QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) A key injury to a guy like Zetterberg or Datsyuk for an extended period of time could very well signal some suckage. Otherwise, I think they'll be fine. Obviously not as good as this past season, but still a playoff team. Yes. It opens the door, however, for the Hawks to win the Central.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 09:31 PM) Looks like Iverson might be headed to Miami. Fantastic move, you can get Iverson to mentor players with questionable maturity like Chalmers, and Beasley, take time away from the 21 year old SG DQ Cook, and possibly push Wade into an undersized SF role. This will surely push the Heat deep into the playoffs. I'm just so excited. Haha. -
QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) TSN is reporting Red Wings RFA forward Jiri Hucler has signed a contract with Dynamo Moscow. Hudler is only 25 and scored 23 goals last season. It's the 5th Red Wings player to bail this off season, Hossa, Samuelsson, Kopecky, and goalie Ty Conklin. They actually might suck next year.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) "We were late filing, something we haven't done in the past," Tallon said after the third day of prospects camp at Johnny's Ice House. "For a couple reasons we were a little late. We should have filed earlier. It'll never happen again." Tallon admitted the club was embarrassed by the front-office miscue and took the blame for it. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/hockey/blac...-070809.article Sure it won't, because your ass will be fired soon enough.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 12:26 AM) I saw Public Enemies the other night. I thought it was good, but far from great. I really didn't have high expectation for it coming in, but still, somehow, it disappointed me. I'm a huge Christian Bale fan and I thought he and Depp did well, but it just seemed really bland overall. I will say one thing however, that the movie kind of made you feel for Dillinger a bit towards the end. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't go see it again in theaters. To me, it'll be one of those movies that could have been REALLY badass but wasn't. I agree. I posted the same that it seemed emotionally neutered and I didn't care what happened to the characters. It COULD have been GREAT, and therein lies its downfall.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 06:52 PM) Ugh, I hate the conception that Darko is a "bust" because of who he was drafted in front of. From the day he was drafted, he's been in position for failure. The only time he got consistent minutes and real playing time was in Orlando, and he proved to be a pretty damn good player who was productive, especially defensively. Even as a starter in Memphis, he was taken out of games early. I hope to God the Knicks let him play. It's a shame because he plays damn well for Serbia in international competition. He JUST turned 24. Darko is a bust because he sucks and is prone to turnovers. He'd have gotten minutes in Memphis if he were actually any good. -
He won't retire when the contract offers come in... it's not often you can set up generations of your family financially by hanging around for a few more years in an occupation. At 32, he'll be in high demand, and hopefully extended, again, with the White Sox.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) If it is true, I would say the 2 major leaguers are obviously Poreda and Richard. As for the minor leaguers, I'll say Flowers, Carter, and Shelby. I'd s*** if we got Halladay. What's his contract status regarding a NTC?

White Sox Acquire RP Tony Pena from ARI for Brandon Allen
Steve9347 replied to chetkincaid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The acquisition of Pena is going to be much like the acquisition of Matt Thornton. In KW I trust. -
QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 12:03 AM) Hawk is Awesome. I would not trade him for any announcer. Living far away from Chicago I have grown to love Hawk even more, it's like watching every game with a buddy. Thank You Hawk.

I stand by my love of Episode 1.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) I just really don't want to give up Flowers in a deal. I think giving up Flowers at his peak value would be brilliant. Saltalamacchia had huge value a few years ago, but everyone has finally realized he's a DH. Same with Flowers... he's a DH masquerading as a catcher for now. It'd be smart to deal him.

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) I was the same way. The guy was my f***ing hero and I almost cried when I heard he passed. Later on I learned this should have not been such a surprise death cause the dude was just out of control. But I still miss him, he made me laugh harder than any other human being ever. Yeah, same here. You should read "The Chris Farley Show", if you haven't.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) Adding Rolen and Halladay would easily make us favorites in the central. Move Slayer to 2B, we got the return of Q. Look at that lineup: 1. Pods, CF 2. Ramirez, SS 3. Dye, RF 4. Thome, DH 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Rolen, 3B 7. Quentin, LF 8. Pierzynski, C 9. Beckham, 2B Plus, we'd have one of Halladay, Buehrle, Danks, Floyd, or Contreras on the mound. Awesomeness. That team would immediately become a World Series favorite, in my opinion.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) My favorite type of deal would be one where we also get Rolen in order to assume some salary in exchange for giving up less in prospects, and then we keep Poreda and deal Richard instead. Halladay + Rolen for Flowers + Richard + Hudson + Fields + low-level prospects would work out great for us That would be glorious.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) Since we didn't know his family situation, we can't rule out the possibility of a crazy wife driving him to this. We don't have to paint him as horrible husband until we know for sure that he wasn't married to terrible wife. And isn't it strange that we haven't heard from his wife throughout this process? Adultery = slimeball in my book. You want to bang other ladies? Man-up and get a divorce, regardless of what it costs. -

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) As for playing at soldier, it wont happen. That field cant hold a baseball diamond logistically. One of the foul lines will be around 180 ft unless they took out seats which I dont think they would be willing to do. Below is a very rough overlay I did of Wrigley on top of Soldier field.... Well, that makes some sense there. Ha. -
Supposedly, a friend who works with the organization and has heard the rumblings around the office says the Blue Jays have demanded Gordon Beckham in any Roy Halladay deal, to which Kenny Williams pretty much gave a middle-finger. This guy's pretty close to the action, so unless the Blue Jays are willing to lower their price, you can forget about it.

There you have it. Nabokov or bust?

What would you rather have?

$5 is the easy answer. -
QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) Buehrle is due to throw Sunday so he probably won't pitch in the ASG That kind of sucks, since it's in his hometown ballpark.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:59 AM) That would't be wise, that would be business suicide. The Cubs are as successful as they are, in great part, because of Wrigley. The wise thing to do would be to rebuild Wrigley in the same place, and have it be much like the old one in overall appearance (but with improvements obviously to certain areas). Basically, what the Yankees did. They would have one rough season where they'd have to play at The Cell, but, that is a small price to pay for continued financial success. If the Cubs moved to a ball mall in the suburbs, their fan draw would take a serious hit. No way they do that. This. They could even play at Soldier Field if playing at the Cell is too big a deal. That would probably sell really well given the neatness of it. Plus, you could REALLY pack em in for Cubs/Sox lol. -
Chris Farley At 15 years old, and loving Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, and his characters on SNL, Waynes World, WW2, etc etc, everything Farley, it blew my mind and I was pretty sad about it.
