing the team to acquire Crede. Suggesting Matt Cain is a joke. If the Sox managed to land Matt Cain then I'd soil myself immediately and start worshiping KW. Seriously, someone at rotoworld needs to be smacked. Cain does not belong in the back of any rotation, and his value is much higher than a Joe Crede even if he's at his pique. However, Sabean is a moron, so I won't completely rule it out. American Idol - Season 7
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) What does that mean? Or is this just a trivia fact you are handing out? Just handing out a trivia fact. It's interesting is all.

American Idol - Season 7
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 08:07 AM) I'm wondering if this stuff will ever come to light, or if Vote For The Worst has shot itself in the foot by being obnoxious and just as mean-spirited as the show they attack: http://votefortheworst.com/americanidol7contestants The guy who originally created the votefortheworst website went to NIU... As for the claims on the site, they are interesting and I believe kill the credibility of the show.

2007-08 NBA Thread
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 05:44 AM) Hmm; We've got a big thread on that rumor over at TalkBulls... come on over and lurk or register and give your input! TalkBulls: Nets/Bulls rumor The more I look at this deal the more I LOVE IT. Nachbar, Magloire, and Wright all come off the books at the end of the season. Wright you re-sign, he's making 1.7 mill right now. Magloire is a no-brainer, you let him walk and clear $4 million in salary, Nachbar, maybe re-sign him for cheap, maybe not, if he walks, you clear another 2.5 mill in salary. Marcus Williams gives us a true point guard, and is locked up for 3 years after this at 1.26, 2.05, and 3.00 million. That's incredibly affordable. I think Williams would look great here. We basically get rid of the awful Nocioni contract and get a couple pieces we could use in Wright and Williams and MAYBE Nachbar, who can at least score with his back to the basket (nice hook shot). This deal really seems like a no-brainer because it gives Pax the flexibility he needs to either make another trade with these pieces or to just have some cap space cleared for next year... and it makes us a bit younger.

Latest name on the steroid front? Magglio
I don't doubt he was using. For people to say this extortion by Canseco kills his credibility, well... I don't think it alters it. The guy's a sleezebag, but I don't think he's lying about players he implicates. OEEEEOO might have been on the juice.

In the market for a new car
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) There is always one problem with buying a recent used car... why was it sold? You've got to wonder why someone buys a brand new car, which loses 30%+ of its value in the first year, and then sells it or trades it in. Sure, some people just buy a new car every year because they have money to burn, but think about the other more likely scenarios... they all point to a car that probably had problems of some kind or another. That's the big issue with buying used - you are taking a chance (a significant one if the car is only a year old) that the car is problematic. That's why you get a carfax report and then there's no worries.

2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
- Sox have had a pretty nice off season
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) I agree we need to move Crede's salary and Uribe's if at all possible, but I still say you guys are seriously underestimating the quality we have in our starting pitching...at least I hope you are. I would say I don't underestimate it. With the divorce behind him and another Cuban on the roster Jose Contreras has the ability to contend for Cy Young and I think an era under 4 is highly possible (of course he could completely bomb as well). But without Danks taking HUGE strides and Floyd proving that his September numbers weren't a direct result of September callups, that rotation is in some trouble. I'd like one other vet as an insurance policy at least... unless we think Broadway can handle that role. Three big question marks is just two too many entering a season, but we'll see.- Sox have had a pretty nice off season
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 08:19 AM) This offseason has been pretty good so far. If they can deal Uribe, Crede and MacD, and pick up an SP, then I'll be very psyched for 2008. My exact thoughts. You can't ignore how much the offense is improved with Swisher, Quentin, and Cabrera in... but we need SP and need to deal some of these extra pieces.- In the market for a new car
Buying new is so foolish. The moment you drive that sucker off the lot it loses near 10k in value. Go to cars.com and price the used cars... you can get 2007 models with less than 10k miles on them for a fraction of the price of buying new.- What did she say??
Something including the term "lynch" or "lynching" that's all I know.- Noah Lowry/Matt Cain (for some reason?)
Noah Lowry would be a huge mistake in the Cell.- Octavio Dotel signs with Sox
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:53 PM) Not in a 1 for 1 deal but if it sweetened the pot of a bigger deal yes, they are essentially the same pitcher. But why would you want an "essentially same pitcher" who costs more?- Heath Ledger Dies

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) I think Aardsma is the tallest midget out of MacDougal, Masset, and Sisco. I'd actually rank him dead last in that group.- Heath Ledger Dies
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) Not to be too glib, but has filming wrapped completely on the next Batman movie? I hope so... nothing a little CGI can't fix, but this is just crazy. I wasn't aware he had any issues but it seems to be drug related.- Heath Ledger Dies

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:36 PM) We could have kept him if Armstrong wasn't on the 40-man for some mysterious reason or if KW didn't idiotically give Uribe 4.5 million. And it would have made absolutely zero difference. Who the f*** cares about David Aardsma?- Your best (and worst) moments as a fan
Maryland was ranked #12, and I will never forget that game... I was a sophomore and I must have had about twenty beers that day, and had a huge group at the game (as we did every game)... the game was amazing and I'll never forget Dan Sheldon streaking down the sideline to grab that ball in OT. It was f***ing awesome. They also beat Alabama that year and Michael Turner still makes me proud everytime he gets to run for the Chargers. Another game that will go down for me was sitting 4th row, 1996-97 first round of the NHL Playoffs. Hawks were down 2 games to 0 to the Colorado Avalanche as the 8th seed. They won this game in double OT on a phenomenal goal by Sergei Krivokrasov over Patrick Roy's shoulder... Jim Cummins then tackled Krivo at center ice... I'll never forget my old man surprising me with those tickets (I was 14 at the time), and being there, 4th row, in that insanity was amazing. There's about a billion others, but those stick out.- Octavio Dotel signs with Sox
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) If Baltimore thought they had a shot at competing next year they might be up for that. But here's the problem. He's out right now for this year, but Baltimore has a young closer in Chris Ray who may be back and pitching again in 2009. And if they're committing to a multi year rebuilding process, Jenks would only hurt that process as he'll be departing at just about the point they'd want him to be staying. If they'd do it, I'd probably be open to it, but if I was B-More's GM, I wouldn't consider it. I want guys who can help me 2-3 years from now, not guys who can help me now. Jeebus I completely forgot about Chris Ray. This would give them options, but your point makes sense nonetheless.- Octavio Dotel signs with Sox
Am I the only one who thinks Bobby Jenks + Uribe and maybe a Lance Broadway (or at most Gavin Floyd) could net Erik Bedard? With Dotel/Linebrink/MacDougal already don't we all think its worth it to get the type of talent Bedard is?? I think this would instantly make us contenders in the AL Central and the Orioles would be nuts to not bite on that package that gives them a young SP from the Baltimore area (if it was in fact Floyd), a SS they desperately need (even if he does like Krispy Kreme a bit too much), and a young closer in his arb years who just might be the best at what he does. Am I insane?- Films Thread
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) why did that bug you? It was answered at the end. I was like, "it's great he likes Bale's character and all, but he's helping (especially in the end) and will wind up dead." His character was not the type that would sacrifice his life so Bale could get $200 and his son's respect. Once I realized he knew he'd be escaping and it was all a moot point, it all made sense. - Sox have had a pretty nice off season
