2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) Closing another chapter on the sports program. Assembly Hall is gone, the Chief is gone. Sad. (although I agree the money was much needed and will help going forward). They didn't knock down Assembly Hall, LOL. Chief is gone, Assembly Hall is being renovated. Improves revenue, should help get better players in the program, nothing to be upset about here. We're not Cubs fans. -

Yeah, we need the money for the renovation. Not a big deal. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) Arguing semantics. Last time Danks was thought to be healthy he was our opening day starter, our #1 starter , the ace of the staff even if not considered a true "ace" . Now while he was injured Sale and Peavy proved better than Danks . I'd even put Quintana ahead of him at this point if he can come back. Key words being "last time." Let's not make this out to be "poor White Sox, they are missing their ace #1 pitcher" because it's a load of s***. Which is where this whole thing started.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) A healthy John Danks is a reasonable #2 starter on a very good team. Well we're talking about the current White Sox team. Even if he's back, which is a big "if" he's healthy and is he back to previous form - are you taking him over Sale or Peavy? I wouldn't think so this year. We've had injuries, sure, the point is let's not pretend the Sox are without their best starter right now, or "ace"
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 11:22 PM) Umm opening day last year Danks was our ace. He was the opening day stater. How fast you forget after a good year by Sale and Peavy after the fact. Umm he said they are without their ace. Danks is far from their ace right now, even if healthy. At best they're missing their #3 or #4 starter.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 05:54 AM) I liked the names simply because it irritated so many other college fans across the country for no reason. It irritated Big Ten fans because it was stupid. I'd rather have my conference not have stupid division names, but TWTW syndrome I guess. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 07:48 AM) Haha. Don't wanna jinx anything, but she's actually been sleeping like a champ, so we have been pretty lucky so far. It is nice that the weeknight game is an early start, while the weekend game is the late start. With SJ, LA, Van, and Ana in there, I'd get the coffee ready. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 10:50 PM) Then act like a professional umpire and handle the situation. Don't inflame it. If Price steps over the line eject him. You don't drop yourself down to that level and join in. That is some crap from the 60's. Do your job. That is how you handle the situation. Sorry, umpires aren't s***-eating robots. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 10:42 PM) I dont see it being all too difficult in the near future. Penn St is about to drift into irrelevancy, Maryland and Indiana sucks. Rutgers will be a bottom feeder. That leaves Mich St and Michigan. Michigan should always be good but if things are going right at Ohio St, OSU will be the much more talented team 3 out of 4 years vs MSU. Unless youre not pleased with being stuck with the two new teams then I agree. I know its an East/West thing but thats in name only. Just split them up. You lose a traditional B10 game every year now. Nothing says Big 10 football than the annual Rutgers-Maryland game. It's not in name only, it's geographic. Having Rutgers play all the west teams every year just to split them up (who cares?) wouldn't make a lot of sense. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 08:00 PM) Marc Topkin @TBTimes_Rays Umpire Hallion admits #Rays Price didn't say anything to him but "certainly gave enough body language to insinuate that he was pissed off.'' the umpire is 100% in the wrong here. Abuse of power at its finest. Body language can be addressed by umpires, too. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 07:23 PM) If the umpire was yelling at Price to throw the ball over the f***ing plate, he wasn't doing his job... not even close. That isn't just swearing. Umpires are a whole different standard than players. If Price did something against the rules, he should have been thrown out. If the umpire was inflaming the situation, by cursing directly at Price, he needs to be suspended. The day of the umpire getting to do whatever he wants was over long ago. This isn't little league. Umpires and players swear throughout the game, and it doesn't always result in ejections. If Price was swearing about his strike zone and attacking him, then he's perfectly justified to respond in that way. No problem with it. Price started the whole thing - being a clown immediately after he didn't get the pitch, then furthering it after the inning was over. That's being addressed with more than a "excuse me kind sir, you can't yell at me like that." Price was clearly the aggressor, it's quite likely that he swore, and if he uses a swear to describe the "plate," that's not exactly headline-worthy. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) We didn't see anything but a clip after the fact of Price yelling and throwing a fit in the dugout. If what Price said is true about what the ump told him, he needs to be suspended. Yes, we only saw that plus what zenryan just told us. We also have no idea what Price was yelling "at the dugout." No one deserves to get suspended only for using profanity, it's when it's personal is when there's an issue. That's the line that gets drawn, because players and umpires swear. It's not HS baseball where it's automatic. Problem is it's a he said/she said thing, and I don't know if anyone has audio on any of it. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 06:57 PM) I dont know what angles you guys had from the Chicago feed but I had the Rays feed and Price was walking to the dugout yelling towards his dugout and the umpire walked up the first base line and started yelling at Price. We all know that Price was yelling at/about the plate umpire but he wasnt looking towards the plate so the umpire should have just watched and let it go. No umpire should start the confrontation. If he has that much of a problem with what Price is saying then toss him on the spot, dont walk towards him. No, it doesn't matter where you are looking. If you're talking to/at the umpire, he has every right to open his mouth and address it. Instead of toss him, he probably did what he could to keep him in the game. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 06:53 PM) Two regulars out of action and your ace out from the start. Now another starter out. Bad luck but this team can't possibly play this bad all year long. I have confidence they will get it turned around. Season is young and we are only a few games out. When you don't get runners on and otherwise hit then every mistake is magnified Let's not make this stretch.

QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 04:16 AM) If Santiago gives just, quality starts in his time in the rotation and Danks seems close when Gavin is getting off the DL, I wonder if the Sox would consider trying to just trade Gavin for scraps or even release him outright. Cause he's been useless for a few years now. A guy who takes the ball as much as he has, and puts up the ERA he has...while not spectacular, it's actually really, really valuable on an MLB roster. -

I can't say I'd rather face Detroit than Minnesota. Columbus would have been the pick here. Don't really want to face Datsyuk and Zetterberg in a series, and Howard's better than Backstrom. Minnesota doesn't have a lot of firepower. I don't know what Minnesota does really well that should be a threat here. Nothing's guaranteed, but I'd rather take my chances with Minnesota. If the Hawks play to potential they beat them, so there's really no excuses here. It's tough - West playoff matchups are really good, there's not a lot of teams I want to face anywhere in there. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 27, 2013 -> 06:26 PM) It's a great slogan for marketing. It can end up having nothing to do with Hawk's stupid rant. Except for the fact that it's from Hawk's stupid rant.

You don't have to make the best out of anything. If Brooks started this than that's pretty dumb on his part. Let's take an old man crazy broadcaster, let him rant and rave and make no sense, and make it a rallying cry. On something that can't be measured, even through the FO disagrees with Hawk too. Adhere to the stupid I guess. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 27, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) I'm sure the Sox are a little perturbed hearing over and over again in the local media about how the great Theo Epstien and his "proprietary information" can do no wrong. They need to franchise that publicly positions themselves against sabremetrics for that reason alone. Now you're just being weird. Why take this stance? Anti-Cubs? It's also a lie, Hahn uses this stuff. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 27, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) Joe Maddon is a great manager because of David Price, Evan Longoria, James Shields, Matt Moore, BJ Upton. He also uses numbers, graphs, charts as much as any coach in the business. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 27, 2013 -> 12:26 PM) I wish they threw to second. The guy on first wasn't running. Rios would have been safe. I also pointed that out as a reason it wasn't called feom the dugout, you said it was stupid. Its funny, you were wrong, yet still won't even admit it. A guy can steal 3rd without a guy attempting to steal 2nd. Even if Rios was stealing 3rd from the dugout, it doesn't mean Konerko would have been running. We've covered this multiple times. You using "Paul wasn't running" isn't evidence it wasn't from the dugout. Until we heard who it was, the assumption is it was called. Paul not going doesn't do anything to counter that. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 27, 2013 -> 12:29 PM) I think Maddon is an excellent game manager. OTOH, I'm not a believer in Ventura's in-game managerial skills. That said, I think the Sox have overachieved so far this year and last under his guidance. That's funny, because he uses numbers to make most of his decisions. He's not a gut manager.
